US: John Boehner elected Speaker in House of Representative
The 112th Congress of the United States was called and John Boehner was elected as Speaker in the House of Representatives.
In his first address as the House’s top member, Boehner focused on cutting the government’s record deficit and creating jobs. He replaced Nancy Pelosi, a Democrat whose party lost to the Republicans last year in the mid-term elections. Our spending has caught up with us, and our debt will soon eclipse the size of our entire economy. Hard work and tough decisions will be required, said Boehner. Before Boehner spoke, Pelosi addressed the lawmakers and introduced Boehner. In the House of Representatives, 87 new Republican members and nine new Democrats were sworn in at noon, shifting control of the chamber officially to the Republican party. Republicans now hold a 242-193 edge in the House.

Two lawmakers say violence has become so rampant in Chicago that the National Guard must be called in to help.
State Democratic Reps. John Fritchey and LaShawn Ford made a public plea to Gov. Pat Quinn on Sunday to deploy troops.
The request comes amid a recent surge in violent crime, including a night last week that saw seven people killed and 18 wounded, mostly by gunfire.
Fritchey says Chicago has had 113 homicide victims this year. He says the police department has done a commendable job, but its resources are stretched thin.
Chicago Police Supt. Jody Weis says he appreciates the lawmakers’ frustration and willingness to help, but doubts the National Guard is the best answer.
A message left for Quinn wasn’t returned

The Fourth Kind True Story:The Fourth Kind is a true story, at least according to ads and trailers. But The Fourth Kind true story claims have to be taken with a grain of salt. The Fourth Kind true story hook is one that has been used by countless horror movies lately. The Fourth Kind’s true story is one about aliens, not serial horror killers. Though the movie tries to make it look like The Fourth Kind’s story about sleep-deprived people facing alien abduction is true, most may not buy it.
The Fourth Kind’s premise is that in Nome, Alaska, sleep-deprived patients who went under hypnosis were vulnerable to alien abduction. In fact, the movie presents audio and video tape of such sessions as archival footage, and is framed to look like an adaptation of a true story. Of course, if The Fourth Kind was a true story, then it would be real proof that aliens do exist, and have made contact of the fourth kind to abduct us.
Of course, whenever a movie claims to be about a true story, inevitably it isn’t. Hollywood can’t even make bio-pics of real true stories without distorting the facts and people in some way. And horror movies like The Blair Witch Project, The Amityville Horror and The Haunting in Connecticut have tried to pass off as true stories too.
But the debate of The Fourth Kind ‘true story’ is coming under some rather bad timing for the movie. For the last month, horror fans have been worshiping Paranormal Activity, the ultra low-budget hit that nevertheless looked very real to audiences. The home-movie format made the story of spirits haunting a young couple look all too real – or at least more real than what The Fourth Kind looks like.

Stupak Amendment,Stupak: Where are we on the abortion standoff?
Stupak Amendment,Stupak:Where are we on the abortion standoff? Still fighting, from all reports. Politico reports that leadership has twisted arms in the vast majority of the caucus which is pro-choice, and Stupak won’t be the poison pill.Asked whether her allies in the pro-choice movement would support the bill with the language offered yesterday by Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.), Speaker Nancy Pelosi offered a one-word answer: “Yes.”
“I don’t believe any of us believe we can hold up what we’ve been fighting for … and that’s health care,” said Rep. Louise Slaughter (D-N.Y.).
But the lawmakers said they would work hard to whip the Stupak amendment in hopes of keeping it out of the final bill, and several said they weren’t ready to declare how they would vote if Stupak’s language made it in.
“We’re nor conceding that,” Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.) said. “We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it.”
Rep. Diana DeGette (D-Colo.) said “pro-choice members are not happy this morning..
