RAWALPINDI: An impressive ceremony the 28th Undergraduate Convocation of the Army Medical College (AMC), Rawalpindi was held today.

According to an Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) press release, Lieutenant General (Retired) Muhammad Asghar, Rector NUST, Islamabad was chief guest on the occasion who awarded degrees to 174 graduates of 29th MBBS and 8th BDS Courses.

It is worth mentioning here that Army Medical College is an elite medical institute of the country comprising highly qualified teaching faculty.

It was established in 1977 and was affiliated with Quaid-I-Azam University.Army Medical College was recognized by General Medical Council, UK in 1982.Fellowship program commended in 1996. RAWALPINDI: Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, General Khalid Shameem Wynne, during his official visit to UAE, called on Lieutenant General Hamad Mohammed Thani Al Rumaithi Chief of Staff of UAE Armed Forces on Tuesday.

3rd round of Pak-US strategic dialogue from today

The eagerly awaiting third round of Pak-America strategic dialogue would start from today (Wednesday) in Washington. Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani left Tuesday for United States of America to attend the dialogue.
According to diplomatic sources the third round of Pak-US strategic dialogues is going to be started from October 20 and continue till Oct 22 in which issues related to power, agriculture, education and security would be discussed. Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi would lead the Pakistani delegation while US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton would lead US delegation.
Strategic Dialogue working group leaders from both governments will report out on the tangible outcomes of their work. Besides Army Chief and FM Qureshi, Finance Minister Abdul Hafeez Sheikh and other senior officials will be among the delegation.
During the Ministerial-level bilateral Strategic Dialogue that was launched in Washington on March 24-25, 2010 has thirteen separate working groups that have met in Islamabad over the past three months: agriculture; communications and public diplomacy; defense; economics and finance; education; energy; health; law enforcement and counter-terrorism; market access; science and technology; security, strategic stability and nonproliferation; water; and women empowerment Pakistan would try to convince US to make progress in investment in the power and water sector. Sources also told media that Pakistan would adopt a decisive stance on Indias violation of Indus River Water treaty and would demand US to play its role in this regard. Foreign Office Sources told media that Pakistan will demand from US for establishment of Reconstruction Zones (RoZs) in the Tribal Areas while urge various Members of the Congress for methodical legislation and immediate removal of hurdles in this regard, drone technology and stalled dues under the Coalition Support fund. During their stay, COAS, FM will meet US Defense Secretary Robert Gates, United States Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Mike Mullen besides US National Security Advisors and other high ups to throw light on some of the thorny issues like war against terrorism, security, defence and enhancing cooperation on military and other fields in length.
Earlier, COAS was seen off at Lahore Airport by Lieutenant General Rashad Mehmood, Corps Commander Lahore and other senior military officials.

Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) Gen. Ashfaq Kayani has promoted 8 Major Generals to the rank of Lieutenant General.
Few days ago, Khalid Shamim Wyne was appointed Chairman Chiefs of Staff Committee. Lieutenant General Waheed Arshad has been appointed as the Chief of General Staff while Lt. Gen Hammed Haider was appointed as Commander Army Strategic Force Command.

Lt Gen Nadeem Taj has been appointed Commander 30 Corps Gujranwala, Lt Gen Tahir Mehmood as Commander 10 Corps Rawalpindi and Lt Gen Shahid Iqbal has been appointed as Commander 5 Corps Karachi.Lt Gen Yousuf has been appointed as Commander 31 Corps, Lt Gen Mohsin Kamal as military secretary GHQ, Lt Gen Javed Zia as quarter master-general, Lt Gen Zaki as IG Arms and Lt Gen Ayaz Saleem Rana as chairman Industrial Complex Taxila.

Lt Gen Raza Khan has been appointed as director-general Joint Staff Headquarter and Lt Gen Tanveer Tahir as IG Communication and Information Technology.

CIA chief due to hold talks with Pakistan leadership

ISLAMABAD: CIA chief Leon Panetta is due to hold talks with Pakistani leaders following a report that Western intelligence uncovered a major European terror plot hatched in Pakistan, an official said Wednesday.

“Panetta will call on President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, army chief General Ashfaq Kayani and ISI chief Lieutenant General Ahmad Shuja Pasha,” according to sources.

Talks will focus on “bilateral counter-terrorism cooperation, the Afghan situation and other regional issues,” the official said.

There was no comment from the US embassy.

The spy chief’s visit comes as a covert American drone war steps up missile strikes on Al-Qaeda-linked commanders in North Waziristan.

President NDU makes farewell call on CJCSC Gen.Tariq Majid

RAWALPINDI: President National Defence University (NDU), Lieutenant General Muhammad Yousaf made a farewell call on General Tariq Majid, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) at Joint Staff Headquarters, on the day of his retirement.

Kirkuk police chief wounded in Iraq car bomb

KIRKUK: A car bomb in Iraq”s ethnically divided northern oil hub of Kirkuk seriously wounded its police chief and killed his son on Friday, a police officer said.

The blast, which struck at around 1:45 pm (1045 GMT) in the city, 240 kilometers (150 miles) north of Baghdad, also wounded another policeman and eight passersby.

“Kirkuk police chief Borhan Habib Tayeb was seriously wounded and his son, Lieutenant Wissam Borhan Habib, was killed by a car bomb targeting their convoy in the south of the city,” police Colonel Ghazi Mohammed Saleh said.
