Ajay Devgn to star in Neeraj Pandey’s Special Chabbis

Neeraj Pandey, who shot into the limelight with his critically acclaimed film A Wednesday, is now ready to shoot his next outing. His next directorial venture titled Special Chabbis, is a film based on a real life incident where twenty six men, posing as Income Tax officials, carried out a mock raid on a leading jewellery store in Mumbai and seized jewellery worth millions, never to return.

Bollywood Hungama has learnt from a source close to the actor that, “Yes Ajay did hear the script for the film and has also agreed to do it, though at this point no more details are available of the film.”

Special Chabbis will have Ajay playing the main lead and will also have an ensemble cast. The film is scheduled to go on floors early next year.

Venice filmfest opens with Tarantino, Portman on red carpet

VENICE: Natalie Portman and jury head Quentin Tarantino shared the red carpet Wednesday as the prestigious Venice film festival kicked off with the screening of Darren Aronofsky’s “Black Swan”.

Fans screamed for autographs as a minor galaxy of Italian television starlets jockeyed for the limelight on the way into the Palazzo del Cinema on the Lido for the opener of the 67th edition of the Mostra.

Italian President Giorgio Napolitano was in attendance, but entered the venue separately. Once inside, he received a standing ovation from the assembled glitteratti.

Ballet dancer, actress and goodwill ambassador Carla Fracci, 74, was also on hand to view the psychological thriller, one of the first US films to open the Mostra in years.

David Dhawan shelves Amar Akbar Anthony, starts work on Partner 2

Salman Khan’s ambitious plans to bring all the three Khan brothers together in a modernized remake of Manmohan Desai’s Amar Akbar Anthony has fallen through.

While most other problems of remaking such a popular film could be surmounted, the one hurdle that no one could find a way out of was to make Salman step into the Big B’s shoes without looking presumptuous.

The Khans and David Dhawan had planned to cast Arbaaz, Sohail and Salman as Amar (played originally by Vinod Khanna), Akbar (played by Rishi Kapoor in Desai’s film) and Anthony (played by the Big B). While re-casting the first two actors was a breeze, getting Salman to do the Big B’s role proved impossible.

Apparently, Salman himself begged off from the huge responsibility.

Admitting that the remake of Amar Akbar Anthony is now a dead project, David says, “It was just impossible to do it again. Can you imagine anyone else except Mr. Bachchan as Anthony Gonsalves? It’s role he has made his own for as long as time exists.”

With Amar Akbar Anthony shelved, the sequel to the 2007 blockbuster Partner is now being revived by the Khans in right earnestness.

A story idea has finally been cracked and Partner 2 is to go on the floors early next year in lieu of Amar Akbar Anthony.

Dhawan admits Partner 2 is on the way, “We’ve got an idea and we’re developing it. While the core cast of Salman and Govinda will remain all the other actors will change.”
