The U.K.’s Duchess of York was caught on camera in a News of the World sting revealed Sunday, apparently offering to sell access to her former husband, Prince Andrew.
Sarah Ferguson, 50, allegedly asked an undercover reporter posing as a wealthy businessman for a $40,000 cash down payment in return for an introduction to the Prince, as well as a $724,000 fee wired directly into her bank account.
Ferguson also insisted on a one percent commission from any deals the businessman worked out as a result of her royal connections.
The duchess claimed to have discussed the terms with her former husband, saying, “Andrew said to me, ‘tell him £500,000.’”
According to a Sunday newspaper report, Sarah Ferguson promised to introduce an undercover reporter posing as a wealthy businessman to the Prince, who has been the UK’s special representative for international trade and investment since 2001.

The paper claims she was filmed on Tuesday night accepting a 40,000 dollar cash down-payment and it quotes her as saying: “I can open any door you want.”
She was filmed telling him how to transfer £500,000 to her UK bank account and said: ‘Then that, is then like, then you open up all the channels whatever you need, whatever you want, and then that’s what and then you meet Andrew and that’s fine. And that’s, that’s when you really open up whatever you want.’
The paper said that, despite the Prince knowing nothing about the deal, the Duchess claimed to have discussed it with him: ‘Andrew said to me, “Tell him £500,000″.
‘He knows that he’s had to underwrite me up to now because I’ve got no money. So if you want to meet him in your business, look after me and he’ll look after you … you’ll get it back tenfold.’

But then the Duchess insisted he ‘is completely whiter than white’ as she explained how the Prince meets the ‘the most amazing people’ in his role as special representative.
In a taped interview, recorded in a Mayfair apartment last Tuesday and placed on the paper’s website today, Ferguson is seen telling the man she supposed was a foreign businessman that she could obtain him access to the prince, who acts as a quasi-official British trade envoy, promoting deals and agreements for UK companies around the world.
Demanding a payment of £500,000 to be wired to her HSBC account, she told the reporter: “That opens up everything you would ever wish for and I can open any door you want and I will for you. Look after me and he’ll look after you …
You’ll get it back tenfold.”
Ferguson is not the first member of the royal family to fall foul of the fake sheikh. Sophie, Countess of Wessex, wife of the Queen’s third son, Prince Edward, was caught in 2001 tapping him up, using her royal connections, as a potential client for the public relations company which she then ran.

The Unthinkable is a much anticipated upcoming movie that has caused a lot of hype because of the trailer. The movie is set to be released in June and its trailers are all over the internet and TV. There is no official summary or prologue of the movie available yet except for the hints in the trailer. The trailer is thrilling enough to make all the movie lovers in the world go crazy. The thing that makes the movie even greater is the fact that one of the main characters of the movie is played by Samuel L Jackson.
This is definitely great news for those who have seen Samuel act. But to be honest I was expecting that Samuel would do a somewhat different role in this movie instead of the usual Shaft-like badass that he likes to play in most movies, but alas the role is exactly like that. Still it’s not bad at all because he looks good in roles like those.
The hints about the movie that are observed are that there is a terrorist who has planted three bombs in different cities of the US. The terrorist announces his act and either turns himself in or is apprehended by the FBI. After the arrest Samuel who plays the role of the badass FBI agent tries his best to use his intimidating personality and torture to obtain the locations of the bomb. Carry Ann Moss plays the role of a woman who constantly tries to protect the rights of the terrorist.

Gmail is down now;
you are not alone because Gmail is actually down for 20-30 minutes (4 PM EST) now and people are receiving “502 Server Error” message. This downtime is also being faced by Google Apps Mail service users.
Gmail was also having some turbulence issue earlier today as well; thus, this downtime probably could be a reason of that issue.
Google has updated its official Gmail blog with a post regarding this downtime:
We know many of you are having trouble accessing Gmail right now — we are too, and we definitely feel your pain. We don’t usually post about minor issues here (the Apps status dashboard and the Gmail Help Center are usually where this kind of information goes). Because this is impacting so many of you,
we wanted to let you know we’re currently looking into the issue and hope to have more info to share here shortly. If you have IMAP or POP set up already, you should be able to access your mail that way in the meantime,
There have been numerous blogs that say that Gmail is down since morning and there is still no sign of recovery. After reading the blogs I did what most people would do. I went straight to the Gmail page and tried to login. I logged in fine and there was no sign of a server down. But apparently there was problem with Gmail at many other locations like some parts of America and some Asian countries as well.
To confirm the problem I went to chat with some of my “international” friends, and yes they were indeed experiencing problems logging in to Gmail. This is a great dilemma for people who use Gmail as their primary email account. Also given the fact that Gmail provides features that no other online email service provider gives, it was a big problem for many people around the world. Even now a lot of users are having trouble using Gmail.

The fourth track on Chely Wright’s exceptional new album, Lifted off the Ground, is a wry elegy titled “Notes To The Coroner,” sung from the perspective of a woman who’s recently expired. It begins with a half-assed apology to those she’s left behind: “I hope I haven’t been lyin’ here long,” she sings, “I’d say ‘I told you so’ but I’m long gone.” Wright, in her cool, matter-of-fact manner, describes her untimely–though not unexpected–demise. The self-prescribed cause of death: a broken heart born out of a toxic love affair.
On Lifted, Wright goes public with her own private hell. During much of a five-year hiatus from the music business, Wright–”a big ball of pain and pajamas” as she puts it on
“Notes”–holed up inside her New York City apartment as she dealt with a long-term depression. Urged on by friend and mentor Rodney Crowell, she turned her personal tumult into a candid song cycle that shows just how she’s blossomed into a first-rate singer-songwriter.
Such artistic growth comes as a welcome surprise. A pretty brunette with a big voice, Wright seemed to be the conventional country music babe upon her debut. Even People Magazine took notice, naming her to its 50 Most Beautiful People list. But as Wright hovered around the Faith-Shania axis in the late 90s, she carried a different tune than her pretty peers, trending towards more quirky fare that paid little heed to Nashville formulas. Of course, she remained a mere blip on country radio’s radar, despite scoring a #1 hit with 1999’s “Single White Female.”
After a series of fits and starts, Wright parted ways with her label and went indie. On 2005’s The Metropolitan Hotel, she explored a more organic style married to her pensive stories of loss and longing. Liftedfinds her fully invested in this new vision, with arrangements that beautifully combine folk, pop and country. It covers the same musical and emotional terrain as fellow Music Row rejects Mary Chapin Carpenter and Rosanne Cash. Wright’s confessional, cut-to-the-bone songs are the work of a misguided soul; she zeroes in on their stark essence with a humid alto that’s both smart and sexy.
On the album’s opening cut, “Broken,” Wright begs to an untrusting lover: “Why can’t you just believe in me?” These matters of faith are the focus of Lfited, from the dreamy, psychedelic “Snow Globe” to the hushed, intimate closer “Shadows of Doubt.” Wright never minces words or wastes melodies. Take “Damn Liar,” a primal, lite-metal ballad that smolders with white-hot anger. Not one to shy away from pain or profanity, she issues a crude rebuke to her beloved: “Fuckin’ liar, that’s what you are.” The Alanis-like “Object Of Your Rejection” is a similarly cynical take on romance, aimed at a nasty ex who “can get away with treating people like shit.”
Obscenities aside, the language on Lifted is swift and sure and sounds like a desperate cry for freedom. On “That Train,” a smooth, wistful tune that chugs along to a chicka-boom rhythm, she yearns for a one-way trip down a lonesome track.

Nashville continues to experience road closures and is currently under a flash flood watch in the wake of severe weather yesterday that resulted in 5 deaths. The storm system that moved through the Nashville area yesterday produced 6 – 12 inches of rain in less than 12 hours. The storm is expected to move out of the area by afternoon, but the dangers from flooding are expected to continue and residents are being urged to use caution, stay home, and avoid travel.
“This is one of the most severe rain events Nashville has ever experienced.” said Nashville Mayor Karl Dean.
TDot road conditions report that I-24 and I-40 are closed due to flooding and incidents. Residents who wish to get up to the minute status reports on local conditions can visit the tdot website at http://www.tdot.state.tn.us/tdotsmartway/ or follow tdot on Twitter at http://twitter.com/TN511
A National Weather Service Civil Emergency Message broadcast Sunday morning warns residents of hazardous travel conditions and numerous road closures.
This storm system is responsible for turning local roads in to rivers, sweeping away vehicles and buildings. In one notable incident, a School building was lifted by flood waters and washed away only to become lodged and broken in to pieces.
Shelters for residents affected by the storm are being set up at Lipscomb University and other locations.

Flooding in Mexico: 3 killed, Thousands Flee

Flooding in Mexico: 3 killed, Thousands Flee, Flooding caused by heavy rains along Mexico’s southern Gulf Coast has drenched Tabasco state, killing three people and forcing more than 44,000 people from their homes.
Tabasco Governor Andres Granier said homes in 91 communities have been flooded. The federal government declared a state of emergency in the communities of Cardenas and Huimanguillo and troops were helping to rescue people trapped in their homes. Water in some streets in these communities reached one and a half metres. Residents tried to rescue what they could from their homes, others lost everything. In the affected communities of Cardenas and Huimanguillo, 2,200 bundles of basic food products were distributed as well as 1,000 mattresses. Some 34 temporary shelters in these communities were also set up in the region of La Chontalpa, where more than 10,000 people are staying in refuges. The figure could increase in the next few days.
Local authorities said the heavy rains had damaged health centres, schools, churches, homes and could’ve affected 80,000 hectares of harvesting lands. Conagua, the national water commission, said river levels in the state were stable, only Samaria River was 56 cms (22inches) above its critical scale. Civil Protection authorities said sandbag and clay barriers were being placed around the state capital Villahermosa. Heavy rains have also affected Chiapas and the neighbouring state of Veracruz. Residents have expressed their frustration that government infrastructure projects have not prevented annual flooding in Tabasco. Mexico faced huge floods in 2007 when weeks of heavy rain put the banana-growing state of Tabasco under water in a disaster that cost insurers $700 million, according to an industry group and left some 800,000 people homeless.

United Nations to Pull Non-essential Foreign Staff from Afghan

United Nations to Pull Non-essential Foreign Staff from Afghan, The United Nations said on Thursday it would start evacuating hundreds of its international staff from Afghanistan after an attack by Taliban militants last month killed five foreign staff.
UN spokesman Aleem Siddique said the United Nations would relocate about 600 of its roughly 1,100 international staff in total, with some being moved to safer sites within Afghanistan while the rest would be withdrawn from the country. “We will be looking as a temporary measure to relocate some staff within the country and some staff outside of the country, while we can secure accommodation, where proper security measures can be provided for staff, as a temporary measure. We estimate that somewhere in the region of about 12 percent of our staff would be affected across Afghanistan. Now some of those staff may be relocated in other locations here within Kabul,” Siddique said. The spokesman also said that does not mean their activities in Afghanistan will stop. “Absolutely not. We remain committed to insuring that all of our programmes and our activities continue. But obviously following the events of last week we really do need to have a look at how we can ensure that our staff can continue those programmes and activities, but at the same time we can protect their safety,” he added.

US Navy Birthday
Happy US Navy’s Birthday to one and all. October 13th is official celebration of the US Navy’s Birthday, which should not be confused with the Navy Day on October 27th, nor the anniversary of the founding of the US Navy on March 27th. Then again there is a “Navy Day in DC” which is celebrated on October 11th. Please don’t ask me why.
It is OK to be confused. The Gray Stack line is like that. See our previous post from last March, which explains it all more or less.
Happy Anniversary of the Founding of the US Navy, not to be Confused with the Navy’s Birthday or Navy Day
If the dates aren’t confusing enough, there are at least four locations which claim to the “birthplace of the US Navy.” These include Philadelphia, PA; Machias, Maine; Newport, Rhode Island; and Whitehall, New York.
There is also no consensus regarding who is the father of the US Navy. The Naval Historical Center suggests that the Continental Congress of 1775 deserves credit as well as “General Washington, John Barry, John Paul Jones, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, and others.” Clearly success has many fathers, several birthplaces and more than a few birthdays.
