Colombo: Sri Lanka is taking steps to acquire LTTE’s assets in various countries and will utilise them for carrying out developmental activities in the country, Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake has said.
He told Parliament yesterday that intelligence authorities were now gathering information about LTTE assets in various countries.
“Intelligence sources are gathering information on the assets of LTTE. Steps are being taken to bring those assets to Sri Lanka,” he said in reply to a query by Chief Opposition Whip Joseph Michael Perera.
Detained LTTE leader Kumaran Pathmanathan has revealed details about LTTE’s bank accounts and other details about the organisation, the Prime Minister said.
“As these assets belong to the people of the country, they need to be used for the development of the nation,” he said.
Wickremanayake said investigations have begun on the gold that was recovered from the LTTE.
“We have extracted valuable intelligence in this regard. The revelation of such information will hinder ongoing investigations,” the Prime Minister told the House.
