Lindsay Lohan heads to Miami for some work

TrendPK.com: Lindsay Lohan is apparently taking her life and career a bit more serious as she is off to Miami to get some work done.

The young star will reportedly be doing a fashion shoot there that will go with an interview for ‘Plum Miami’ magazine, states RadarOnline.com.

Cable’s Plum TV will also reportedly be broadcasting the shoot and interview.

Both the magazine and the show will come out on June 15th as that is the day before Lohan will have to surrender to authorities.

Oprah aims for "Mindful TV"

LOS ANGELES: She is already the most influential woman on television, publishes a magazine, has starred in movies, opened a school in South Africa and is one of America”s biggest celebrity philanthropists.

So why is Oprah Winfrey taking perhaps the biggest gamble in her life and launching a cable TV network this weekend? Because she believes people are hungry for shows that entertain, inspire and offer what she calls “mindful television.”

“What I want to do is build a channel that is a respite for your mind, an oasis of stimulation that you come away from with little pieces of light.

“I”m aiming for a moment where somebody could say, ”I never thought of it that way before.” I just love that,” Winfrey 56, told Parade magazine in an interview this week.

Three years in the making, the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) kicks off on January 1 with a weekend of “sneak peeks” into the array of largely female-oriented original series, lifestyle, and advice shows that viewers can expect in the first year.

OWN, a venture between Winfrey”s Harpo Inc and Discovery Communications, will be available in some 80 million homes.

The OWN launch has brought with it some uncharacteristic anxiety for Winfrey, who will end her popular U.S. daytime chat program, “The Oprah Winfrey Show” — which airs in some 140 countries — in May after 25 years.

She told her magazine “O” that she has “never felt such fear in all my life” than she has in launching OWN in a crowded TV market packed with hundreds of cable channels.

Magazine Inspired Terror Suspects in UK

LONDON: Nine terror suspects arrested in England found inspiration and bomb-making tips in an online English-language magazine.

The magazine is published by al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula. In contrast to most terrorist Web sites, which are published in heavily theological Arabic, the magazine Inspire is published in easily accessible English.

A first issue in July included the article “Making a bomb in the kitchen of your mom,” was followed by a second issue in October.

British police said this week that between Oct. 1 and Dec. 20, the day the suspects were arrested in raids, the nine men had researched and discussed carrying out reconnaissance on potential targets. The U.S. State Department said the U.S. Embassy in London was among the targets.

Facebook founder Time’s Person of the Year

NEW YORK: Facebook founder and chief executive Mark Zuckerberg was named Time’s “Person of the Year” for 2010 on Wednesday, joining the ranks of winners that include heads of state and rock stars as the person the magazine believes most influenced events of the past year.

Time’s “Person of the Year” is the person or thing that has most influenced the culture and the news during the past year for good or for ill.

In naming Zuckerberg, Time cited him “for changing how we all live our lives”.

In a posting on his Facebook page, Zuckerberg said that being named Time’s “Person of the Year” was “a real honor and recognition of how our little team is building something that hundreds of millions of people want to use to make the world more open and connected”.

“I’m happy to be a part of that,” the posting added.

Mel Gibson’s ex-lover says she feared for her life

NEW YORK: Mel Gibson’s ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva has claimed that the Hollywood actor and director was abusive toward her and she feared for her life.

“I thought he would kill me,” the Russian born model and singer told People magazine about one argument during which she said Gibson hit her while she was holding their baby daughter.

They are engaged in a bitter custody battle over their child.

Gibson declined to be interviewed for the story, the magazine said, but has disputed her account.

Grigorieva, 40, admits she made audiotapes of phone calls from Gibson in which he appears to threaten his former lover but she denies leaking them to the media.

She said Gibson often flew into jealous rages, talked about suicide and once brandished a gun in front of her. But now she said, “I’m not angry at him.”

McChrystal says resigned for sake of Afghan mission

WASHINGTON: US General Stanley McChrystal said Wednesday he resigned as commander of NATO-led forces in Afghanistan out of a commitment to troops and “to see the mission succeed.”

“This morning the president accepted my resignation as commander of US and NATO coalition Forces in Afghanistan,” McChrystal said in a statement issued shortly after President Barack Obama announced he was replacing the general.

“I strongly support the president”s strategy in Afghanistan and am deeply committed to our coalition forces, our partner nations, and the Afghan people,” he said.

“It was out of respect for this commitment — and a desire to see the mission succeed — that I tendered my resignation.”

The four-star general made no mention of the magazine article that created an uproar this week, in which he and his aides derided top administration officials and spoke dismissively of Obama.

McChrystal had been named as commander in Afghanistan only a year ago.
