(NECN) – A tornado watch was put into effect by the National Weather Service on Saturday, effective until 10 p.m. for northern Connecticut and Massachusetts, southern New Hampshire, part of Maine and central Rhode Island.
A watch means storms are capable of producing tornadoes.
The National Weather Service in Gray, Maine updated its watch into a tornado warning for Central Androscoggin County in southwest Maine and Eastern Oxford County in western Maine until 6:15 p.m. At 5:51 p.m., the National Weather Service doppler radar indicated a thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado near Lisbon or near Lewiston.
The Oxford County Sheriff’s Office reported seeing a funnel cloud with this storm and very large hail. Those living in Paris or southern portions of Buckfield and norther portions of Hebron were directed to take cover. A tornado watch remains in effect until 10 p.m. ”Every person knew exactly where they needed to go,” she said.
On May 7, hundreds of people were evacuated from Courthouse Square in downtown Warren during its Relay for Life after tornado warnings were issued about 9:45 p.m. Walkers returned after midnight, but persistent rain and winds caused organizers to end the event at 4 p.m. May 8 instead of 6 p.m.
Warren also reported exceeding its goal, topping $6 million total since its 1993 inception.

Mermaid Girl Dies
“Mermaid Girl”, Shiloh Pepin, has died. She passed away Friday, October 23rd at the Maine Medical Center. Her health had been failing for the last few weeks. What started out as a cold quickly progressed to pneumonia. She has been listed in critical condition for the last week.
She was suffering from the condition known as sirenomelia, in which both her legs were fused together. She had only one kidney in working condition, no lower colon and no genital organs. She had two kidney transplants one at the age of 4 months and second in 2007. Shiloh Pepin’s mother describes her as “a tough little thing.”
Many patients suffering from such disease are able to survive by surgery to separate their legs but in Shiloh Pepin, the blood vessels crossed from one side to other that resists her surgery. She was suffering from the condition found in one out of every 100,000 live births.
She was one of the inspiring personalities by her media presence, web site and Facebook page for adults, as well as for children. 12-year-old Lydia Dawley wrote to Shiloh on Facebook.
