Ambassadors of Germany and France were called in the Foreign Office and a strong protest was lodged with them over the statements made against Pakistan by German Chancellor Angela Merkel and frence President Sarkozy.

According to Foreign Office spokesperson, Today, the Foreign Office conveyed the Government and the people of Pakistan’s disappointment separately to the Ambassador of France and the German Charge d’ Affaires (CdA) in Islamabad at the reported remarks by President Nicolas Sarkozy and Chancellor Angela Merkel relating to Pakistan following their meeting with the Indian Prime Minister in New Delhi and Berlin, respectively.

It was underlined that Pakistan enjoyed excellent relations with both France and Germany and that bilateral cooperation in all areas had lately been on the increase. Pakistan is, therefore, surprised and disappointed at the reported remarks made by the two leaders, he added.

The German CdA said that the Chancellor’s remarks had been misquoted. He assured that her remarks were not Pakistan specific, the statement added.

In a joint press conference with visiting Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Sunday, the German chancellor while talking about the terrorist attacks against India said Berlin would take up the terror issue with Islamabad. We want to do whatever we can to make it clear to Pakistan that terror cannot be a means to solve the political problems. We will make it clear to Pakistan that terror is unacceptable, said Merkel.

Butt withdraws match-fixing allegations against England

Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Ijaz Butt said Wednesday he was withdrawing comments alleging England players had ‘thrown’ this month’s third one-day international at The Oval.
Butt had claimed England players were paid enormous amounts of money to lose The Oval match in a series the hosts ultimately won 3-2.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) threatened legal action in response unless Butt unreservedly apologised for remarks he said at the time were merely a case of him repeating something he’d heard from bookmakers.
And after a meeting with ECB counterpart Giles Clarke on Wednesday, England got the apology they wanted for what Butt said was a misunderstanding, with the ECB now declaring the matter closed.
Butt, in a joint ECB/PCB statement, said: I wish personally and on behalf of the Pakistan Cricket Board to withdraw the comments I made concerning the England and Wales Cricket Board and each of the England players who played in the one-day international at The Oval on Friday 17 September. It is regrettable that there was a misunderstanding arising from my comments, he added.
I would like to make it quite clear that in the statements which I made that I never intended to question the behaviour and integrity of the England players nor the ECB nor to suggest that any of them were involved in any corrupt practices or in a conspiracy against Pakistan cricket.
In particular, I wish to make it clear that I have never seen any evidence of any wrong doing by any England player or the ECB at any time. I deeply and sincerely regret that my statements have been interpreted to cast doubt upon the good names of the England players and the ECB and hope that this public withdrawal will draw a line under the matter, he added.

Israel warns Lebanon but also seeks calm along border

JERUSALEM: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a public warning to Lebanon on Wednesday, saying it would face a “vigorous” Israeli response in the event of more unrest on their shared border.

But at the same time as Netanyahu”s office published his comments, which put the Lebanese government in the same category as the militant Palestinian Islamist group Hamas, Israeli, UN and Lebanese military officers were working behind the scenes to douse the flames.

“I want to make it clear to Hamas, and also to the government of Lebanon which we see as responsible for the violent provocation against our soldiers; do not test our resolve to defend Israel”s civilians and soldiers,” Netanyahu said.

Israel”s key ally, the United States, backed Israel”s contention that its troops were carrying out routine work on their own side of the frontier on Tuesday when they were subjected to an unprovoked attack by Lebanese soldiers.

“The firing of the Lebanese armed forces was wholly unjustified and unwarranted,” State Department Spokesman Philip Crowley said.

Netanyahu”s comments were made in a Hebrew-language statement distributed to media in writing and on video.

Tuesday”s firefight, the deadliest confrontation on Israel”s northern border in four years, took the lives of an Israeli colonel, two Lebanese soldiers and a Lebanese journalist.

Landlords who consented to the lower rents would not have to pay penalties, as is now the case when a landlord is found to have overcharged a rent-regulated tenant.

But the governor’s proposal would also rewrite the law to make it clear that landlords could, in the future, charge market rates for apartments once they became vacant and hit the $3,000 threshold, even if they received the tax breaks. The proposal would affect only apartments that were rent-stabilized before receiving the tax breaks; some apartments became stabilized as a result of the tax benefits and cannot be deregulated under the governor’s proposal.

John Paul Stevens 001 stevens
WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama has saluted retiring Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens as an “impartial guardian” of the law, and says he’ll move quickly to nominate a successor.

Obama paid tribute to the 89-year-old Stevens shortly after the president returned from Prague where he signed a new nuclear arms limitation treaty with Russia.

Obama said Stevens was a “brilliant” jurist and he hailed his appointment by former President Gerald Ford in the months after the Watergate scandal. The president said Stevens had “worn the judicial robe with honor and humility.” Stevens’ decision to step down from the high court bench gives Obama his second Supreme Court appointment.

haterade apple adobeWe’re not exactly sure where The Flash Blog stands as a mouthpiece of Adobe corporate (official vs. unofficial), but they’ve certainly let their feelings be known without any sugar coating or corporate speak. Lee Brimelow, the author is a Platform Evangelist at Adobe focusing on the Flash, Flex, and AIR developer communities.

What is clear is that Apple has timed this purposely to hurt sales of CS5. This has nothing to do whatsoever with bringing the Flash player to Apple’s devices. That is a separate discussion entirely. What they are saying is that they won’t allow applications onto their marketplace solely because of what language was originally used to create them. This is a frightening move that has no rational defense other than wanting tyrannical control over developers and more importantly, wanting to use developers as pawns in their crusade against Adobe. This does not just affect Adobe but also other technologies like Unity3D. [...] Now let me put aside my role as an official representative of Adobe for a moment as I would look to make it clear what is going through my mind at the moment. Go screw yourself Apple.
