Russian River
Russian River, The Russian River supplies drinking water for some 600,000 people in Sonoma and Marin counties, and it’s also home to the endangered coho salmon and threatened chinook salmon.
David Manning, principal environmental specialist with the Sonoma County Water Agency says biologists are counting higher numbers of returning coho this year.
Manning says the coho numbers continue to be small, but he’s optimistic that by improving river habitat, the coho will slowly rebound as well.
Manning says they’re also reaching out to anglers who fish for steelhead trout in the river with a newly launched program with the tagline “If Mouth has Black, Put it Back” to help fishermen not to mistake salmon for steelhead.
Manning says with only a handful of coho left in the Russian River, every spawning salmon lost to an angler’s mistake takes a big toll on the local population.

1. Take a family walk after the meal (if it’s snowing, get the whole family together to snowshoe in the yard)
2. Create a backyard treasure hunt for the kids where they have to find Thanksgiving-themed items like: mini pumpkins, leaves, turkey, pumpkin pie, pilgrims, etc. These items can be made from construction paper or can be purchased at party stores.
3. Start an annual family turkey trot. Players pair up by linking their elbows. Each team has their own turkey mascot (a football with construction taped turkey face on it, a stuffed animal turkey, a brown bag stuffed with newspaper and decorated like a turkey). The first team to make it to the finish line without dropping the turkey and unlinking their arms wins.
4. Set up a craft table in the back yard where kids can create their own turkey hats, hand turkeys, glue leaves and sticks on paper, turkey napkin holders etc.
5. Before recycling the food containers from your Thanksgiving meals, create an outdoor game bowling where guests roll a pumpkin into plastic soda bottles, tin cans or boxes that can be reused as bowling pins. Source

Shaniya Davis funeral video, More than 2000 people joined Shaniya Davis’ father, Bradley Lockhart, Sunday, at an emotional funeral for the North Carolina 5-year-old, who, police say, was raped, murdered, then thrown in a pile of trash bags and deer carcasses like she was someone’s garbage.
Shaniya Davis’ body was found Nov. 16, nearly a week after she was reported missing.
On Sunday, at the edge of his daughter’s casket, Lockhart said, “Shaniya, Daddy love you honey. And I know you’re gonna’ be waiting for me … I’ll see you when I get there.”
White doves were released during a graveside service.
Lockhart urged the 1,500 crowded into Manna Church and another 500 watching the service from an adjacent building to help the community’s needy, according to press reports.
