Gul Panag molested at Delhi Marathon 2010
Delhi has steadily maintained its image as one that is extremely unsafe for women. In between, thanks to the Common Wealth Games, the spotlight shifted to corruption but with the latest Delhi Marathon 2010, its back to its past stature. The victim this time was none other than the actress who is a sports enthusiast, Gul Panag, who has never missed an opportunity to put her fitness regime to test.
On Sunday, 21st November, when Gul Panag participated in Half Marathon held in Delhi, she was groped by the men standing at the starting point. They took advantage of the crowd to feel her up and the actress was obviously quite taken aback by the whole indecent act.
It was a typical women-in-crowded-places syndrome and Gul being the fighter, instead of letting this event disturb her more than required, went ahead with the marathon and completed the run.
Gul says that she has participated in several other marathons and has never experienced something like this before and blames it on the Delhi culture. She feels that compared to Mumbai, something like this is expected in Delhi which is typical of that city.
The offenders on the other hand took advantage of the melee and got away. Gul too realised the futility of filing a complaint as she really cannot recognise the offenders considering the crowd of people. Though she did feel that no matter what the security, certain decorum is expected from participants.
US swimmer Francis dies in Fujairah event
The swimming fraternity responded with shock and disbelief at the untimely passing away of American swimmer Francis Crippen during the eighth and final round of the 2010 Fina 10km Marathon Swimming World Cup on Saturday.
I cant even imagine how this could have happened to Fran, Crippens teammate Alexander Meyer told Gulf News as he came out of the water following an extensive search for the swimmer. It is far too bizarre to think that such a thing could have happened, blurted Bulgarian veteran Petar Stoychev, a regular at the UAE event.Crippens absence was realized only after all the swimmers had completed the five laps of two kilometers each off the Fujairah International Marine Club (FIMC) just past noon on Saturday.Led by Stoychev, the most instant reaction came from the swimmers themselves when they went back into the water in an attempt to search for the American swimmer. Following a search of more than two hours, police and coast guard divers found Crippen just before the final buoy on the 2km-long course.Going into the final round of this eight-round competition that goes around the globe, South African Chad Ho was at the top of the overall standings with 112 points. Crippen was second with 94 points, while Brazilian Allan do Carmo was third overall with 60.Relieved after his sixth place finish to win the overall crown, Ho in fact mentioned that he had not sighted the American in the water during the later stages of the race. It was then that it came to light that Crippen had never managed to cross the finish line, thus prompting the extensive search.Just after 2 pm, a lifeless Crippen was brought out of the water and rushed to a waiting ambulance to be taken to the Fujairah Hospital even as police tried in vain to stop swimmers and friends from getting too close. Some were seen crying openly while others were hugging and consoling each other.Thomas Lurz, who won the eighth round on Saturday, was dumb-founded. I feel very sad, the German swimmer said.Crippens American teammate and close friend Alexander Meyer who in fact did not participate in yesterdays event due to an abdominal surgery last week was all over the place urging the swimmers to get back into the water to see if Crippen could be found.This is not happening man, Meyer said with tears in his eyes.After Crippen was found Meyer went running towards the ambulance to have a look at his friend, only to be stopped in his tracks by police and officials. The American quietly walked back and sat by the roadside with his head in his hands nodding in disbelief.Ayman Saad, Organising Director from the UAE Swimming Association confirmed the sad news later in the evening. At the moment we are trying to complete the formalities with the police and medical staff to repatriate the body back to the United States, Saad said.This is a sad moment and we do not want to go into the details till the medical report is put forward, the official added.Meanwhile, all other activities related to the event were called off as a mark of respect to the departed swimmer.The organizers also announced that they would be holding a press conference later last night to explain the unfortunate incident to the media and participants.

“We’re trying to pioneer a new path to move America forward in obtaining cleaner energy, a healthier environment and putting people to work to harness the inexhaustible winds that we’re blessed with off the Cape,” he said.t has been anything but easy. Cape Wind has spent more than $45 million — most of it from Gordon’s own pockets — since 2001, when the project first sought a permit.

Bungie has signed an exclusive deal with Activision that will now result in the house that Pitfall built exclusively distributing Bungie’s next big franchise for the next ten years. Of course Microsoft still owns Halo, so we won’t be seeing this with the Activision brand on it or the franchise appearing anywhere else.
Based on the information so far, the deal covers a completely new intellectual property that Bungie must create. No word yet on what will become of the IP following the end of the deal. There’s also no word on whether it could include something in the Marathon Universe.

Bungie has just signed a ten-year exclusive multiplatform deal with Activision.
The pair have announced today that they have entered into an exclusive ten-year partnership to bring Bungie’s ‘next big action game universe’ to market.
Under the terms of the agreement, Activision will have exclusive, worldwide rights to publish and distribute all future Bungie games based on the new intellectual property on multiple platforms and devices.
Bungie remains an independent company and will continue to own their intellectual property. Additional terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
The alliance provides Bungie its first such partnership since splitting with Microsoft in 2007.
Activision claims the deal ’significantly broadening its global reach by providing the resources and support to develop, distribute and release games worldwide on multiple platforms and devices’.
To date, Bungie’s Halo games have generated approximately $1.5 billion in revenues, according to The NPD Group, Charttrack and GfK.
