Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on Tuesday maintained that he would not dissolve the National Assembly nor the military would impose martial law in the country.

He said the mid-term elections have no place in the Constitution; the opponents should inform the government about the mechanism of these polls. He emphatically said the military is sincere with the nation and backs democracy and it would never impose martial law in the country.

Senior analyst Naseem Zehra, while talking to Dunya News, hailed the PMs address to the NA. She said that the PMs remarks made it clear that Nawazs 25-year plan was vague for he did not join the PML merger and as such he did not has any other partys support.

Shahbaz links Kalabagh construction with consensus

LAHORE: Chief Minister of Punjab Shahbaz Sharif said Kalabagh Dam should be constructed but with consensus achieved among the provinces, Geo News reported Tuesday.

He said the misgivings of the provinces on the dam should be removed, so that the hurdles in the way for dam construction be pulled down.

Punjab CM said he would accompany Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) chief Mian Nawaz Sharif in his protest against load shedding.

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Babar Awan Tuesday said that any inconsistency on the issue of Islamabad High Court bill, 2010 will be addressed.

Speaking in Senate, he said, “the government respects the opinion of parliamentarians. We will address any inconsistency regarding Islamabad High Court bill, 2010 would be addressed.”

Babar Awan said difference of opinion is basically a diversity of opinion and political and democratic parties always like to have interaction with each and every segment of society before taking any kind of step.

He said the government did not perform anything conflicting to the 18th amendment bill.

He said when former President Pervez Musharraf through an ordinance constituted the Islamabad High Court and Islamabad was not given representation, nobody dared to express any concern at that time.

He said, “We have abolished this mechanism and formed the Judicial Commission for appointment of judges.”

He said that the lawyer community of Islamabad were demanding to give more representation to the people of Islamabad in appointment of judges in Islamabad High Court.

He said the passage of the 18th Amendment is a big achievement and now it is the responsibility of the Parliament to implement its clauses in letter and spirit otherwise the people would show their strong negative reaction.

Leader of House Syed Nayyer Hussain Bokhari also said that the people of Islamabad should be given representation in Islamabad High Court as they were ignored in past.

Earlier, Head of Parliamentary Committee on Constitutional Reforms (PCCR) Mian Raza Rabbani Tuesday said PCCR would welcome the advice of lawyers” community over the mechanism of appointment of superior court judges.

Speaking in Senate, he said, “I was misquoted in a section of press.

I did not invite lawyers” advice on 18th amendment bill because it is the property of the Parliament and only Parliament is authority to make amendments in it.”

He said that he only talked about lawyers” advice on the reservations about appointment of judges through the Judicial Commission.

Rabbani said that although the National Assembly has passed a bill that provides constitution of Islamabad High Court but there are reservations of PCCR members on it.

“I have talked to Minister for Law and Justice Babar Awan and we will sit together to address the reservations of PCCR members,” he told the House.

PML-N leader Ishaq Dar said that the government should not take any decision in haste regarding formation of judicial commission.

He said that the census of the House should be honoured and the reservations of parliamentarians and stakeholders should be addressed.

Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary administered him the oath in a ceremony held at the SC. Judges of the SC, acting attorney general, secretary election commission and other law officials attended the oath taking ceremony.
Justice Sardar Raza Khan will serve as acting chief election commissioner till November 26 in absence of Justice (R) Hamid Ali Mirza, the sitting chief election commissioner.

The sources of Foreign Office in Islamabad have confirmed former foreign secretary Riaz Mohammed Khan has been engaged in dialogue with Indian representatives in Hong Kong.

The president had given responsibility of restoration of the track II dialogue to Riaz Mohammed Khan.
According to the sources, in the first phase the sides were focusing on restoration of the composite dialogue and back channel diplomacy to create a consensus over the mechanism.

In second phase Kashmiri leaders would also taken into the fold of the dialogue and a Hurriyat delegation led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooque will visit Pakistan after Eid ul Azha.

“We will be visiting Pakistan immediately after Eid ul Azha. We want the separatist leadership other than Hurriyat to join us as well. Pakistan wants to get input from Kashmiri leadership before entering into any sort of composite dialogue with New Delhi.
