Breaking News In his first year as US President, Barack Obama, his family and staff were showered with jewellery, ornaments and rare books worth more than USD 300,000 from Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah.
The King is by far the most generous foreign leader, gifting Obama, his wife and daughters nearly USD 190,000 in luxury gems, a news report here has said. A ruby and diamond jewellery set, given by the king to Michelle Obama, was worth USD 132,000. Among the gifts Obama received from King Abdullah was a marble ornament adorned with miniature gold palm trees and camels, and a Jaeger-LeCoultre brass clock, an Arabian Business report said quoting documents released by the US Federal Register. Obama’s daughters, Sasha and Malia, each received diamond earrings and necklaces worth more than USD 7,000.Top White House aides were also on the receiving end of King Abdullah’s generosity, collecting watches, bracelets, cufflinks and pens valued at between USD 5,000 and USD 9,000. Next in line was Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, whose presents of watches, silk ties, a crystal table and candlesticks were worth just under USD 33,000; or less than 10 per cent of the Saudi haul.Chinese President Hu Jintao gave Obama a framed and matted fine silk embroidery depicting a portrait study of the First Family, valued at USD 20,000, the register said.Ghana’s first lady, Ernestina Naadu Mills, gifted Michelle Obama a Backes and Strauss watch, crafted in 18 carat gold with diamonds and leather.The Queen of England favoured more modest presents for the first family, opting for framed portraits of herself and her husband, worth a mere USD 775.Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas offered the US leader USD 521 in gifts, including the least expensive item listed by the Federal Register: a USD 75 bottle of olive oil.All the presents are handed over to the National Archives as US law bars any government official from receiving a present from a foreign government. Obama and others accepted the gifts because non-acceptance would cause embarrassment to donor and US government, the register said.

During his interaction with the students, Obama responded to a query that extremists have deserted the values of Islam. He insisted to treat all religions with dignity and respect.
President Barack Obama says the partnership between the United States and India has limitless potential to improve the lives of both Americans and Indians. Obama said the United States and India — the world’s two largest democracies — share common values and interests. Obama also says the relationship also has the potential to be an anchor of security, prosperity and progress for Asia and the rest of the world.
Earlier, US President Barack Obama and wife Michelle Obama cheered the students of Holy Name School in Colaba by tapping feet with the students on an Indian dance. After reaching school, Obama lighted a candle and watched several dance performances by the young students of the Holy Name School. The Obama couple interacted with the students personally and cheered them all through their performances.

Bret Michaels held an exclusive interview for the first time since being released from the hospital and talked to People Magazine about his incident the morning he experienced a massive brain hemorrhage.
Bret Michaels said that when he was actually having the brain hemorrhage it felt like he ‘was shot in the back of the head’. That’s when Bret’s girlfriend Kristi Gibson stepped in to rush him off to the hospital.
After it felt like someone shot him in the back of the head during his brain hemorrhage, Bret Michaels said that he also heard something pop. And it was then that he started pacing around his living room before asking his girlfriend Kristi Gibson to take him to the hospital emergency room.
“I knew I was slurring my words, and I was like ‘OK, this isn’t a headache. There’s something really bad happening,’” he said.
Finally, Bret Michaels reflected on the entire incident and had this to say:
“I’m a believer it’s a combination of will and good faith,” Michaels said. “Will — and good medical attention — and faith. It just wasn’t my time yet. I really believe that. If I had stayed on the couch for another hour, that probably would’ve done me in. In a weird way, God intervened: The appendicitis forced me to come home for a couple of days.”

The biggest concern about Icebox success is that he hasn’t raced since the Florida Derby six weeks ago. Nick Zito doesn’t think this will be an issue and feels it will not affect Icebox’s performance. He said, “Ah, we’re over that. If he doesn’t win, we won’t blame the six weeks.” Icebox is posted at the 2nd gate, which may benefit him greatly and help him pass some of the tired speed horses towards the end of the race.

Some organizations are said to be offering $1 million to anyone who can provide proof of the affair. With that kind of money in the mix, any proof that exists is sure to turn up. And if no one comes forward, the Obama affair probably didn’t happen.
Vera Baker worked on Barack Obama’s Senate campaign in Illinois in 2004 as Finance Adviser. She also has a background in political fundraising.
Are the rumors of an affair between Barack Obama and Vera Baker true? There certainly isn’t any proof at this point. But Barack and Michelle Obama, a beautiful, young and powerful couple, do bring to mind John and Jackie Kennedy. Is this a repeat of the secret scandals of the first American Camelot?
Women’s Day at the White House
Update News: President Obama, invoking the marital dictum that a husband will never get in trouble for saying that his wife is smarter, honored International Women’s Day on Monday by, first of all, poking fun at himself.
Many accomplished women, like his wife, Michelle Obama, the president said, have probably looked across the dinner table at their husbands and thought, “I’m smarter than that guy.”
After getting the requisite laughter, Mr. Obama moved on to the main thrust of the event, to commend the accomplishments and challenges facing women.
Mr. and Mrs. Obama held a short ceremony at the White House to honor women, with Mr. Obama promising to keep supporting efforts to empower women in the United States and around the world.
Surrounded by all manner of women for the East Room event (the “American Idol” crooner Katherine McPhee, the actress Kerry Washington, former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright), Mr. Obama took particular note of his secretary of state, Hillary Rodham Clinton, commending her for putting “millions of cracks in America’s glass ceiling.”
Mr. Obama spoke of his own daughters, Sasha and Malia. “I think about the world that they, and all of America’s daughters, will inherit,” he said. “And I think about all of the opportunities that are still beyond reach for too many young women and too many of our brothers and sisters — too many of our sisters and mothers and aunts, all of the glass ceilings that have yet to be shattered.”

Michelle Obama’s Wax Statue Unveiled at Madame Tussauds, US First Lady Michelle Obama was immortalised in wax at Madame Tussauds in New York. The statue of Michelle Obama wears the stunning white gown, designed by Jason Wu, she wore on inauguration night in 2009.
Children from an elementary school in Harlem were among the first to see the statue after it was unveiled. “It’s great. I haven’t seen nothing like it before. It looks like the real person because when you touch it, it looks, it feels like a person,” said student Elizanel Martinez. “They look kinda realistic. It kind of feels like the eyes follow you, and Michelle Obama’s dress is kind of sparkly,” added student Allan Quezada.
Mrs. Obama’s wax figure will stand beside her husband, Barack Obama, in a replica of the White House’s Oval Office. Mrs. Obama is the third First Lady to be honored with a wax figure inside Madame Tussauds. Jacqueline Kennedy and Hillary Clinton also have likenesses inside the museum.

The president assembled two of his predecessors in the Rose Garden today to promote humanitarian aid for Haiti.
The president will travel to Massachusetts tomorrow to help a Democrat win election to the Senate and keep the party’s 60-vote hold on the Senate – and with that, the president’s domestic agenda.
Tonight, the president took the first lady to dinner.
Sunday is Michelle Obama’s 46 birthday.
They went out tonight to Nora, near Dupont Circle. Nora bills itself as the nation’s first certified organic restaurant. There was no word on the first couple’s menu selection. Entrees run about $30.
The president wore a gray suit with a collarless black shirt. The first lady wore a black, long-sleeved dress.
But they were not alone.
The dinner roster included : Marian Robinson, the first lady’s mother, Valerie Jarrett, special adviser to the president and personal friend of the Obamas, Eric and Cheryl Whitaker, friends of the Obamas from Chicago, Eric Holder, attorney general, and his wife Sharon Malone, Marty Nesbitt, another friend from Chicago. Susan Sher, the first lady’s chief of staff., Elizabeth Alexander, who recited a poem at Obama’s inauguration,. Cindy Moelis, head of the White House Fellows program, and Jocelyn Frye, policy director in the first lady’s office.
They partied for nearly four hours. They arrived just after 6:30 pm EST, the first main course was served by 8:43 and desserts by 9:04. Guests started leaving at 9:40.
The first couple left the restaurant at 10:10 to the loud applause of bystanders, with about 50 people gathered at the corner of Florida Avenue and R Street singing “Happy Birthday” as the president and first Lady walked to their car.
Reporters from the attendant pool shouted “How was the party?” and “Was the First Lady surprised?” One woman replied that the first lady was indeed “surprised.”
