SRINAGAR: Indian authorities imposed a curfew in Srinagar and other towns of Kashmir Valley today to foil a march towards the UN Observers Office in Srinagar to remind the World Body that it had failed to implement its resolutions on Kashmir.
In a bid to prevent the march, Indian agencies placed Hurriat leaders, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Syed Ali Gilani, Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Farida Behenji and other Hurriatt leaders under house arrest during a crackdown against APHC activists arrested several leaders and activists including Yasmeen Raja.
A huge contingent of police and paramilitary forces cordoned off the residences of leaders Tuesday night and informed Hurriat leaders that they have been placed under house arrest.

SRINAGAR: Talks sponsored by the Indian government to end the biggest independence uprising in Kashmir in 20 years appeared on the brink of failure on Monday as separatists boycotted a meeting with New Delhi’s lawmakers.
Two separatist leaders told Reuters police had put them under house arrest. They had earlier refused to meet the politicians sent by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who has been criticised for allowing protests in Kashmir to explode with more than 100 killed this summer.
Police declined to confirm the arrests.
“We choose not to meet the delegation (and) instead sent a memorandum,” Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, the region’s chief cleric and chairman of the All Parties Hurriyat (Freedom) Conference, told Reuters only hours before he was placed under house arrest.

Kashmiri leaders turn down Indian delegation’s meeting offer
A woman died while two others got injured in Indian troops firing in the held Kashmir valley on Monday while an all-party delegation led by Indian Home Minister P. Chidambaram arrived in Srinagar on a two-day visit to assess the ground situation in Kashmir Valley.
Some members of the 42-member delegation are likely to call on Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani at his Hyderpora residence here. Though Geelani has officially refused to meet them, he said the delegation members will not be turned away if they decide to call on him at his house as they were guests.
The freedom fighters have given mixed signals to the visit of the delegation. While the moderate faction of Hurriyat Conference headed by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and JKLF led by Mohammad Yasin Malik has said that they will hold joint consultations to decide whether to meet the delegation, the hardline faction led by Geelani has decided to boycott it. The delegation hopes that the leaders of various freedom movement groups will finally come for the talks.
Indefinite Curfew Imposed in Srinagar, FIR Against Mirwaiz
Srinagar: An indefinite curfew has been imposed in Srinagar and a case has been filed against All Parties Hurriyat Conference Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq following Friday’s violence and arson attack on a police barrack in the Kashmir Valley region.
Curfew has also been imposed in Anantnag, Bijbehara, Pulwama, Kakapora, Sopore and Baramulla.
On Saturday, as the valley was celebrating Eid, mobs went on rampage and set fire to a police post outside the Hazratbal shrine.
As security forces tried to control the crowds, a complex that houses the state’s power department and crime branch headquarters, also went up in flames. Protesters targetted everything that symbolised state authority.
“As far as the AFSPA is concerned, we want the repeal of it. Half-hearted steps will not take us anywhere as these are mere gestures. We need a concrete, solution oriented process. The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) is meeting and the government is talking amongst themselves, this is not helping,” said Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.
“It would have been better to make a fair assessment here on the ground and then respond to the entire situation…control the situation first…see that what has been happening for last three months. I wish that both the central and state government turn serious and do something which is required…which matches the entire situation and the crisis,” said Nizamuddin Bhat, a People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader.
On the other hand, Indian occupied Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah blamed the militant for not honouring their promise to have peaceful processions, and said this would be a huge setback to the peace initiative that was to be announced on Monday.
All donated money to be spent on flood affectees: Musharraf
Former president Gen (R) Pervez Musharraf said that Pakistan was facing challenge of extremism and there was need to make people aware about this monster.
Talking in the Telethon Transmission of Dunya News arranged for collecting funds for the rehabilitation of flood affectees, Pervez Musharraf said that all the money donated by the well-to-do would be spent on flood affectees. He said that it was the governments responsibility to work for the betterment of citizens. He said that he will come back and contest elections.
FIR lodged against Mirwaiz Umar Farooq
In Indian occupied Kashmir (IoK), following massive anti-India and pro-liberation demonstrations on the day of Eid at historic Lal Chowk in Srinagar and other parts of the valley, the authorities have imposed curfew in Srinagar, Islamabad, Bijbehara, Pulwama, Kakapora, Sopore and Baramulla and restrictions in all parts of the territory.
On the other hand, an FIR has been lodged by authorities against APHC Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq alleging him of instigating trouble and arson in Lal Chowk. The FIR no. 83/2010 stands registered against Mirwaiz in Shergarhi Police Station, a police official told media men.
Hurriyat leaders, activists arrested in H-Kashmir

SRINAGAR: In occupied Kashmir, APHC Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, along with dozens of Hurriyet leaders and activists were arrested while leading a protest march towards the UN Military Observer Group headquarters, today.
According to Kashmir media service, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi, Nayeem Ahmad Khan and other leaders and activists were taken into custody near Tourist Centre Complex while proceeding towards the UNMOG in Sonawar area to denounce continued gross human rights violations by Indian troops in the occupied territory.
3 Kashmiris killed, Mirwaiz, Gilani put under house arrest

SRINAGAR: Protests were held on Friday in held Kashmir against the verdict by an Indian court awarding death sentence to three persons including two Kashmiris in a false case against them.
While on the other hand three innocent Kashmir youth were killed in another act of terrorism by Indian army.
People took to the streets in Nigeen, Nawhatta, Rajouri Kadal, Lal Chowk, Natipora, Batamaloo, Hyderpora, Sopore, Baramulla, Sadrekoot, Bandipore, Islamabad and other areas of the occupied territory.
Clashes between the protesters and the Indian police personnel were witnessed at various places and several persons were injured when the police subjected them to violence. People raised anti-India and pro-liberation slogans.
The authorities arrested veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani and lodged him in Humhama police station. He had to lead a march towards United Nations Observers’ Office, which the authorities intercepted in Lal Chowk.
The APHC Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who had to lead a demonstration in Islamabad town was placed under house arrest. Talking to media, the APHC Chairman deplored that India was not allowing the Kashmiris to adopt democratic and peaceful means to secure their right to self-determination. Mirwaiz Umar Farooq could not offer Juma prayers for the second consecutive Friday, today, due to restrictions imposed by the authorities.
Over fifty Hurriyet leaders and activists including Mukhtar Ahmed Waza and Ghulam Nabi Zaki were taken into custody while other Hurriyet leaders, Nisar Hussain Rather and Muhammad Shafi Lone were subjected to torture by the Indian police personnel.
Senior APHC leader, Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi addressing a public gathering in Budgam denounced the puppet regime for its undemocratic and dictatorial policies.
The Grand Mufti of occupied Kashmir, Mufti Bashir-ud-din, in a statement in Srinagar said that settlement of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the Kashmiris’ aspirations was a must for peace in South Asia.
On the other hand, Indian troops, in their fresh act of state terrorism, martyred three innocent Kashmiri youth at Machil in Kupwara, today.
In Brussels, the Chairman of Kashmir Centre Brussels, Barrister Abdul Majeed Tramboo in a statement welcomed the announcement of Pakistan and India to resume the dialogue process at Foreign Ministers level.
Bombs in Iraqi town kill seven

FALLUJA: Seven people were killed in a series of explosions early on Friday in Iraq”s westerly Anbar province.
Six roadside bombs went off at the same time near six houses, including those of a judge and of police officers, in the town of Khalidiya, about 83 km (50 miles) west of Baghdad, police said. The seven dead were all from the same family, police said. Ten people were wounded.
US launched winged robotic spacecraft

CAPE CANAVERAL: An unmanned Air Force space plane resembling a small space shuttle has been launched on its maiden voyage into orbit, carried aloft aboard an Atlas 5 rocket Thursday evening, the service announced.
The rocket carrying the reusable X-37B Orbital Test Vehicle lifted off at 7:52 p.m. EDT (2352 GMT) from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, an Air Force statement said.
It called the launch of the winged spacecraft a success, but released no immediate details of the mission”s progress. The space plane is to serve as a test platform for unspecified experiments and can stay in orbit for up to 270 days before gliding to an autonomous runway landing, the Air Force has said.
