Mirza spurns PPP-MQM reconciliation
KARACHI: Sindh’s former Senior Minister Dr. Zulfiqar Mirza Friday said reconciliation by Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) with Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) was unacceptable to him.
His supporters in large number gave him warm reception as he arrived at Ghagar Gate from Interior Sindh. Addressing on the occasion, PPP’s firebrand leader stressed he came out to rid people of thieves, dacoits and extortionists.
Disfavoring PPP-MQM reconciliation, Mirza urged people to strengthen hands of President Asif Ali Zardari and Bilawal Bhutto.
When asked to react to the statement given by Mirza against him, Federal Interior Minister Rehman A. Malik declined to comment.
Talking to media at Women Jail, Karachi, Malik said, “I am not meddling with any of Sindh affairs.”
Every action in Karachi is undertaken after Sindh’s Chief Minister and Governor are taken into confidence, the federal minister added. TrendPK
Mirzas statement to trigger violence in Sindh, says MQM
The Coordination Committee meetings of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) were held in Karachi and London to discuss the situation arising after the press conference of former provincial senior minister, Dr Zulfiqar Mirza.
In the joint statement after the meetings Coordination Committee sources said that Zulfiqar Mirza was himself involved in target killings in Karachi.
The Coordination Committee has also asked Pakistan People’s Party to clears its position in this regard.
The MQM condemned Zulfiqar Mirza’s allegations and said why kidnapping for ransom and ‘Bhatta Mafia’ activities started soon after his appointment as Sindh Interior Minister.
The MQM also alleged that Mirza’s allegations would add fuel to the fire and trigger violence in Karachi. The Coordination Committee said that Mirza was directly involved in target killing in Karachi.

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Mohammed Chaudhry has directed Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) to obtain detailed text of the robust statement of senior Sindh minister Dr. Zulfiqar Mirza which the latter stated addressing a press conference in Karachi on Sunday afternoon, TrendPK reported.
SC is all set to hear suo motto case concerning fresh spate of violence and target killings in metropolis at its Karachi Registry today (Monday).
Meanwhile, stern security arrangements have been adopted in and around SC’s Karachi building to ensure peaceful and secure hearing of the case.
According to details, routes, leading to registry building, have been clogged with mammoth containers while heavy police and Rangers’ contingents have been put in place in the area. TrendPK
Karachi hit by rumors after Mirza’s statements
KARACHI: Consequent to the burning statements of Dr. Zulfiqar Mirza amid a press conference, a large number of rumors have blanketed metropolis city, ending up closure of fuel stations and markets in most areas, TrendPK reported Sunday.
Many petrol pumps have been closed down in different parts for fear of eruption of violence.
Meanwhile, great rush of vehicles, forming queues and waiting for their turn, is being witnessed at those pumps which are operational. TrendPK
Zulfiqar Mirza quits PPP position, portfolio
KARACHI: Sindh’s Senior Minister and PPP’s Senior Vice President Dr Zulfiqar Mirza announced on Sunday to quit party position and membership of Sindh Assembly, TrendPK reported.
He claimed that peace could be restored in Karachi within 15 days. “The bloodshed in the city will not end with my departure,” he added.
Zulfiqar Mirza said that he has so many Urdu speaking relatives. “I had not said that all Urdu speaking people were or are bad but I say that those who want to disintegrate Pakistan and specially Sindh are my enemies.”
Mirza said that Rehman Malik is the biggest enemy of Pakistan. “Rehman Malik is the biggest enemy of mine.”
Mirza said that Wali Khan Babar, a Karachi-based journalist, was killed by MQM. “Liaquat, a target killer, killed Wali Khan Babar,” he said.
“The Muttahida Qaumi Movement has not 100 percent mandate in Karachi and Hyderabad.”
“I am not a qualified actor. Rehman Malik is the vice chancellor of ‘liar’ university,” he added.
Mirza said that the Khidmat-e Khalq Foundation’s ambulances are used to transfer weapons and, he added, bodies are thrown through these vehicles.
“The chief of CPLC has affiliation with this organization. I don’t want to see him as the head of CPLC.”
“Altaf Hussain wrote a letter to UK’s premier Tony Blair in 2001, requesting him to eliminate ISI before it can create more Osama bin Laden,” he said.
He said that ISI and army have saved the country.
“I was forced to send to Nine Zero (MQM’s headquarter) once.”
Mirza said that Ishtiaq is a notorious target killer. He belongs to the MQM.
He said that during his time as a Sindh’s home minister he appointed about ten thousand policemen throughout the province. “I did not appoint anyone on the recommendations of the MQM,” he added.
“Altaf Hussain is a killer and the MQM is a terrorist organization,” he said.
“I have dedicated my life for the people of Karachi. I invite business community and traders to support me,” he said.
“It was attempted to defame me through facebook and other means.”
He said that Interior Minister Rehman Malik did not inform the party leadership rightly. “He is the aide of target killers.”
Replying to a question, he said that he will appear before the Supreme Court. “If am called by the court, I’ll say the truth on the Karachi situation,” he added.
Mirza said that MQM’s Nasreen Jalil wrote letters against him to 22 foreign ambassadors.
“I am not leaving PPP and my relation with President Asif Ali Zardari will be intact,” he replied.
Mirza said that he and Pir Mazharul Haq held a meeting with MQM’s Chief Altaf Hussain in London. “Altaf informed me that America wanted to disintegrate Pakistan and his party (MQM) will continue to support this cause and will kill Pakhtoon people,” he said. TrendPK
Rehman keeps cool in response to fiery Zulfiqar Mirza
He said some people got upset owing to the operation in Pak Colony and Layari. He said he was fighting a war against terrorists and had never talked to any target killers. He denied all the charges that Zulfiqar Mirza leveled against.
Talking about Zulfiqar Mirza he said he was an emotional person and he considered his as his brother. Only president and PM can judge his performance, added Rehman Malik. Action will be taken in all the areas indiscriminately.
There was a possibility of annoyance on the part of some PPP leaders. The operation in Karachi will continue until the restoration of peace in Karachi. He admitted some people in the party did not want operation in Layari.
