Europian Countries News: The start of winter is also coming with this year’s only total lunar eclipse, which will be visible across all of North America, Greenland, and parts of Europe.
It will be the first total lunar eclipse in three years. This year, the moon should have a orangish-red color to it, because it is coincides with the winter solstice.
The Moon is normally illuminated by the Sun. During a total lunar eclipse, the full Moon passes through the shadow created by the Earth blocking the Sun’s light. Some indirect sunlight will still manage to pierce through and give the Moon a ghostly colour. The west coast of America witnessed the eclipse on Monday night; observers in North and Central America will be able to view the whole event.
Western Europe will only see the start of the spectacle while western Asia will catch the tail end.The totality phase – when the moon is entirely inside Earth’s shadow – will last a little over an hour.

NASA confirms presence of water on moon
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) on Thursday confirmed the presence of water ice on the Earth’s moon as well as its water cycle after nearly a year since the discovery of water molecules on the natural satellite.
NASA has convincingly confirmed the presence of water ice and characterized its patchy distribution in permanently shadowed regions of the moon, said chief lunar scientist at NASA. Now new results from the Hollywood-esque moonshot reveal lots of water in a crater where the sun never shines, 41 gallons of ice and vapor. The two missions found evidence that the lunar soil within shadowy craters is rich in useful materials, and that the moon has a water cycle and is chemically active. Scientists discovered that water was present in the form of mostly pure ice crystals in some places. After the twin impacts, grains of mostly pure water ice were in the plume meaning that water ice was somehow delivered to the moon in the past or a chemical process caused ice to accumulate in large quantities. With this knowledge of the moon’s water cycle and processes, future mission planners could better determine locations with easily-accessible water. The existence of mostly pure water ice could mean future human explorers won’t have to retrieve the water out of the soil. In addition, an abundant presence of hydrogen gas, ammonia and methane could be exploited to produce fuel.

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Lebanon are celebrating the Islamic holiday of Eid al-Fitr, marking the end of the fasting month of Ramadan, on Friday.
In Saudi Arabia, seen as the beacon of Islam, the supreme court ruled that Thursday would be the final day of fasting, before the Eid celebration opens the new month of Shawwal, according to the announcement on the official SPA news agency.
Until Wednesday’s ruling, based on observing the progress of the new moon, it was not clear whether Eid would take place on Thursday or Friday. The holiday depends on the sighting of the moon, and can therefore be observed on different days around the world.

India launches 5 satellites into orbit

BANGALORE: India successfully launched five satellites into orbit on Monday, three months after the country”s space ambitions suffered a setback when a rocket crashed at lift-off.
The five satellites included an advanced remote sensing satellite called Cartosat-2B, as well as a satellite from Algeria.
Three other smaller experimental devices from India, Canada and Switzerland were also released.
“The rocket deployed the five satellites in the intended polar orbits after a textbook launch from the spaceport under perfect weather conditions,” Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) director S. Satish told a foreign news agency.
The launch site was at Sriharikota, about 80 kilometres (50 miles) northeast of Chennai. In April an Indian rocket showcasing domestically-built booster technology crashed soon after lift-off from the same site.
The first Indian-made cryogenic powered rocket, a complex technology mastered by just five countries, fell into the Bay of Bengal due to a component failure.
India aims to launch its first manned space mission in 2016 and wants to grab a larger share of the multi-billion-dollar market for launching commercial satellites.
Last August India”s first unmanned moon mission, launched amid much fanfare in 2008, came to an abrupt end when controllers lost contact with the craft.
But gloom turned to delight in September when data collected from the mission showed water on the moon, boosting India”s credibility.
India began its space programme in 1963 and has developed its own satellites and launch vehicles to cut dependence on other countries.

Ampyra is a potassium channel blocker approved as a treatment to aid walking in patients with multiple sclerosis. Ampyra was tested having a result of an increase in walking speed. Ampyra is a tablet formulation of dalfampridine (4-aminopyridine, 4-AP), formerly called fampridine. Based from research, dalfampridine was observed to improve impulse conduction in nerve fibers in which the insulating layer, called myelin, has been damaged. AMPYRA, which was previously referred to as Fampridine-SR, is an extended release tablet formulation of dalfampridine (4-aminopyridine, 4-AP), which was previously called fampridine. In laboratory studies, dalfampridine has been found to improve impulse conduction in nerve fibers in which the insulating layer, called myelin, has been damaged.
