KARACHI: The Zilhaj moon was sighted in Saudi Arabia on Saturday evening and today (Sunday) would be the first day of the holy month in the Kingdom.
The Haj will begin on November 14.
After official astronomers confirmed the moon sighting, that decides the start of the month of Zilhaj, the Supreme Court declared today (Sunday) to be the first day of the month, the official SPA news agency reported.
The ruling means the Haj will now start on November 14.
More than 1.5 million Muslims from all over the world have already converged on the holy cities of Mecca and Madina in Saudi Arabia for the Haj, the world’s largest annual gathering. Trend Pk

PESHAWAR: The Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has announced to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr on Friday (tomorrow), after the announcement of Shawwal moon sighting by the religious elders of Peshwar’s Mosque Qasim Ali Khan.
The Shawwal moon sighting meeting of nongovernmental committee of Peshawar’s Mosque Qasim Ali Khan was presided over by Mufti Shahb-ud-Din.
The religious elders participating in the meeting said that they have received 20 persons, including two women, witnesses of sighting Shawwal moon.
On the other side, the Waziristan and Mohmand Agencies have already announced to celebrate Eid on Friday.

Zilhaj Moon Not Sighted in NWFP
Peshawar, Pakistan: Differing with Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, the zonal committee of NWFP and local Ulema held a meeting in Peshawar. The meeting announced that Zilhaj moon was not sighted so Eid al-Adha will be celebrated on Saturday, November 28 across the province.
The local Ulema held a meeting under the chairmanship of Maulana Khair-ul-Bashar in historical mosque Masjid Qasim Ali Khan on Tuesday, whereas, Provincial Ruet-e-Hilal Ccommittee met in Auqaf Plaza. Both the meetings did not receive any testimony of moon sighting from any district of the province. The Zonal committee will meet again for moon sighting on Wednesday.
On the other hand, after the meeting in Masjid Qasim Ali Khan, Maulana Khair-ul-Bashar announced that the Ulema had decided to complete 30 days of Zeqaad. Therefore, first Zilhaj will be on Thursday Nov 19 and Eid al-Adha will be celebrated on Nov 28.

The UAE, Saudi Arab and other Gulf countries celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr today after sighting of the Shawwal moon was announced on Saturday.

In several European countries including Britain, France and Germany Muslims are celebrating Eid today.
The moon sighting body of UAE in a statement yesterday evening said, “After several measures, and following contacts with neighbouring countries, it was established that tomorrow, Sunday, is the first day of Shawwal and hence the first day of Eid-ul-Fitr in the UAE.”
Separately, the Supreme Council of Saudi Arab in a statement said credible reports of sighting Shawwal moon have been received. Therefore, Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Sunday.
