Simon Cowell shoots down Beyonce ‘X Factor’ rumors

LOS ANGELES: Time will tell who will fill the recently vacated judge’s chairs on “The X Factor,” but one thing’s for sure — it won’t be Beyonce Knowles. At least, if Simon Cowell is to be believed.

Fox’s recently minted competition series had a major shakeup last week, with judges Nicole Scherzinger and Paul Abdul — along with host Steve Jones — getting the heave-ho. And while the rumor mill swirled with scuttlebutt about Cowell offering “Single Ladies” singer Knowles an astronomical sum to come aboard, the famously cantankerous Brit says it’s not happening.

“I have no idea where this rumor came from,” Cowell said in an interview with “Extra.” “I read it online that I offered her $100 million a year. It’s complete nonsense.”

Cowell also revealed that executives at Fox began talking to him about a shakeup “t the beginning of the year– and we were told it had to happen straight away.”

He also took responsibility for the perception that “X Factor” has been a lukewarm success, admitting that his declaration that the show would be bigger than his last gig, “American Idol,” set the bar too high.

“It’s only because I opened my big mouth and said we were going to get 20 million,” Cowell said. “If I hadn’t said that, everybody would be saying the show was a huge success.” AGENCIES

We see the woods. We see Lawrence, running. We see flames. We hear Liam Hemsworth as Gale, narrating. And we end with Katniss shooting an arrow through the “Hunger Games” logo.

“The Hunger Games” is based on Suzanne Collins’s best-selling novels. It’s the first installment in a four-film series from Lionsgate. Co-starring Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, Stanley Tucci, Elizabeth Banks and Woody Harrelson, “The Hunger Games” will be in theaters on March 23, 2012.

Gaddafi still a threat, says Libya council chief

DOHA: Muammar Gaddafi, who has not been seen since rebels took over the Libyan capital of Tripoli a week ago, is still a threat to the country and the world, the chairman of the National Transitional Council (NTC) said on Monday. 

Speaking at a meeting in Doha, Qatar, of defence ministers from countries supporting the insurgency against Gaddafi’s rule, NTC Chairman Mustafa Abdel Jalil called on NATO to keep supporting the movement.

“I call for continued protection from NATO and its allies from this tyrant,” Abdel Jalil said.

The NTC, which is hunting Libya’s deposed leader and pushing to take over his hometown of Sirte east of Tripoli, said on Saturday it had no firm information on his whereabouts. It has offered a $1.3 million reward and amnesty from prosecution for anyone who kills or captures Gaddafi. AGENCIES

Selena Gomez will host VMA’s pre-show

TrendPK.com: It looks like Selena Gomez’s star power is continuing to rise as she has been chosen to host the MTV Video Music Awards’ pre-show.

Gomez will reportedly anchor the pre-show where she will interview others in the business alongside Sway Calloway, Jim Cantiello and James Montgomery, states MTV.

“I am very excited to be a part of the 2011 VMAs! After all of my years watching the VMAs, the pre-show has always been one of my favorite parts. It is a true honor to be hosting from the black carpet this year,” Gomez commented in a statement.

Lady Gaga taking on MTV VMAs opening

 TrendPK.com: Music and performance doesn’t get much hotter than Lady Gaga which is why it makes perfect sense that she would be chosen to open the MTV Video Music Awards.

Gaga made the announcement with the help of her Little Monsters who revealed the news on a banner, states RadarOnline.com.

Gaga commented that she appreciates the big honor that means a lot to her.

This year, she is nominated for four awards that include: Best Female Video and Best Video With a Message for “Born This Way;” and Best Art Direction and Best Choreography for “Judas.”

Emma Watson teases “Harry Potter” at MTV Movie Awards

TrendPK.com: Emma Watson appeared on stage at the 2011 MTV Movie Awards last night and thanks “Harry Potter” fans for their years of support.

Then she expressed her appreciation and gratitude by showing them an exclusive clip from the upcoming “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2.”

The clip, essentially, shows Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) meeting Lod Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes) in the Forbidden Forest for their monumental face off. Then that scene bled into footage we’ve already seen in the final “Hallows” trailer. We have a brief look at it below.

Watson and the clip received tremendous applause, though “Potter” still took a backseat to “Twilight” during Sunday night’s telecast.

Stunt show ‘Jackass’ in 3D tackles box office

LOS ANGELES: The latest comedy stunt film “Jackass” toppled the Facebook movie from its two-week reign over North American movie theatres, debuting with 50 million dollars in ticket sales, preliminary figures showed Sunday.

The 3D movie featuring prankster Johnny Knoxville and his crew surpassed predictions with the whopping open of its third movie, 10 years after they started their daring comic antics with a show on MTV, according to box office tracker Exhibitor Relations.

Appealing to a more mature crowd, spy thriller “Red” featuring Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich and Helen Mirren took in 22.5 million dollars for the second spot with its tale of retired intelligence agents who get back in the game.

Facebook movie “The Social Network” fell to third place with 11,000 in ticket sales in its third week in theatres.

‘Jackass’ daredevils top box office for third time

LOS ANGELES: Blowing stuff up never gets old in movies, as the death-defying pranksters from MTV’s reality series “Jackass” proved at the North American box office on Sunday.

“Jackass 3D,” the third installment in a feature series about a crew of thrill junkies, crushed forecasts by selling an estimated $50 million in tickets during its first three days of release across the United States and Canada, distributor Paramount Pictures said.

If projections hold up when final data are issued on Monday, the film will beat 2003′s “Scary Movie 3″ ($48.1 million) to rank as the biggest October opening of all time.

Pundits had forecast “Jackass 3″ would open in the $30 million range. The actual result ranks as the best opening since the Leonardo DiCaprio thriller “Inception” kicked off with $63 million three months ago.

Lady Gaga, Katy Perry lead MTV Europe nominations

LONDON: Lady Gaga and Katy Perry go head-to-head at the MTV Europe Music Awards in November, with five nominations apiece.

The U.S. pop princesses are both shortlisted in four categories — best pop act, best song, best female act and best video. Completing the nominations for Lady Gaga is best live act and for Katy Perry “best world stage performance”.

Elsewhere in the nominations list, rapper Eminem has four nominations including best song, best male act, best hip hop and best video for his Rihanna collaboration “Love the Way You Lie”.

British stadium rockers Muse, along with Thirty Seconds to Mars, Linkin Park and Kings of Leon, find themselves up against “Prince of Darkness” Ozzy Osbourne in the best rock category.
