Justice Raza Issues Additional Note on NRO
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan News: Justice Sardar Muhammad Raza Khan on Wednesday issued his additional note for the detailed judgment on petitions against the controversial National Reconciliation Ordinance.
In the note he observed, the “I have no doubt about the conclusion that NRO is violative of all those articles of the Constitution referred to in the judgment and is void ab initio.”
He said once the NRO 2007 is non est, resultantly all cases affected thereby shall revive from the stage where each was interrupted at.
He noted that “Suo Moto or direct action is not taken by the Supreme Court about matters at trial stage because most of such Courts are under the direct supervisory and administrative control of the High Courts,” and added that the SC should monitor the NRO cases in usual manner.
In his note, Justice Raza said “the beneficiary who clearly confessed through the Ordinance that many Accountability cases were politically motivated, politically indicted, and politically prolonged, obviously as a sword of Damocles. If politically motivated, why were those indicted. If genuine, why were those dishonestly prolonged and no verdict was obtained against the accused involved.”
“All this, is aimed at bringing home that all beneficiaries are to be dealt with accordingly, equally and without discrimination. The maker of the Ordinance should also be brought to accountability for perpetuating corruption and for violating the Constitution.”

Justice Khan Takes Oath as Acting Chief EC
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Supreme Court’s judge Justice Sardar Muhammad Raza Khan has taken oath as acting Chief Election Commissioner.
Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary administered him the oath in a ceremony held at the SC. Judges of the SC, acting attorney general, secretary election commission and other law officials attended the oath taking ceremony.
Justice Sardar Raza Khan will serve as acting chief election commissioner till November 26 in absence of Justice (R) Hamid Ali Mirza, the sitting chief election commissioner.

Supreme Judicial Council Meeting Underway
ISLAMABAD
: The Supreme Judicial Council meeting at the Supreme Court building underway with Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Mohammed Chaudhry in chair.
The council proceeding over the charges of corruption and irregularities against Sindh High Court judge Justice Muhammad Afzal Soomro.
The meeting was attended by Justice Javed Iqbal, Justice Sardar Muhammad Raza Khan, Peshawar High Court Chief Justice Mr. Justice Tariq Pervez, Lahore High Court Chief Justice Mr. Justice Khawaja Muhammad Sharif and SC Registrar and SJC Secretary Dr Faqir Hussain.
