FIA had filed application under section 503 about despatching a judicial commission to India. FIA has completed its arguments on it while defence counsel Khawaja Sultan and other lawyers were yet to give arguments on behalf of Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi and other accused.

Defence lawyer Khawaja Sultan Ahmad had made interior minister and government respondents in contempt plea. It was said in the contempt application that interior minister while addressing a seminar in London had said with respect to the petition pending hearing in the court in Mumbai attack case that court had granted commission’s request for sending judicial commission to India and the commission would leave for India within 7 to 11 days.

The court while granting plea of Khawaja Sultan Ahmad stopped debate over the application filed by FIA for sending commission to India and issued contempt of court notice to Interior Minister Rehman Malik on his statement.

The court on the request of lawyers has also summoned three prosecution witnesses including forensic expert of FIA Noman Ashraf Godla, Inspector Sardar Muhammad Azam and Nisar Jadoon from FIA on August, 13 for recording their statements.

Chinese explosive scanners called in question

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority has informed the sub standing committee of Senate that explosive scanners imported from China should be used for checking of vehicles only keeping humans away at a distance of 40 kilometers.

A meeting of sub committee constituted to evaluate radiation impact on humans was held here.

The interior ministry officials informed the chairman committee Senator Talha Mahmood that four scanners will be imported from China among which two have already reached Pakistan. These scanners will be installed at four entry points of Islamabad.

Nuclear Regulatory Authority officials told the committee that interim permission to operate the scanner has been given till July 28. China will carry out maintenance for one year, which will later continue by Pakistani officials.

Krishna believes Aman ki Asha vital for peace

NEW DELHI: External Affairs Minister SM Krishna said Jang Group-launched Aman ki Asha would go a long way in taking down the tension between the two countries, Geo News reported Thursday.

Talking to Pakistani journalists here, he lauded Pakistan for having taken up good practical steps to abolish the hideouts of extremists.

Mumbai Attacks aggravated the ties between the two countries; however, the Jang Group-sponsored project ‘Aman ki Asha’ will help scale down the tension between the two nations.

Responding a query regarding his Pakistan visit, Krishna said the headway to resolve the issues, would be achieved through meeting with his Pakistani counterpart Shah Mehmood Qureshi, adding it would enhance the outlook for peace in the region.

The five points are indispensable in restoring relations with Pakistan; these include elimination of safe havens for terrorisms and putting back in place the atmosphere of trust and trade.

Pakistan, India agree to resume composite dialogue

THIMPHU: Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said trust deficit exists between Pakistan and India; however, both the countries have vowed to initiate composite talks stalled after Mumbai Attacks, Geo News reported Thursday.

Briefing the media about the meeting between Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani and his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh, he said the meeting between the prime ministers of Pakistan and India turned out positive and concluded on a very positive note, adding no one expected such a positive meeting.

Foreign Ministers of the two countries have been assigned task to bring the ties between the two countries to normalcy, Mehmood Qureshi said adding the FMs will have to bridge this gap of deficit.

He informed that Home ministers of Saarc countries would arrive in Pakistan on 26th June.

Commenting on Mumbai Attacks, he said the perpetrators of the incident would be brought to justice, adding the terrorism is spoiling the ties between the two countries.

Commenting on cross border infiltration into Balochistan, the FM Qureshi said Indian premier vowed that India has no intention to destabilize Pakistan.

The water issue was also brought under discussion between the two leaders, he told the media.

Gilani-Singh meeting ends

THIMPHU: The most discussed and anticipated meeting between the prime ministers of Pakistan and India came to an end on the sidelines of South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Summit here, Geo News reported Thursday.

The tete-a-tete between Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani and his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh continued for 50 minutes well beyond the assigned time for the purpose.

The meeting held at the residence of Bhutan’s premier started late by one hours. Before the meeting, both the leaders came smilingly to the media and shook hands.

According to sources, there was no set agenda for the meeting.

LHC issues notice to water and power ministry

LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) has directed water and power ministry to end unannounced load shedding, issue load shedding schedule and presented it in the court on May 3.

A local resident of Lahore Imtiaz Rashid Qureshi has field a petition in LHC seeking legal action against water and power ministry for violating court’s order for ending unannounced load shedding and publishing load shedding schedule in newspapers.

After initial hearing, LHC has directed the PEPCO officials to present load shedding schedule in the court on May 3.

4dfb5099ccstate Lahore: Blaze Ravages Chemical Factory In Industrial StateChemicals and machinery worth of millions of rupees were destroyed when a huge fire broke out in a chemical factory in Green Town, Lahore. Fire brigade is trying to contain the fire.

Fire brigade sources said that the blaze broke out late night in the factory, they added that the cause of the fire could not be immediately ascertained, though an electric short-circuit was believed to have caused it.

10 to 12 fire brigade engines were pressed into service to contain the fire; however it is feared that the fire cannot be put out until the entire quantity of chemical is burnt. The fire fighters are trying to stop the fire from reaching neighboring factories.

64d708a1a6ttacks David Headley Admits Role In Mumbai AttacksUS citizen of Pakistani origin David Headley has admitted 12 counts of conspiracy. He pleaded guilty to scouting targets for the 2008 attacks on the Indian city of Mumbai.

Prosecutors will therefore ask for a lesser sentence since Headley was cooperating with the prosecutors, but US District Court Judge Harry Leinenweber said Headley could still be jailed for life. David Headley, at his trial in Chicago, also admitted plotting to attack a Danish newspaper that published a cartoon many Muslims deemed offensive.

Headley, 49, had denied the charges but changed his plea to avoid the death penalty or extradition to India, Pakistan or Denmark.
