Zardari’s daughters launch ‘pro-father’ campaign
Slain former Pakistan premier Benazir Bhutto s children are using the social networking website Twitter to defend their father President Asif Ali Zardari and to settle scores with their cousin Fatima Bhutto.

Bakhtawar tweeted when Zardari signed into law a landmark constitution reforms package which stripped the President of his sweeping powers.
Bakhtawar s brother Bilawal, who is co-chairman of the ruling Pakistan People s Party, is also doing his best to popularize the party.
“I wish Zia (Gen Zia-ul-Haq) had lived. I wish he had lived to witness our revenge,” Bilawal, 21, tweeted some hours ago.
Bilawal tweeted a famous Zia quote “men are in charge of women because Allah has made one superior to the other… good women are obedient” and said that he wished the military dictator who died in 1988 had lived to see the new Pakistan.
“I wish he had lived despite the fact that he murdered members of my family. I wish he had lived to see the day we elected the Muslim world s first female PM. I wish he had lived to see us elect the first female speaker of our National Assembly,” Bilawal tweeted.
The Bhutto-Zardari siblings have also been tweeting about their pet peeve ‘cousin Fatima Bhutto’ who recently released her tell-all book on the Bhutto dynasty.
In another tweet she told Bilawal, “I know, you never tweet love me. Sigh. I ll accept all the other mediums of love though so it s okay.”
Bakhtawar, a student at Edinburgh, discloses her location and also her webpage. She introduces herself as lyricist, enthusiast and nationalist.
Benazir s youngest daughter Asifa, who is Pakistan s polio ambassador, has protected her tweets. She is also doing her bit to promote her dead mother.
Aseefa is studying at Edinburgh and is a fan of vampires.
“Hey I like vampires. I watched Angel and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, I am addicted to Twilight and watch Vampire Diaries as well,” reads Aseefa s intro on Twitter.
Bilawal, a student at Christ Church College in Oxford, has 298 followers.
All the three Bhutto children have their mother s pictures as backdrops for their homepages. The three siblings keep in touch tweeting about missing each other or planning get-togethers. They also send links about news stories related to their parents.
Bilawal, Bakhtawar and Aseefa seem to be taking their education seriously.
“Did not like the SPT paper, probably should have watched less cricket and studied more…,” tweeted Bakhtawar.
In another tweet, she promised not to “indulge” in distractions or be “tempted” by current affairs.
India probes Google over forex transaction
Indian authorities are probing whether online giant Google broke domestic foreign-exchange transactions rules while shifting funds abroad, the Press Trust of India reported on Friday.
Quoting unidentified sources, the news agency said India s Directorate of Enforcement, which monitors foreign exchange dealings, has informed Google about the probe.
The department is scrutinising the shifting of money by Google to its foreign entities and also its receipt of funds from abroad, the news agency said.
Google did not respond to telephone calls seeking comment.
But the Press Trust quoted a company spokeswoman as saying that Google s tax structure “is compliant with the tax rules in all the countries where we operate”.
The reported investigation comes as Google, which employs close to 2,000 people in India, is embroiled in a controversy involving Internet censorship in India.
Google and social networking site Facebook said earlier this month they had removed allegedly offensive content on their Indian sites as part of a court case seen as a test for Internet control and censorship.
Indian regulations oblige Internet companies to remove material that is “grossly harmful” or “ethnically objectionable”.
The two companies have been named alongside another 19 Internet firms in cases being heard in a New Delhi court which will determine whether they can be held responsible for obscene material generated online by users.
The groups, including Yahoo and Microsoft, have appealed to the Delhi High Court asking for the case to be quashed on the basis that they cannot be held responsible for the actions of users of their platforms.
Communications Minister Kapil Sibal in December pledged a crackdown on “unacceptable” online content, saying Internet service providers had ignored India s demands to screen images and data before they were uploaded.
Critics have said such demands cannot be enforced and smack of state censorship.
Twitter’s censorship plan sparks global furor
The social networking site will start removing tweets that break local laws. But it says no message will be taken down until an internal review determines there s a legal problem.
Twitter insists its commitment to free speech remains firm.
San Francisco-based Twitter, founded in 2006, depicted the new system as a step forward. Previously, when Twitter erased a tweet, it vanished throughout the world. Under the new policy, a tweet breaking a law in one country can be taken down there and still be seen elsewhere.
“This is a good thing for freedom of expression, transparency and accountability,” said Twitter s general counsel. “This launch is about us keeping content up whenever we can and to be extremely transparent with the world when we don t. I would hope people realize our philosophy hasn t changed.”
There have been calls though, in a barrage of tweets, to boycott the site until the censorship initiative is scrapped.
Pak lodges official protest over Facebook images with US
Pakistans ambassador to the US has launched an official protest with the United States over the blasphemous representation of the Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) on a Facebook page. The page containing sacrilegious material drew a strong reaction from Pakistan and was removed from the networking website on Saturday morning.
Talking to US Special Representative Richard Holbrooke, Pakistans Ambassador to the US Hussain Haqqani expressed the sentiments and strong feelings of the Pakistani government and people over the issue.
US special representative Richard Holbrooke assured that he understood the Pakistani and Muslim sentiments over the appearance of the images, which were offensive to all.
