It wasn’t clear when or where Maj Gen Jin Yinan made the comments. While some of the cases had been announced before, few details had been released, while others involving the military had been entirely secret.
Among those Jin discussed was that of former Ambassador to South Korea Li Bin, who was sentenced to seven years for corruption. Jin said Li had actually been discovered passing secrets to South Korea that compromised China s position in North Korean nuclear disarmament talks, but the allegations were too embarrassing to make public and graft charges were brought instead.
“In all the world, what nation s ambassador serves as another country s spy?” Jin said.
Is secularism dying in Pakistan?
ISLAMABAD: Secularism has become a dangerous, deadly label in Pakistan as Muslim extremists slowly strengthen their stranglehold on the nuclear-armed, U.S. ally and put its stability at risk.
Punjab governor Salman Taseer was a liberal, secular Muslim who, last week, was shot dead by his own bodyguard for opposing a blasphemy law that many human rights activists say is often used to discriminate against ethnic and religious minorities.
Taseer’s death shocked many in Pakistan and abroad, but perhaps the widespread lionisation of his assassin, Malik Mumtaz Hussain Qadri, was more worrying for the future of a country that Washington sees as key in its fight against militancy.
Israel destroyed Syrian nuclear reactor: WikiLeaks

WikiLeaks disclosed that Israel destroyed a Syrian nuclear reactor in an air raid on September 6, 2007. According to WikiLeaks Israel destroyed the nuclear reactor built by Syria secretly, apparently with North Koreas help, then US secretary of state Condoleezza Rice wrote in the cable published in Yediot Aharonot newspaper.
Our intelligence experts are convinced that the attack targeted by the Israelis is in fact an atomic reactor of the same type built by North Korea in Yongbyon, she wrote in the message dated April 2008. We have good reason to believe that the reactor was not built for peaceful purposes, she said, adding the attack came only weeks before the reactor was to become operational.Rice also noted the secrecy surrounding the construction of the nuclear facility, with the Syrian authorities refusing to invite the International Atomic Energy Agency or any media to inspect the site.
Israel has for its part never denied that its air force attacked a target in Syria, without ever officially claiming responsibility for the action.

Iran Doesnt Need Nuclear Weapons: FM Qureshi

News Trends: Foreign minister of Pakistan has said that Iran had no justification to pursue nuclear weapons and urged the neighboring country to embrace overtures from the United States.
In some of Pakistan’s strongest statements on Iran’s controversial nuclear program, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that he wanted to avoid “another major crisis in the region.”
“In my view, I don’t think they have a justification to go nuclear,” Qureshi said at Harvard University.
“Who’s threatening Iran? I don’t see any immediate threat to Iran,” he said, while adding that Pakistan accepted Iran’s “right to civilian use of technology.”
Qureshi said he has shared his views with Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki and told him to seize on US President Barack Obama’s stated willingness to engage in dialogue to mend decades of fraught US-Iranian ties.
“This administration has been extending the olive branch — make use of it. Engage the world,” Qureshi said.
Pakistan has a mostly friendly but complicated relationship with Iran. Pakistan and Iran in June signed a deal that commits Tehran to selling natural gas from a pipeline. The United States has warned against the project as it steps up sanctions on Iran over its nuclear program.
Qureshi said that Pakistan faces a threat from India, making its case different than Iran’s.
Qureshi also pointed out that Iran was signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, which Pakistan and India never signed.
“They have an international obligation. They have signed NPT and they should respect that,” he said.

WASHINGTON: Former president Pervez Musharraf has dubbed nuclear scientist Dr Abdul Qadir Khan as “characterless” and rejected his claims that Pakistani army had monitored and organised clandestine atomic deals with countries like Iran and North Korea.
“Mr (A Q) Khan is a characterless man,” Musharraf told German magazine Der Spiegel when asked about the Pakistani nuclear scientist whom he had put under house arrest on charges of proliferation of nuclear technologies to ”rogue” countries like North Korea and Iran.
On Khan”s claims that the Pakistani army monitored and organised such nuclear deals, he said “that is wrong, absolutely wrong.”
“I would be a traitor if I had ever given our nuclear weapons to the United States. This capability is our pride and it will never be compromised,” he said.

UNITED NATIONS: North Korea should strengthen its “nuclear deterrent” in response to the threat posed by the United States, North Korean Vice Foreign Minister Pak Kil-yon said on Wednesday.
“As long as the U.S. nuclear aircraft carriers sail around the seas of our country, our nuclear deterrent can never be abandoned, but should be strengthened further,” he told the U.N. General Assembly. “This is the lesson we have drawn.” AGENCIES
Dr AQ Khan security protocol reinstated
The Lahore High Court on Tuesday ordered to restore the security protocol of nuclear scientist Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan.
The court has also allowed Dr Qadeer for free movement.
LHC has asked the government to submit a reply against the contempt plea filed by Dr Qadeer by October 8. He pleaded that the government is not following court orders and he was imprisoned under the pretense of security protocol. The court, on Dr. Qadeers request, reinstated high security protocol and asked the government to submit a reply. On the other hand, Islamabad police barred media from meeting with the nuclear scientist, on the plea that they have not received any directives from the interior ministry in this regard by then.
