Intl Day of Older Persons being observed
The International Day of Older Persons is being observed all across the world today. The Day is observed on October 1 each year. The theme of this year is: Older persons and the achievement of the MDGs.
On December 14, 1990 the United Nations General Assembly voted to establish October 1 as the International Day of Older Persons as recorded in Resolution 45/106. The holiday was observed for the first time on October 1, 1991.
The holiday is celebrated by raising awareness about issues affecting the elderly, such as senescence and elder abuse. It is also a day to appreciate the contributions that older people make to society.
In his message on the International Day of Older Persons, being observed on Oct 1, President Asif Ali Zardari has stated that the government is fully cognizant of the issues of elderly people and has taken some institutional and legislative measures to address their problems in the country. Our religion and cultural values place great emphasis on us to look after the elderly and infirm. The elderly people are usually looked after by the families within their resources. However, the myriad pressures of life has posed new challenges and weakened the institution of joint family system. That is why it is important for the government to make institutional arrangements to take care of their elderly when families support to them is either non-existent or inadequate, the President said.
In his message on International Day of Older Persons, being observed on Oct 1, Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has reiterated Pakistans commitment to safeguarding the rights of senior citizens and adopting policies to ensure their welfare and well-being in the society. We live in a society which accords high status to the old persons and holds them in great esteem. Senior citizens in our state and society enjoy special privileges and respect. For the sake of this purpose, we stand with the international community to celebrate the International Day of Older Persons. The day draws our attention to this important segment of society to re-affirm our commitment and determination for welfare of older persons, Gilani said.
Britain’s Labour elects Ed Miliband as new leader

MANCHESTER: Britain’s opposition Labour Party chose former Energy Secretary Ed Miliband as its new leader on Saturday after a cliffhanger vote.
Miliband, 40, defeated his older brother David, a former foreign secretary, by a wafer-thin margin to take over the helm of the centre-left party.
He succeeds former prime minister Gordon Brown who resigned after the party lost the May election, ending 13 years in power.
David Miliband was favoured by centrists in the party whereas Ed has slightly more left-leaning views and won the backing of major trade unions who help finance the party.
Miliband won in the fourth round of the vote count, by a margin of a little over one percent, to steal the prize that had seemed within the grasp of his older brother for much of the leadership campaign.
“David, I love you so much as a brother and I have such
Boney Kapoor to direct film, but it won’t star Sridevi

After years into the movie business as one of Bollywood’s primary producers, Boney Kapoor is finally taking the plunge as a director. The project is likely to feature a bevy of top notch actors including of course Salman Khan.
But sorry to disappoint Sridevi’s fans Boney won’t be directing his mesmeric wife, at least not in his directorial debut.
Says Boney, “It’s too much of a responsibility, too much stress, and to do justice to Sri in my first film as a director would be really tough. We can’t separate our personal equation and become professionals on the sets. So no, I’m not directing Sri in my first film.”
Boney reveals that he was meant to direct Sridevi in a remake of Chris Columbus’ Stepmom some years ago. “I wanted to cast Sri and Kajol as the older and younger women. I had even spoken to Kajol who’s a big favourite of mine, about it. But look at the irony of it. Kajol is now playing the older woman and Bebo (Kareena) the younger in Karan Johar’s adaptation Of Stepmom.”
Expressing regret that he missed out on the opportunity earlier, Boney is now all set to rectify the situation.
Says Boney, “It’s about time I took the plunge, and I am going to. Not too many people know I was an assistant director with Shakti Samanta on four movies Mehbooba, Anand Ashram, The Great Gambler and (the unreleased) Maha Guru. I guess it was inevitable for me to finally go into direction.”
The details for Boney’s directorial debut are being worked out. He hopes to clear the decks of his production work before taking the plunge early next year.

Who Won for The love of Ray j 2, The For the Love of Ray J winner (season 2) will be revealed during the show’s season finale tonight on VH1. But will it be Mz. Berry or Platinum?
These two women could
n’t be more different, if you ask us. Mz. Berry is the older divorcee who already has children and wants a longterm relationship. Platinum is still young and in party girl mode — just like season one winner Cocktail.
While Mz. Berry has her faults (she is way too jealous and possessive), Platinum has her faults too (we can’t forget that she is still pining over that ex-boyfriend).
So, who should win Ray-J’s heart? Should the For the Love of Ray J winner be Mz. Berry or Platinum? Let us know in the comments, or come back after the show to sound off on who wins For the Love of Ray-J 2.

The New Mobile Home: A New Breed, A New Distinction

When somebody mentions the term “mobile home,” we often get visions of those dilapidated milk-carton-shaped housing units that stand on wheels and look like a million other carton-shaped houses of the same type. While you might think of mobile homes in this manner, these days, the mobile home is actually a housing option that a few million people in America have chosen as their home. Now, before you conclude that approximately 9 million people in the country have poor taste in home selection, you should know that the new mobile home is not the mobile home you might be envisioning in your mind. For more information visit mobile solutions
The New Breed
While present-day mobile homes can still be used as traveling houses, these days, majority of the people who buy mobile homes set them down on foundations as permanent homes in neighborhoods all over the country. This new breed of mobile homes is built the same way their older counterparts were built—in factories on an assembly line. The similarity with their older versions, however, ends there. These new kinds of mobile homes are now built in designs and sizes that are typical of regular homes that are built from the ground up. The difference between these mobile homes and their site built cousins lie in the amount of money one has to come up with to have a house of a certain good quality. With only a fraction of the cost, you can now have a house that can easily rival the houses that are constructed in a span of months in a house that comes to you ready-built and ready for occupancy. Go to mobile solutions for more information.
The New Distinction
Mobile homes can still be called as such since they do come with the brackets and wheels and other attachments that make them movable. While they can still be used as homes that move from one state to another and from one mobile home park to the next, the sudden change of these homes from being plain mobile to having the option of being rooted to one spot has also given these housing units another moniker. They are now called manufactured homes.
These mobile homes are now called manufactured homes simply because they are manufactured as a whole unit. They are built in their entirety in the manufacturer’s assembly plant and are shipped to home buyers nationwide to do as they please. While these home buyers can indeed decide to travel from one place to another in their mobile homes, majority of the people who purchase these manufactured homes set them down on concrete foundations and live in them in the same area for a lengthier amount of time.
This latest transition of mobile homes to manufactured homes has given them the chance to get out of mobile home parks and into regular neighborhoods with the appearance of multisection manufactured homes that stand as big as three to four room homes. This latest change in the way mobile homes are built and used has given millions of people in the U.S. a chance to own a beautiful home at a huge discount as compared to the housing options they used to be stuck with. Now, with the new mobile home, looking for a good quality home need not be that expensive anymore. Visit mobile solutions for more information.

Sreesanth puts India on the brink of an innings win
Sreesanth captured six out of the 13 Sri Lankan wickets that fell on the third day’s play at Kanpur to put India on the brink of a big innings victory. Sri Lanka in reply to India’s 642 crashed to 229 all out in their first innings and have already lost four wickets after following on!
The Lankans had a bad first session with Sreesanth picking up three wickets – opener Paranavitana (chasing a wide away going delivery to get caught for 38), Sangakkara (dragging a big cover drive onto the stumps to get bowled for 44) and Samaraweera (dragging his cut onto the stumps). Sri Lanka lost one more wicket in Angelo Mathews before lunch to get reduced to 138 for 5.
In the afternoon session, India had to wait for a long time before getting their next scalp as Mahela Jayawardene and Prasanna Jayawardene got a partnership going. It was again Sreesanth who provided the breakthrough by having Prasanna (39) caught behind playing a loose cut shot. Mahela Jayawardene (47) followed him back to the pavilion after a big shot off debutant spinner Pragyan Ojha failed to clear mid on. Sreesanth soon picked up his fifth wicket when he bowled left handed Rangana Herath with one that swung away from middle to hit the off stump. Sri Lanka went to Tea at 219 for 8.
The visitors got bowled out within no time after Tea and the follow on was enforced by Dhoni. Once again Sreesanth came good for India as he forced Dilshan to nick him behind. In a surprise move, Dhoni brought on Virender Sehwag in the 11th over and the part timer got rid of Paranavitana with an arm ball that had him lbw.
Sri Lanka got into horrible trouble moments later with Mahela Jayawardene getting run out due to a misjudgement of a single by Sangakkara. The Lankan Captain himself exited from the middle after dragging on a cut shot off Harbhajan onto the stumps. Sri Lanka finished the day’s play ar 57 for 4 in their second innings and know very well that nothing can save them from a big defeat tomorrow

Akmal Brothers save the day for Pakistan
Pakistan after getting reduced to a disastrous 85 for 5 fought back superbly through Umar Akmal and his older brother Kamran Akmal to end Day 3 at 307 for 8. Umar Akmal went onto score a century on Test Debut! The Akmal Brothers put on a terrific counter punch with a partnership of 176 for the sixth wicket. New Zealand still hold the game in their control as Pakistan have a deficit of 122 runs and there are a couple of days left in this Dunedin match. Pakistan would be looking for some weather intervention to keep New Zealand away from a victory.
New Zealand resumed Day 3 at 404 for 8 and could add a further 25 runs before getting bowled out. Mohammad Asif finished with 4 for 108 in 34 overs. Pakistan in their first innings got off to a bad start when Khurram Manzoor dragged his forcing shot onto his stumps off Chris Martin in the 4th over. By lunch, Pakistan lost their other opener Imran Farhat who challenged an lbw decision through a review but in vain. Martin was again the successful bowler to take this wicket and Pak went to lunch at 50 for 2.
Pakistan had more trouble in store in the afternoon session as they lost three more wickets to put New Zealand in a winning position. Shane Bond bowled at his very best to pick the wickets of Skipper Mohammad Yousuf (17), Fawad Alam (29) and Shoaib Malik (2) in the space of around 4 overs. Yousuf played an uppish drive back to Bond who came up with a forward diving catch. Fawad Alam and Shoaib Malik both fell to rising deliveries.
At 85 for 5, the Kiwis were right on top of Pakistan but the Akmal brothers had different ideas. Umar Akmal initiated the counter attack by slogging Vettori over mid wicket for a six and his older brother Kamran joined the fight in same vein. For the next 40 overs or so, the Kiwi attack was put to sword before Kamran Akmal threw his wicket by giving the charge to Vettori but only to edge his big shot to slip. The wicket keeper batsman scored a superb 82 from 136 balls with 11 fours and a six.
Towards the fag end of the day’s play, Umar Akmal got dismissed getting caught at deep point after a brilliant 129 (from 160 balls with 21 fours and 2 sixes). Vettori rounded off the day with the wicket of Umar Gul.
