WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange demanded the complete removal of every United States leader, from the lowest government official all the way to the highest office, for their involvement in spying on UN officials including the resignation of President Barack Obama.

The whole chain of command who was aware of this order, and approved it, must resign if the US is to be seen to be credible nation that obeys the rule of law, Assange told an Australian newspaper through an internet phone call. The order is so serious it may well have been put to the president for approval. Obama should say what he knew about this illegal order and when he knew it. If he refuses to answer or provide no evidence that approved those actions, he should resign.

Staff Report

ISLAMABAD: Defending PCO judges in contempt of court case, Advocate Ali Zafar has argued that a High Court judge is not bound to take advice from the Supreme Court.

A five-member Supreme Court bench headed by Justice Sair Ali is hearing this case.

Justice Yasmin Abbasi’s counsel Ali Zafar said that his client had not received a restraining order issued by the Supreme Court on November 3, 2007.

“Even if my client had received this order, she was not bound to abide by it as this was merely interim advice,” he said.

He said that High Court judges are not bound to abide by apex court’s advice.

Referring to Zafar Ali Shah’s case, he argued that PCO oath was not unconstitutional.

The ruling given by the 12-member bench in Zafar Ali Shah’s case could not be struck down by a seven-judge bench, he added. Trend Pk

T-Series not affected by royalty fixed by Copyright Board

Copyright Board, in an order dated 25.08.2010, had fixed the rate of royalty between PPL and 6 FM radio broadcasters. But certain misconceptions and rumours in the industry hinted that the same royalty shall be applied for the entire industry including Super Cassettes Industries Limited (T-SERIES).

Therefore in a writ petition filed by Super Cassettes Industries Limited (T-SERIES) against the order passed on 25.08.2010 clarified the situation as the Hon’ble High Court of Delhi has on 15.09.2010 in its interim order clarified that the rates fixed by the Copyright Board shall not apply to Super Cassettes Industries Limited (T-SERIES).
Therefore this squashes all rumours that the copyright order passed by Copyright Board is only against PPL and not against T-Series or any other copyright owner.

T-Series-MD, Mr Bhushan Kumar, made a public statement regarding the court’s order saying, “We at Super Cassettes Industries are pleased with the clarification given by the Hon’ble High Court of Delhi in its interim order. We have granted voluntary license to (almost) all broadcasters in India. We are glad that our voluntary licenses will not get disturbed by the order in a proceeding where we were not even a party.”

Global stock markets dive on China, Spain concerns

LONDON: World stock markets sank on Thursday as weak Chinese data sparked fresh fears about the global economy on the first day of the third quarter, amid deep concern about Spain”s sovereign debt rating.

In morning deals, London lost 1.27 percent, Frankfurt fell 1.07 percent and Paris shed 1.95 percent on the back of mounting economic jitters.

Madrid tumbled by more than 3.0 percent after international ratings agency Moody”s put Spanish government debt on review for a possible downgrade late on Wednesday, stoking eurozone debt crisis jitters.

However, the Madrid market clawed back ground later on Thursday to show a loss of 1.8 percent, after a successful debt bond placing.

“The FTSE opened in desperate fashion this morning on the news that China”s manufacturing growth has slowed and Spain”s sovereign debt problems have intensified,” said IG Index senior sales trader Yusuf Heusen.

Asian stocks also fell heavily on the Chinese data and global economic fears, despite growing business confidence in Japan.

Manufacturing activity in China slowed in June, official and independent surveys showed Thursday, suggesting that government efforts to cool the fast-growing economy are working.

The HSBC China Manufacturing PMI, or purchasing managers index, fell to 50.4 last month from 52.7 in May, the bank said. A reading above 50 means the sector is expanding, while below 50 indicates an overall decline.

A separate survey released by a government agency on Thursday showed manufacturing activity slowed to 52.1 in June from 53.9 in May.

“Investors continued to sell risky asset classes and pull their money out of stocks, fearing a wider equity decline after poor Chinese manufacturing data show signs of slowing growth,” said City Index analyst Joshua Raymond.

“The slowing Chinese manufacturing data, which was worse than expected, is the main driver behind today”s weakness in the miners with investors now fearing that slowing growth in China could impact on metal demand and company earnings.”

Spain successfully placed debt bonds to borrow 3.5 billion euros for five years, a bond expert said.

The Spanish government borrowed the equivalent of 4.3 billion dollars, at an average yield or interest rate of 3.657 percent, the bond strategist said.

In reaction, the European single currency rose to 1.2279 dollars in morning London trade, compared with 1.2228 late in New York on Wednesday.

“The markets” relief at a successful Spanish auction has boosted the euro in the short term,” said CMC Markets analyst Michael Hewson.

“However, any upside will continue to remain limited while concern over solvency of European banks continues to weigh on the market.”

Elsewhere in Asian stock markets, Sydney lost 1.49 percent, closing at the lowest in 11 months, and Singapore dipped 0.48 percent. Hong Kong was closed for a public holiday.

And Tokyo slumped 2.04 percent to finish at 9,191.60 points, its lowest since November 2009, despite a central bank announcement that Japanese business confidence had reached its highest level in two years.

Japan”s index of sentiment among major manufacturers rose for a fifth straight quarter to one point in June from minus 14 in March, according to the closely watched Tankan survey.

“A better-than-expected Tankan survey in Japan was overshadowed by Moody”s announcement that it may cut Spain”s credit rating,” said Rabobank analysts in a note to clients.

In New York on Wednesday, stocks fell owing to poor employment data and jitters about Europe, capping Wall Street”s worst quarterly performance in more than a year.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average slid 0.98 percent to end Wednesday at 9,774.02, a day after Wall Street shares slipped more than two percent and below the psychologically-sensitive 10,000 level.

The Dow has fallen 3.5 percent in June and for the quarter it fared even worse — losing 10 percent — the worst quarterly loss since its 13 percent drop in the first quarter of 2009.

Well, now we can say it for sure. The original Law & Order TV show has been cancelled after 20 years. No special last episode, no beating Gunsmoke’s record, and no season 21. What the heck happened?

Created by Dick Wolf, Law & Order was revolves around NYPD crime investigations and the trials that follow. The current performers include Jeremy Sisto, Anthony Anderson, S. Epatha Merkerson, Linus Roache, Alana de la Garza, and Sam Waterston.

If you look merely at the ratings. Law & Order should been cancelled awhile ago but it’s produced in-house and is lucrative in syndication. Last spring, Wolf reportedly made concessions to NBC so that the show could stay on the air in order to tie Gunsmoke’s number of seasons on the air.

A few months ago, NBC entertainment president Anglea Bromstad said that she intended to renew it for year 21. It was later revealed that NBC really needed TNT to pick up the additional episodes in syndication to help with the production costs. TNT already has 20 seasons of episodes to draw from and the agreement stipulates NBC couldn’t shop season 21 elsewhere.

According to Deadline, NBC had told Wolf in March that they would negotiate a new agreement with TNT to include financing for some new episodes. Supposedly, NBC opted not to do that.

Deadline.com broke the news regarding the cancellation of Law and Order after 20 seasons. NBC has declined to comment on the report. In its 20th season, Law & Order ties Gunsmoke for the longest running drama in the history of TV. NBC Entertainment president Angela Bromstad had said earlier in the year that she did not want to be the one who had to cancel the show, but due to poor ratings that may end up being the case.
SVU, however, will likely be returning next season. “Law & Order:Los Angeles,” a west coast version of the show is also in the works and will likely appear sometime in 2010 or 2011 as well. Deadline.com also reported that NBC is taking a serious look at “Garza,” which is a show produced by Conan O’Brien’s company Conaco, the show will reportedly star Jimmy Smits as a Supreme Court justice who gives up his seat to return to private practice.
