Two dead, 12 hurt in Swat blast

SWAT: At least two persons were killed and 12 others injured in a powerful explosion in Mingora area of Sohrab Khan Chawk in Swat, Geo News reported Saturday.

MS Saidu Sharif Hospital Lal Noor said at least 12 injured have been brought to the hospital; of them, three are in critical state, who have been sent to operation theater.

The blast occurred in a large market situated near Sohrab Khan Chawk in Mingora. The injured have been rushed to Saidu Sharif Hospital.

The huge plumes of smoke are billowing from the blast site.

The sources are unable to confirm the about the nature of the blast; however, they said clues are indicating it to be suicidal. However, other security sources are quoted to be saying that the bomb was planted in the plaza.

The blast was so powerful that several shops were destroyed. Police and other law enforcement agencies put a security cordon around the blast site.

It should be mentioned that Green Chawk, where a suicide bomber was arrested minutes before the blast and Sohrab Khan Chawk are two busiest points in the city.

Earlier today, the security forces received tip-off regarding the presence of two bombers in the area. On was arrested from Green Chawk; however, the other one managed to blow him up at Sohrab Chawk, 100 meters away from Green Chawk.

PM Gilani Meets President Hu Jintao

BEIJING: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Tuesday met Chinese President HU Jintao to discuss bilateral relations.

Prime Minister Gilani during the meeting will invite China for investment in Pakistan. The two leaders will also discuss regional peace and fighting against terrorism.

Earlier in a meeting with a delegation Gilani stressed the need for greater cooperation between the defence industries of Pakistan and China as an important step to fortify the all-weather strategic partnership.

The Prime Minister expressed these views in his meeting with Chen Qiufa, Administrator of China’s State Administration for Science, Technology and Industry for National Defence (SASTIND) who led a delegation of China’s defence-related companies.

Prime Minister Gilani told the delegation that Pakistan attached great importance to its relations with China and wanted to further expand and promote bilateral cooperation particularly in the field of defence production.

Terror Rule Ends in Malakand: CM NWFP

Talking to tribal elders at Matta Hoti said that his government will not take a sigh of relief without crushing the last terrorist from the region.

HOti said the masses, people’s representatives, military and other security forces jointly fighting against terrorists.

“Still some pockets of terrorists exist in the region,” he added.
