Airplane slips off runway at Ottawa airport

OTTAWA: A United Airlines jet operated under the banner United Express slid off the runway in heavy rain at the Ottawa airport, injuring the pilot, the airport authority told AFP on Wednesday.
“At 2:30 p.m. local time, we were notified that an Embraer aircraft slid off the runway,” airport authority spokeswoman Krista Kealey said.
The flight with 33 passengers and three crew onboard originated from Dulles airport in the US capital, Washington.
“None of the passengers were seriously hurt, but the pilot suffered minor injuries, and is being transfered to hospital,” Kealey said, adding the passengers had sinced cleared customs.
Paramedics and fire crews were at the scene. An investigation into the accident would be conducted, Kealey said.

Pascal Dupuis scored 9:56 into overtime for the Pittsburgh Penguins, who rallied from a three-goal deficit to oust the Ottawa Senators from the postseason with a 4-3 win in game six.Matt Cooke scored his second of the game with 7:36 left in the third period to tie it 3-3. Bill Guerin also scored in the third, a period in which Pittsburgh outshot Ottawa 18-4.
Matt Cullen and Daniel Alfredsson each had a goal and an assist for Ottawa, who led 3-0 in the second period.
Ottawa won game five at Pittsburgh in triple overtime to stave off elimination. The Senators hoped to force a decisive game seven back in Pittsburgh.
Dupuis made sure a return trip wouldn’t be necessary. He took Jordan Staal’s pass from the left corner and fired a shot past goaltender Pascal Leclaire for the winner.
Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 28 shots as the Penguins won for the eighth time in nine playoff series after they were eliminated by Ottawa three years ago.
