LOS ANGELES: She is already the most influential woman on television, publishes a magazine, has starred in movies, opened a school in South Africa and is one of America”s biggest celebrity philanthropists.
So why is Oprah Winfrey taking perhaps the biggest gamble in her life and launching a cable TV network this weekend? Because she believes people are hungry for shows that entertain, inspire and offer what she calls “mindful television.”
“What I want to do is build a channel that is a respite for your mind, an oasis of stimulation that you come away from with little pieces of light.
“I”m aiming for a moment where somebody could say, ”I never thought of it that way before.” I just love that,” Winfrey 56, told Parade magazine in an interview this week.
Three years in the making, the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) kicks off on January 1 with a weekend of “sneak peeks” into the array of largely female-oriented original series, lifestyle, and advice shows that viewers can expect in the first year.
OWN, a venture between Winfrey”s Harpo Inc and Discovery Communications, will be available in some 80 million homes.
The OWN launch has brought with it some uncharacteristic anxiety for Winfrey, who will end her popular U.S. daytime chat program, “The Oprah Winfrey Show” — which airs in some 140 countries — in May after 25 years.
She told her magazine “O” that she has “never felt such fear in all my life” than she has in launching OWN in a crowded TV market packed with hundreds of cable channels.

North Korea: Special parade held at 65th North Korean anniversary
North Korea has begun three days of celebrations to mark 65 years since the founding of the country’s Communist Workers’ Party. On this occasion a special arrangement of a military parade was also organised.
The festivities, which culminate in a massive military parade in capital, Pyongyang, on Sunday, are not only to mark the anniversary of communist rule. North Korean officials are expected to use the weekend’s celebrations to declare the historic handover of power from ailing leader Kim Jong-il to his son and heir apparent, Kim Jong-un. Chiefs of all three armed forces also participated in this parade.

Watch The Karate kid (2010) Online Free – The Karate Kid is back! When I first heard the news that there will be a remake of the 1984 hit movie, I can’t help myself but reminisce and smile. The original Karate Kid (Ralph Macchio) is my ultimate crush when I was a bit younger and the Karate Kid movie is one of my all-time favorite films.
When the remake of the Karate Kid was announced way back 2008, I was so excited with the movie, not only for the reason that it reconnects me with my childhood memories but also because it stars Jackie Chan.
The Karate Kid 2010 remake loosely follows the plot of the original Karate Kid but with a little twist to make it more authentic.
Staring in The Karate Kid (2010) are Jaden Smith as the Karate Kid – Dre Parker, Jackie Chan as Mr. Han, Taraji P. Henson as Sherry Parker, Yu Rongguang as Master Li, Ming Xu as Bao, Ji Wang as Mrs. Po and many others. The movie is directed by Harald Zwart. The “new” Karate Kid, Jaden Smith is the son of award winning actor Will Smith. That is why when another Karate Kid hit the box office there wasn’t so much of excitement in the industry. But those who knew about the film are well impressed by the storyline. They say this recycle may work this time. However, it is too early to jump to any conclusion. They will wait and watch the response the film gets from the audiences. This time at the centre of attraction is the 11-year-old actor Jaden Smith.

ufc 115

I’ll understand if you skip this card. Really, I will. You were probably one of the million people to pay for UFC 114 two weeks ago. Brock Lesnar and Shane Carwin face off at UFC 116 on July 3rd. These are big important PPV’s and UFC 115 is going to get lost in the fold. If you are going to spring for the card, keep your fingers crossed. Remember, some of the best overall shows are the ones that you think are going to suck. So it’s got that going for it, which is nice.

Having said that, this is not a strong card. This was supposed to be the TUF coaches fight between Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz. That at least would have produced a little juice for the event. I guess. Chuck has already beaten Tito twice and that was back when both guys were among the UFC’s best. Rich Franklin has stepped in and he’s a good fighter and a legend in the sport, but there’s no storyline between he and Chuck.
The main event would have been huge three years ago. Rich Franklin was the top contender at 185 and Chuck Liddell held the belt at 205 pounds. Since then Franklin has lost 3 of 6 and Liddell 4 of 5. The crazy thing is, either of these guys could conceivably put together a run at the light heavyweight belt. Shogun Rua just had knee surgery and he’s going to be on the shelf for a while. When he does come back, he’s probably not going to look very good. Knee surgeries and MMA don’t go well together.

The City of Chicago hosted the victory parade and rally for the Chicago Blackhawks’ win of the Stanley Cup on June 11, 2010. Mayor Daley spoke a the rally and introduced Blackhawks owner Rocky Wirtz.
ABC provided local coverage of the event with had a massive crowd cheering the hockey players wildly. According to ABC, the size of the crowd is difficult to estimate, but the parade and rally attracted about two million people.
The mood was festive as the Chicago sports fans cheered and waved at the red double decker buses in the parade and at the rally in downtown Chicago. As the Stanley Cup was carried through the crowd, fans reached out to touch the trophy.

The Stanley Cup trophy is historic, because the trophy goes to the winning team each year, meaning that the hands of many hockey champions have handled that very trophy.
Congratulations to the Blackhawks.

FANNY BRICE ( Rain on my parade )
Don’t tell me not to live, just sit and putter
Life’s candy and the sun’s a ball of butter
Don’t bring around a cloud to rain on my parade
Don’t tell me not to fly, I simply got to
If someone takes a spill, it’s me and not you
Who told you you’re allowed to rain on my parade
I’ll march my band out, I’ll beat my drum
And if I’m fanned out, your turn at bat, sir
At least I didn’t fake it, hat, sir
I guess I didn’t make it
But whether I’m the rose of sheer perfection
A freckle on the nose of life’s complexion
The Cinderella or the shine apple of its eye
I gotta fly once, I gotta try once,
Only can die once, right, sir?
Ooh, life is juicy, juicy and you see,
I gotta have my bite, sir.
Get ready for me love, ’cause I’m a “comer”
I simply gotta march, my heart’s a drummer
Don’t bring around the cloud to rain on my parade,
I’m gonna live and live NOW!
Get what I want, I know how!
One roll for the whole shebang!
One throw that bell will go clang,
Eye on the target and wham,
One shot, one gun shot and bam!
Hey, Mr. Arnstein, here I am …
I’ll march my band out, I will beat my drum,
And if I’m fanned out, your turn at bat, sir,
At least I didn’t fake it, hat, sir,
I guess I didn’t make it
Get ready for me love, ’cause I’m a “comer”
I simply gotta march, my heart’s a drummer
Nobody, no, nobody, is gonna rain on my parade!
