”TTP commander Ameerullah Mehsud killed”
PESHAWAR: Pakistan said Monday that a Taliban commander with a 234,000-dollar price on his head had been killed in a shootout with soldiers in North Waziristan region.
The military said Ameerullah Mehsud was one of the top commanders in the Pakistani Taliban.
He also went by the alias of Qari Gud, which means “the man who limps”, and Mazloomyar, which means “friend of the oppressed” in the Pashtu language.
Mehsud was reportedly shot dead at a checkpoint in Miranshah, the main town of North Waziristan.
“His head money was 20 million rupees (234,000 dollars). Two soldiers were also wounded in the shootout,” the military said in a statement. The gunbattle took place in Miranshah on Sunday, it added.
Mehsud was listed 11 out of 19 most-wanted Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) commanders for whom the government last November posted combined rewards worth five million dollars for information leading to their capture, dead or alive.
He was wanted for attacking security forces, kidnapping for ransom and “other anti-state activities,” it added.
Pakistan said he was TTP commander for Makeen and Razmak, a Taliban stronghold in South Waziristan.
It was not immediately clear whether anyone would be rewarded in connection with Mehsud”s death.

LAHORE: Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Aslam Tareen has said that six of a militant group involved in attacks on Ahmadi worship places, Parade Lane attack in Rawalpindi, attack on Youm-e-Ashur procession in Karachi last year and many others have been arrested.
He was addressing a press conference in Police Lines here today.
Huge quantity of weaponry and explosive was also recovered from them, he added. ‘They belonged to Harkat-e-Jihad-ul-Islami and Fazal Mehsud Group.’

RAWALPINDI, Pakistan News: The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani today visited Combined Military Hospital (CMH). He inquired about the health and well being of wounded of yesterday’s attack on Parade Lane Mosque. COAS reiterated that such acts of cowardice will not dent the resolve of the Armed Forces and the Nation to fight against terrorism.

RAWALPINDI, Pakistan News: At least 45 people were hurt in a suicide attack in a mosque at Peshawar Road area here Friday.

According to preliminary reports, a suicide bomber blew himself up in Parade Lane Mosque situated near Qasim Market of Westridge area soon after Jumma prayer.
The blast was followed by the firing by security personnel deputed at the mosque in which two attackers were killed, the channel reported citing police officials.
Police and army troops arrived at the scene and cordoned off the area soon after the firing while more contingents of law enforcers have been summoned at the scene. The incident occurred near the office of an intelligence agency, it was reported.
Footage shows several ambulances entering in a heavily-fortified military installation surrounded by army troops and policemen.
