PTI’s Islamabad sit-in attracts large gathering

The sit-in has been started before Iftari today (Saturday).

Talking to the participants, Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) Chief Imran Khan said that the PPP as well as the PML-N were deceiving the masses and the inefficient rulers had led the country to the brink of destruction. He further said that political mafia was behind the Karachi violence and it should be stooped.

He said that presence of people showed that had rejected the present government and they desired such leadership which would pull out them from crisis. He stated that after come in power, he would take every step to end poverty, unemployment and to bring inflation down.

He stressed that the PTI was only a party which could provide relief to the poor. We will bring to justice to corrupt leadership with the help of the nation, he added.

Cabinet committee rebukes release of WikiLeaks

In the meeting of Defence Committee of the Cabinet (DCC) under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, the participants condemned the release of WikiLeaks cables and called it an attempt to spoil the image of Pakistan. Strategy of PMs Afghanistan visit was also finalized in the meeting.

The PM was briefed about the overall situation in Swat and North Waziristan and Kashmir issue also came under discussion. The committee demanded to solve Kashmir dispute as per resolutions of the UN. It emphasized to establish peace in Afghanistan as early as possible. The PM congratulated Army Chief and General Wyne and lauded efforts of Pak army to contain terrorism in the country.

Lahore: Seeds of Peace successfully carries out first mock parliament

Seeds of Peace (a non-profit, non-religious and non-political organization dedicated to preparing teenagers from areas of conflict with the leadership skills required to promote coexistence and peace), successfully carried out its first Mock Parliament event. The purpose of the Mock Parliament was to replicate the structure and working of our neighboring country. Pakistani Seeds thus organized this event on the 22nd-24th of October 2010 at FCC, Lahore . A group of 28 students from 10 different schools took part as MPs of the Indian Lok Sabha. The proceedings of Day 1 were to enact the election process of the Parliament. After electing the new speaker, PM and their speeches, MPs from various parliamentary parties including but not limited to INC, BJP, Shiv Sena addressed the House. Day 2 and 3 witnessed enthusiastic students having an intense general debate between the government and the opposition, highlighting the major issues faced by India: Territorial issues, economic problems, Kashmir, Naxalsim, and Maoist Movements. This parliament allowed students to learn negotiation skills and how to reach workable and practical compromises. All in all, this event was able to achieve its aim, which was the recognition of Indian issues along with the learning of parliamentary protocols. Prof. Alivna Waseem (Coordinator FCC Debating Society) gave away the certificates among the participants. Some educators and students from India also witnessed the event. Sajjad Ahmad, President Seeds of Peace, Lahore thanked the participants and their parents for their positive contribution and hoped that such activities will continue.

MQM all set to take out rally for Dr. Aafia’s release amid stern security

KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) is all set to take out a grand rally for the release of Dr. Afia amid very stern security arrangements by Sindh Police on Tuesday.

Police have finalized security arrangements for the rally, which can start any moment in the second half in Karachi.

According to police sources, more than 2,500 policemen and dozens of other high officials with a large fleet of police mobiles have been placed at different places of the rally’s route.

Among the officials who have been assigned rally security duty are 12 SHO’s of Saddar Town and eight DSPs. More than 36 police mobiles will move along with the rally.

As per the security plan, the Bomb Disposal Squad sealed the whole area at 1:00pm after a thorough search.

Al Quds rally leader Syed Hashim Moosvi arrested

QUETTA: After failure to arrest the perpetrators of the Quetta terror attack, police arrested Majlis Wahdat-ul-Muslimeen leader Allama Syed Hashim Moosvi.

At least 68 people were killed and over 100 wounded when a suicide bomber ripped through an Al Quds rally in Quetta on September 3, 2010.

The attacked rally was being led by Allama Syed Hashmi Moosvi.

Quetta police chief, Abid Hussain Notkani, said that Allama Moosvi would be interrogated about the suicide attack.

Police alleged that the participants of the rally had reached Meezan Chowk, despite instructions not to go there.

According to police sources, apart from Allama Moosvi, two other unknown persons were arrested in connection with the September 3 attack. SAMAA

President Zardari, PM Gilani chair Sindh cabinet meeting

KARACHI: President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani have chaired a meeting of the Sindh cabinet on Sunday.

The officials of the Sindh Irrigation Department briefed President Zardari and PM Gilani about the damages and devastations caused by the recent floods in the province.

The irrigation officials, contradictory to the ground realities, informed the participants of meeting that no dyke has been breached deliberately.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah presented a road map of the rehabilitation of flood victims and also gave a detailed briefing on the post flood situation in Sindh. SAMAA

MQM leader laid to rest

KARACHI: MQM leader Raza Haider was laid to rest at the martyrs graveyard in Yaeenabad.

Earlier, the funeral prayers of Raza Haider and his gunman Muhammad Khalid were held at Jinnah Ground in Azizabad.

A large number of Muttahida Qaumi movement leaders, party workers and other citizens attended the prayers. The funeral prayers observed under stringent security and the participants were being allowed entry in Jinnah Ground after thorough search.

Unknown assailants had gunned down Raza Haider and his gunman in a mosque on Monday where he came to offer funeral prayers of a relative.

Karachi Police Chief Wasim Ahmad said 10 walk through gates were established at entry routes of Jinnah Ground whereas separate route was established for VIPs. Aerial vigilance was also carried out at the route of funeral procession and graveyard, he added.

Footballer Mesha Daud among plane crash victims

ISLAMABAD: Renowned national female footballer Mesha Daud was also among those 152 passengers aboard on Air blue’s plane, which met deadly crash in Islamabad on Wednesday morning, Geo News reported.

She was hailing from Karachi and was flying to Islamabad for participation in 6th National Women Football Championship (NWFC) due to be held in Islamabad from today.

The sad demise of Mesha has left the participants deeply saddened.

19-year-old Mesha would play from Dia Club in Karachi. She could not accompany her teammates due to studies and was heading to join them but the tragic national disaster did the otherwise.

She was to play a match against Punjab team today but life did not permit her.

For her memorial, her teammates observed silence for a minute before commencement of match.

Her fellow footballers said they would remember Mesha all life long and also named their first match of the championship in her memory.
