David Dhawan shelves Amar Akbar Anthony, starts work on Partner 2

Salman Khan’s ambitious plans to bring all the three Khan brothers together in a modernized remake of Manmohan Desai’s Amar Akbar Anthony has fallen through.
While most other problems of remaking such a popular film could be surmounted, the one hurdle that no one could find a way out of was to make Salman step into the Big B’s shoes without looking presumptuous.
The Khans and David Dhawan had planned to cast Arbaaz, Sohail and Salman as Amar (played originally by Vinod Khanna), Akbar (played by Rishi Kapoor in Desai’s film) and Anthony (played by the Big B). While re-casting the first two actors was a breeze, getting Salman to do the Big B’s role proved impossible.
Apparently, Salman himself begged off from the huge responsibility.
Admitting that the remake of Amar Akbar Anthony is now a dead project, David says, “It was just impossible to do it again. Can you imagine anyone else except Mr. Bachchan as Anthony Gonsalves? It’s role he has made his own for as long as time exists.”
With Amar Akbar Anthony shelved, the sequel to the 2007 blockbuster Partner is now being revived by the Khans in right earnestness.
A story idea has finally been cracked and Partner 2 is to go on the floors early next year in lieu of Amar Akbar Anthony.
Dhawan admits Partner 2 is on the way, “We’ve got an idea and we’re developing it. While the core cast of Salman and Govinda will remain all the other actors will change.”

I’m an Embarrassment: Mischa Barton

Former “O.C.” actress Mischa Barton says she is a terrible date because she is clumsy and embarrassing to go out with.
Barton said she is so clumsy she would make a terrible date and that her awkward antics attract unwanted attention from the paparazzi.
“I’m ridiculously clumsy, you’d never want to date me, I’m an embarrassment. I wouldn’t even know where to start telling you the things I’ve walked into. I think that’s why the photographers love me, I’m constantly bruising myself or grazing my knees,” she said.
Despite admitting she is clumsy, the 23-year-old who has dated a string of famous men, including singers Luke Pritchard and Johnny Borrell insists none have ever ditched her.
“I’ve never been dumped. One tried to make it quite mutual though so that felt as close to dumping as I’ve got. I kind of lost it and was like, ‘You are not turning this on me. I dumped you first’,” she said.

Pakistan hara-kiri lets Kiwis win Cool and Cool Cup
Pakistan batsmen gave a perfect example of how to lose an easy match in the third and final ODI at Abu Dhabi. New Zealand too did the same, almost losing the match towards the end but just managed to scrape through with a 7-run win. Set to chase only 212 on a perfect batting strip, Pakistan from a solid 47 for no loss slipped to 86 for 8 in the 24th over and after 10 overs of scratching around from Umar Gul, it became 101 for 9. The match was expected to be over in a matter of 10 minutes but instead it was an unbelievable 10th wicket partnership of 103 between Aamer and Ajmal that almost pulled off a miraculous victory for Pakistan.
New Zealand won a crucial toss and elected to bat first. They were setting themselves nicely for the 300-mark after a lovely opening start of 72 in 11.3 overs. Redmond’s slash at thirdman finally got some smiles in the Pakistani fielders. Off spinner Saeed Ajmal made it 88 for 2 when he forced a leading edge from Martin Guptill in the 17th over. It was the turn of the Kiwis to fight back and they did it through a 50-run stand between Brendon McCullum and Ross Taylor. Shoaib Malik broke the partnership when he got a return catch from the dangerous McCullum (76 from 78 balls with 6 fours and 3 sixes).
Pakistan were red hot in the middle overs with the spin trio of Ajmal, Afridi and Malik bowling plenty of dot balls to pile up the pressure on the Kiwis. The batsmen too were not good enough to get their bats down on time to block some deadly quicker ones. New Zealand out of nowhere, from 138 for 3 slipped to 198 for 9. They finished with a disappointing 211 all out in 46.3 overs. Ross Taylor scored 44 from 69 before he played across the line to get lbw to Ajmal. Broom was lbw to a skidding googly from Afridi. Skipper Vettori and Jacob Oram were both lbw to Ajmal’s quick skidding deliveries that came back with the arm. Saeed Ajmal bowled a magic spell indeed with 4 for 33 in his 10 overs. Shoaib Malik did a good job along with Afridi at a time when Ajmal left the field due to cramps.
Pakistan got off to a solid start, with 47 on the board in over 8 overs. Vettori had to bring himself in early and he provided the opening by striking the pad of Khalid Latif (19). In the 11th over, an out-of-form and a totally nervous Younis Khan ran out a well set Salman Butt (25). A ball later, the Pakistani Captain got dismissed for 3 from 16 balls after edging an away going one off Bond. Pakistan were now on the backfoot at 51 for 3 and the Kiwis were smart enough to control the match after this.
A series of short balls brought the wicket of Shoaib Malik which was followed up with three big wickets that of Umar Akmal (edging a cut shot), Shahid Afridi (edging a booming drive on the up) and Kamran Akmal (playing a horrendous pull shot). The last hope – Abdul Razzaq was run out and Pakistan were embarassed at 86 for 8. The Black Caps had to wait about 10 overs before they could get rid off Umar Gul off a pick up shot to deep mid wicket.
The match did not finish quickly as expected as the 10th wicket pair of Aamer and Ajmal could succeed in prolonging it further and further. Aamer started a possible fightback with three slog sweeps for three sixes off Vettori. The left hander never looked in trouble and even played a glorious inside out cover drive off Shane Bond. Along with Ajmal, he brought the target down unknowingly and moments later, Pakistan were nervously inching towards a victory with just 13 more needed to win from the final two overs. Aamer was confident having got past a maiden ODI fifty but his partner Ajmal left him down in the end after hooking in the air to fine leg in the first ball of the last over with Pakistan needing 8 runs to win off 6 balls.
Saeed Ajmal was dismissed for 33 (from 44 balls with 2 fours) while his partner Mohammad Aamer was the hero with an unbeaten 73 from 81 balls with 7 fours and 3 sixes. They almost robbed what could have been a famous victory for Pakistan in the end and leaving Vettori furious. For New Zealand, the best bowler was Jacob Oram with 3 for 20 in 9.1 overs but the opening in the match was certainly given by Vettori and Bond. Aamer got the Man of the Match for his all-round efforts while Brendon McCullum was given the Player of the Series.

So You Think You Can Dance Flash
So You Think You Can Dance Flash, We head to the Big Easy tonight on “So You Think You Can Dance” after last night’s flashing excitement, and New Orleans doesn’t disappoint, ya heard? (Unless you were expecting another flasher, that is.) I was particularly excited to see a couple styles new to the show. Nigel is off getting an honorary doctorate (in very fancy robes), so instead we’re joined by Adam Shankman and Lil’ C.
The Vegas-bound:
Shelby “Skip” Skipper/20/New Orleans Bounce – This style is basically the hip hop version of Riverdance in that while the legs are going crazy, the torso is mostly just providing backup support. There’s also much shaking of the torso, though, when the legs take a break. I’m exhausted just watching it. The judges all confess to being completely unfamiliar with the style, but they’re really digging it and appreciate Skip’s bringing it to their attention. I’m actually surprised by the Vegas ticket, though – I definitely thought he was a choreography candidate since that’s the route they often go with non-contemporary dancers.
Jonathan Litzler/18/Contemporary – Jonathan is a crazy good tumbler, but it doesn’t take away from his dancing at all. And honestly, this seems like one of those auditions that would be better to see in person. Adam actually calls it one of the best auditions he’s ever seen. Lil’ C is back to himself after taking the night off yesterday, calling Jonathan “a perfect blend of weight, energy, space, and time.” …So there you have it.
Justin Kenney/23/Breakdance – Justin survived a serious car accident, but we don’t need the sob story: his dancing speaks for itself. In fact, I can barely describe it! He does some amazing moves where he’s upside down on his hands pushing off into the air and spinning (”air flares”), and he’s off to the choreography round, where he unfortunately struggles. But they “take a huge, huge gamble” on him, and send him on to Vegas.
Kimalee Piedad/25/Ice Dancing With No Ice (”Theater Arts”) – Okay, seriously, these lifts are bananas. B-A-N-A-N-A-S. She and her partner are incredibly strong, holding very challenging positions with no sign of strain at all. It’s extraordinary, and I’d love to see what they could do with a SYTYCD waltz (and what she could do on her own). I’m loving the new styles tonight!
Jakob Karr/18/Contemporary – You know, Jakob just looks like he belongs on the show. He’s expressive, he’s got great lines, a couple interesting tricks but not enough to distract from the dancing, and more strength than you’d expect from someone his size. The judges think he’s phenomenal. Yay!
Diana Drexler/29/Contemporary – Her grandfather passed away the previous day, while she was away to audition. She does a great job, even without considering the mitigating factors. It’s beautiful. Way to represent for folks in their late 20’s! The judges are impressed both by her dancing and her strength, and they put her through to choreography and Vegas. It’s not even based on pity, either!
The Rest:
Eric La Blanc/25/Hip hop – Well…he’s an entertainer. And a great cautionary tale about Red Bull overconsumption. So…yeah. That audition happened. And it made him dizzy. And it somehow got him through to choreography. You know, it’s all well and good putting someone through because you think it’ll be funny to watch, but that really sucks for his partner.
Micah Mixon/24/Hip hop – Let’s summarize: tough childhood -> rebellion -> dancing -> spiritual awakening. Got it? Okay, on to the dancing. He’s got potential, but it’s a bit too jerky for my tastes, and I think he’s a little sloppy and could be hitting harder (aside from the chest – I agree with Lil’ C on that one). I just wasn’t blown away. As Mary points out, his gliding was strong – why not do more of that? I’m no expert, though, and the judges were blown away and send him to choreography, where he crashes and burns. I hate to say I told you so, but…
Cheers and Jeers:
Cheers to the brass band entertaining the waiting contestants. Cheers to “Mary’s Rules of What Not to Do Starring Adam Shankman”: no hat over your eyes, no reaching out to nowhere, no rubbing your body, and no men’s booty shaking! Agreed on all counts. Jeers to the lack of Nigel. I know not everyone agrees with me, but I really think his comments can be instructive and illuminating. Well, at least some of the time…you know, when he’s not ogling the ladies.
