PPP, PML-Q leaders meet in Lahore, agree to confront PML-N

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PML-Q) have agreed to confront PML-N together. Dr.Babar Awan would convey the message of Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi to the President, after which the fate of second round of discussions between the two parties would be decided. Important progress has been made in terms of cooperation between the two parties during the meeting between Babar Awan and Pervaiz Elahi. Leadership of PML-Q has assured PPP of its unconditional support for the government in case of any move against it. Cooperation between the two parties would also be witnessed in Punjab.
According to the sources, Babar Awan would convey the message of Pervaiz Elahi to the President and in the next round of discussions between the two parties, high-level leadership from both sides would participate, including Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain. Sources have also revealed that PML-Q has given some positive indications for power sharing with PPP.
Opposition leader in the Punjab assembly, Chaudhry Zaheer-Ud-Din has said that PPP government should complete its five-year tenure and that PML-Q would not be a part of any move against PPP government. Senator of PML-Q Kamil Ali Agha has said that Mian Nawaz Sharif is following an illegal and unconstitutional path for the change of government. He also vowed to side PPP in case of any misadventure against the government.
Leaders of the ruling party PPP (Pakistan Peoples Party) and PML-Q have net in Lahore, Dunya News reported on Monday.
Dr. Babar Awan called on Pervaiz Elahi and discussed matters of mutual concern as well as the current situation of the country. They also discussed the possibilities of cooperation between the two parties. Speaking on the occasion Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi said that PML-Q would not be a part of any conspiracy against democracy.
Earlier Dr. Babar Awan was welcomed by Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi at his residence in Lahore when he reached to meet him after a green signal from the President and after taking the prime minister into confidence. During the first round of meeting the two leaders met one on one but afterwards other leaders from both the parties joined them in the discussion. Babar Awan and Pervaiz Elahi agreed upon the fact that political leadership should exhibit nationalist thinking in the matters of national interest. They also laid emphasis on the existence of working relationship between all the political parties.
Addressing the media after the meeting, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi said that he believed in politics of principles. National issues should be resolved by sitting together. Speaking on the occasion Babar Awan said that the prestige of parliament and democracy are the consequences of graet sacrifices rendered for these objectives and now it is an obligation upon all of us to defend and safeguard these achievements.

The court has accepted the application filed by Federal Minister for Water and Power Raja Pervaiz Ashraf for his unavailability during the proceedings of the case due to his busy schedule. Nahid Khan and Shahzada Kausar Gillian were present when the case proceeding began under Civil judge Rai Afzal Kharal and Federal Minister for Water and Power Raja Pervaiz Ashraf arrived later in tight security to the court in Rawalpindi. The three of them have been convicted.
Later speaking to the media Raja Pervaiz said that he was unaware of the proceedings during that time, and his name was only included because he is a senior leader of PPP. Raja also said he was imprisoned for 9 months under the act of terrorism. Nahid Khan said that fake cases were prepared against her however she said she would prove that she has only been punished due to the fact that she is an important worker at the party.

Judge Syed Farrukh Hussain Shamsi issued the non-bailable arrest warrants of the federal minister, Shahzada Kosar Gilani and Muhammad Sabir workers of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) directing Airport Police to arrest them and produce before the court on November 7 after police submitted the accused could not be reached at their addresses.
The court has been conducting the trial of the accused after they were booked by Airport Police on December 23 1998 on the request of the Deputy Registrar of the LHC’s Rawalpindi bench.

The case was registered on charges of rioting, defamation, criminal intimidation, encountering and obstructing public servants after the accused misbehaved with the staff of the court when they were stopped to blacken the face of a government servant for recording his statement as witness against Benazir Bhutto and Asif Ali Zardari who had moved the LHC against the corruption proceedings against them by the then government.

In the same case close aide of Benazir Bhutto moved an application under section 249-A of CrPC seeking acquittal in the case saying she was dejectedly related with the case and there was nothing incriminating against her in the case.
