PESHAWAR: Member of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, Shakil Umarzai, was arrested on Friday after his protective pre-arrest bail plea was revoked by the Peshawar High Court (PHC).
Umarzai, who was elected on an ANP ticket from Charsadda, and his accomplices are accused of the murder of former provincial lawmaker and PPP-Sherpao leader, Alamzeb Umarzai.
Shakil had earlier got a pre-arrest bail from a lower court.
Alamzeb Umarzai’s brother submitted an application in PHC, seeking cancelation of Shakil Umarzai’s bail.
Hearing the case today, PHC rejected Umarzai’s bail, after which he was arrested. Trend Pk
Peshawar CJ terminates additional district & sessions judge

PESHAWAR: The Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court (PHC) has sacked Additional District and Sessions Judge Jan Mohammad on Wednesday.
According to the official announcement made by the Registrar of PHC, Jan Mohammad pressurized a judge in a case of his relative as a favor. Jan Mohammad has been sacked after an investigation into the matter. SAMAA
CJP calls meeting on security
Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has called a meeting of the chief justices of high courts to review measures taken for the security of top judicial functionaries.
The meeting is believed to have been convened because of a Punjab Special Branch report about an alleged plot to assassinate LHC Chief Justice Khawaja Muhammad Sharif who is reaching superannuation on Dec 8.
The meeting will be attended by Chief Justices Khwaja Mohammad Sharif of Lahore High Court, Sarmad Jalal Osmany of Sindh High Court, Ejaz Afzal Khan of Peshawar High Court and Qazi Faez Issa of Balochistan High Court.
COAS tenure extension challenged in PHC
PESHAWAR: The extension in service awarded to Chief of Army Staff Gen. Ashfaq Parvez Kayani has been challenged in Peshawar High Court (PHC).
Shahid Orakzai filed a writ petition against the extension of COAS tenure in PHC. The petitioner has adopted a stance that the in the wake of passage of the 18th amendment bill, the Prime Minister cannot hold direct consultation with the President.
The petition further said that under Article-243 of the Constitution, the Prime Minister is not competent to grant extension in service to the Army Chief on the basis of performance.
Shahid Orakzai prayed to the court to take notice of violation of the Constitution and called for the President to review the decision of extending Gen Kayani’s service as COAS.
CJP warns bar, bench not to lose earned respect
ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry Wednesday said people are looking towards bar and bench for resolution of their issues.
Talking to a delegation of District Bar Association Bannu that called on him here, the CJP warned the bench and bar not to let mutual disputes and strikes take away the respect earned.
Terming the bar and bench as important elements in the process of dispensation of justice, Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry advised that the bench and bar should bridge their differences immediately without resorting to come out on streets.
The lawyers delegation also briefed the CJP about the hardships being faced due to not having a bench of Peshawar High Court.
