Memo Commission seeks more time; SC to hear plea on Jan.30

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) has been moved to extend the timeframe designated to the three-member Memogate Commission mandated to investigate the alleged memorandum to the US government widely seen as a threat to national security.

The Secretary Commission has filed the petition seeking more time as the work is unlikely to be accomplished within the court-fixed deadline.

It should be mentioned here the court gave four weeks’ time to the commission which was set up on December 30 to ascertain the culpability and facts involved in the controversy.

A nine-member bench will hear the petition on January 30. TrendPK

Court rejects plea to stop action against Moonis as proclaimed offender

Moonis Elahi’s lawyer Anwarul Hassan Tarar maintained before the Additional Session Judge that Moonis Elahi was being made target of political rivalry and red warrants were issued illegally against him and now an attempt was being made to declare him proclaimed offender. The court rejected the petition about declaring Moonis a proclaimed offender and sought the reply from the FIA till February 12 for issuing red warrants against Moonis.

‘Sheila’, ‘Munni’ might face court ire!

ALLAHABAD: Indian Cinematography Act of 1952 may soon come on the way of smooth journey of ‘Munni Badnam Hui’ and ‘Sheila Ki Jawani’, which have been craze throughout the country. However, ‘Munni’ and ‘Sheila’ have now reached court premises. Thanks to a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by Nutan Thakur, who is an IPS officer’s wife.

23db0db186303 l.jpg ‘Sheila’, ‘Munni’ might face court ire!She has filed the PIL on Thursday at Allahabad High Court’s Lucknow bench. In this PIL, Mrs. Thakur alleged that Dabangg and Tees Maar Khan have shown obscenity through these two item numbers. Hence she has asked for deleting these two popular songs from the movies.

The PIL has sought action against Dabangg director, producer and co-producers. The petitioner has mentioned that they have violated some provisions of ‘Indian Cinematography Act of 1952’.

According to the petition, Dabangg and Tees Maar Khan have many immoral, indecent and vulgar songs, visual representations and dialogues. The petitioner has requested the court to direct the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and censor board to ask TV channels, cassette companies and filmmakers not to air the songs of these films.

The matter will heard in the court on January 3.

In the meantime, Tees Maar Khan is releasing across the country to make ‘Shiela Ki Jawani’ more popular.

BB murder case: Court grants bail to accused officers

Anti-Terrorism Court Rawalpindi Judge Rana Nisar Ahmed has approved the petition filed for bail of former City Police Officer Saud Aziz and former SP Khurram Shahzad in Shaheed Benazir Bhuttos murder case.

Earlier, both the officers appeared before the court and assured the latter of consistent appearance on orders and submitted Rs0.1million bonds. It merits to mention that FIA filed a petition in the court that BBs security officer CPO Saud Aziz changed her security at the eleventh hour, which caused her murder. While SP Khurran Shahzad told a court that Aziz forced him to change his duty venue.

LHC Throws out Plea Against Discretionary Powers

Lahore High Court declared a writ petition against discretionary powers of the President, Prime Minister, governors and chief ministers as non-maintainable on Thursday and dismissed the plea.

SC orders FIRs against fake degree holders

The Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) has ordered for FIRs to be lodged against the fake degree holders, Dunya News reported on Friday.
A three-member bench of the apex court heard the petition filed by the Secretary of the Election Commission of Pakistan. The bench was chaired by the Chief Justice of Pakistan Mr. Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry. Attorney General Maulvi Anwar ul Haq said that due to incomplete election commission of the country there are difficulties in acting against the fake degree holders. The Chief Justice responded that the peoples representation act is very clear in this regard. Any responsible officer of the election commission can submit request in the session court against the fraud.

Petroleum products’ price hike challenged in LHC

LAHORE: The recent price hike of the petroleum products has been challenged in the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday.

A local advocate, Matin-ul-Haque, has submitted the petition in the court. He has argued in the petition that the recent raise in the price of petroleum products is against the basic human rights.

He added that due to the ongoing general price hike in the country all basic necessary goods are going out of the purchase power of the commoner and this price increase of the petroleum products would rage a new storm of inflation.
