SC adjourns hearing of Balochistan killings till March 2
ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Friday adjourned hearing of a petition filed regarding Balochistan’s targeted killings and other crimes till March 2.
A three member bench, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry , heard the case. Home secretary and I.G Balochistan presented report regarding deteriorating situation of law and order in the province.
The chief justice said in his remarks that if the governor, chief minister, I.G and chief secretaries are not safe, then who will be safe!
The court suggested attorney general to meet the prime minister and tell him the real and full story of Balochistan and keep his comments in the record of the court. TrendPK
SC stays transfer of Gwadar Port land
KARACHI: The Supreme Court on Wednesday issued a stay order against the sale of Gwadar Port’s immovable property to private firms till further orders.
A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry ruled that the stay order will remain effective unless the court decides several petitions challenging a contract awarded to operate Gwadar Port.
The court also admitted for hearing a petition filed by the Balochistan government to become a party in this case.
In addition, the apex court expressed its annoyance over the government for acquiring services of private lawyers instead of Attorney General.

LHC Stays Amendment in Blasphemy Law
LAHORE, News Trends: Lahore High Court (LHC) prevented any amendment in Blasphemy law until the judicial ruling is finally out.
The court ruled on a petition filed by a citizen that no amendment be made in blasphemy law until the court delivers verdict on the case.
The court said the Law could not be presented at the National Assembly floor till the court decides a case on the topic.

KARACHI: The Supreme Court has reinstated 294 employees who had been fired by the Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) on April 19, 2010 for various reasons.
A three-member bench of the apex court announced this verdict in a petition filed by KESC challenging the ruling of Sindh High Court (SHC).
SHC also ordered KESC to reinstate the sacked employees.
On the other hand, a KESC spokesman said that he was not aware of any such ruling by the apex court. SAMAA

LHC praises Geo’s role in saving people lives
LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) has directed federal, provincial governments and other concerned food departments to submit their written reply relating to a news of cat food, which was served to people as a human drink in Lahore, Geo news reported.
LHC took this decision over the writ petition filed by Judicial Activism against open sale of cat drink to people in Lahore.
Amid hearing of the petition, the senior judge Justice Azmat Saeed made his remarks that the court can not keep its eyes closed and mouth shut over sale of hazardous cat drink to public.
He also applauded role of Geo news saying, Geo has played a commendable role in reporting this news and has certainly saved precious lives of people.
Court has directed the concerned food departments to submit report on August 18, media reports said.
NRO review: federation allowed to file amended apeal
ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court has allowed the federation to file an amended appeal for NRO verdict review after the government assured the bench that it would remove the word, which invited the SC”s objection.
Justice Mian Shakirullah Jan heard the appeal filed against SC”s registrar office objection over government’s review appeal for NRO review.
Universities receive degrees of 419 parliamentarians
KARACHI: Two major universities – Punjab University and Karachi University – have received the degrees of 419 parliamentarians for verification while NED University has okayed 4 degrees.
The Higher Education Commission (HEC) sent degrees of 313 members of National and provincial assemblies to Punjab University which has formed a committee to complete the process of verification in 15 days.
Vice Chancellor Karachi University, Pirzada Qasim said the university has received degrees of 106 lawmakers including those of Farooq Naik, Shahla Raza, Nisar Khuhro, Mir Hazar Khan Bijarani, Rehman Malik and Raza Rabbani.
NED University received degrees of four members, Murad Ali Shah, Muhammad Farhat Khan, Tayyab Hussain and Basant Lal. The university declared all the four degrees authentic.
Meanwhile, degrees of all the Balochistan cabinet members have also been forwarded to HEC for verification.
Verification process has also been initiated for grade-17 officers in Balochistan on the directives of HEC.
Degree saga: PPP MNA resigns
ISLAMABAD: The saga of fake degree continued to haunt the legislators as another lawmaker, Amir Yar Waran of PPP, from NA-184 Bahawalpur, has resigned from National Assembly over the issue, Geo News reported.
The lawmaker presented his resignation to the Speaker National Assembly, which she accepted.
The SC, Thursday, June 17, 2010 sought graduation”s degree record of MNA from Bahawalpur and Balochistan universities on July 2.
A three-member bench of the apex court, comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Ghulam Rabbani and Justice Khalilur Rehman Ramday, was hearing a petition filed by Mian Najibuddin Owais of the PML-Q, challenging the graduation degree of Amir Yar Waran.
The petitioner contended that Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai University had notified Amir”s degree as bogus. He said afterwards Amir made another person to take BA exam in his place through Bahawalpur University. However, he was caught and declared ineligible for three years, he said.
He said Amir, however, managed to get a BA degree from Balochistan University. Justice Khalilur Rehman Ramday questioned that does the law allow a person who is a fraud to sit in Parliament and decide upon people”s fates, adding that would such people appoint judges of superior judiciary.
LHC discharges pleas against ban on three-time premiership
LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) dismissed petitions against ban on three-time premiership by declaring it ineffective, Geo News reported Wednesday.
Tariq Aziz Advocate and Asghar Khan Advocate filed these petitions against the ban on third time premiership.
The court said in its remarks that petitions are unwarranted now after the passage of Eighteenth Amendment.
