NEW YORK – Mike Pelfrey and the New York Mets zeroed in once again.
Pelfrey and the Mets bullpen pulled off a most extraordinary pitching feat in this big-hitting era, shutting out Philadelphia for the third straight game Thursday night and handing the flailing Phillies a 3-0 loss.
Ryan Howard, Chase Utley and the NL champions got swept in the series without scoring a single run — it marked the first time since 1983 that Philadelphia was blanked three days in a row.

“Luckily, we were able to keep it going,” Pelfrey said.
Pelfrey (7-1) and a pair of relievers held the Phillies to four singles while winning their fifth consecutive game. The big right-hander followed top efforts by knuckleballer R.A. Dickey and Japanese newcomer Hisanori Takahashi as the Mets threw back-to-back-to-back blankings for the first time since 1988.
“I think your job is to put up zeros,” Pelfrey said. “I thought I was OK.”
In today’s times when sluggers rule, it was even more amazing. Not since 2004 had any team shut out another club in a three-game series — Johan Santana and Minnesota blanked Kansas City in that set, STATS LLC said.
Santana will try to keep the streak going Friday night when he starts for the Mets at Milwaukee.

Jose Reyes, fresh from giving batting tips to the newly crowned Miss USA, was pretty at the plate. He singled and scored in the first, singled the next time up and delivered a two-run double in the seventh that finished Cole Hamels (5-3).

Phillies fan, 17, tasered after running onto field
Officials discussing if firing ‘was proper use of the equipm PHILADELPHIA – A police officer used a Taser gun to apprehend a fan who ran onto the field during a Phillies game Monday night, and the team and the police are investigating whether it was an appropriate use of force.
The fan, wearing a baseball cap, red T-shirt and khaki shorts, hopped a fence and scurried around the outfield, eluding two security officers in the bottom of the eighth inning against the St. Louis Cardinals. One officer used a Taser and the fan went down in a heap. Several Phillies placed gloves over their faces and appeared to be stifling laughter at the wild scene.
Phillies spokeswomen Bonnie Clark said the police department is investigating the matter and discussing with the team whether using the stun gun was appropriate.
Carlos Monasterios
Carlos Monasterios, Big news this morning: the Mets pitcher was Carlos Monasteries in Rule 5.
Do not worry, not supposed to have heard of him. The fun part is that he took in organizing the Philadelphia Phillies.
Monasteries is a 23-year-old right-hander (will be 24 March) of Venezuela, which produces a hard burden of the 90 low. It was acquired by the Phillies in the deal that sent Bobby Abreu to the Yankees, and has performed with mixed results since.
Originally a starter, he moved to the bullpen in 2009 – which appears 29 times in relief and making 8 starts. Of the 37 games, 35 came to Clearwater in the Florida State League (A). He threw a total of 7 entries for AA Reading last year. He had two saves and pitched a Clearwater.
Overall, his ERA was 3.73 last year more than 89 IP, 75 K, 29 BB, 4 HR, 79 H, to 1.21 WHIP. You can see their full statistics here.
Monasteries Personally I have never seen release, so I can not comment beyond what is available on the interweb super highway. Seems to be a very big leap to go from one ball to MLB, but it has done before.

People are sure that RB will suspend Larry for the slur. Last season, then head coach Herman Edwards had benched him for three games for an unspecified violation of team rules. He was severely punished that time for rowdy incidents involving two women in bars.
Then NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell suspended him for a fourth game for breaking the league’s player-conduct policy. Finally, Johnson was sentenced to two years’ probation after pleading guilty to two counts of disturbing the peace.
Larry’s performance this season has not been up to mark. And many say he made the slur out of frustration.

MILAN: FIFA President Blatter to Stand For re-election, FIFA president Sepp Blatter says he will run for reelection in 2011 so it can continue to take new initiatives to develop football worldwide.
Blatter told La Gazzetta dello Sport on Tuesday: “I have not finished my mission in football. I need more time. … I hope that in 2011 the FIFA Congress, once again believe in me, otherwise I’ll go my people. ”
The 73-year-old from Switzerland, was elected president of FIFA in 1998, survived allegations of corruption to win the 2002 election and was elected for the third time in 2007.
