KARACHI: In connection with the celebrations for 12th Rabiul Awwal, ban imposed on pillion riding is now ineffective for two days from today (Saturday) here in the metropolis, reports TrendPK.
Three days ago, the ban was put in place for five days to ensure peaceful occurrence of celebrating processions relating to 12th Rabiul Awwal but on the persistent insistence from Karachiites, the Sindh government announced yesterday to put away ban on 11th and 12th day of Rabiul Awwal.
Governor Sindh Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ebad and Home Minister Manzoor Wasaan jointly chaired a high-level meeting at Governor House on Friday night to review security arrangements, and the duo had ended up announcing the ban to be lifted for two days, Saturday and Sunday. TrendPK

KARACHI: Pillion-riding has been outlawed in Karachi for five days for a security precaution during the sacred event of 12th Rabi-ul-Awwal while at least 50 alleged suspects have been taken under arrest during search operations in different areas , reports TrendPK on Tuesday.
Home ministry of Sindh has notified imposition of ban on pillion-writing in black and white. The ban will stay effective till February 5.
After the fresh spate of target killing in metropolis, police and rangers launched a joint crackdown against the menace in different areas. At least 50 suspects were rounded up during targeted operations in Orangi Town and Liaquatabad areas.
Later, the residents of Ilyas Goth took to street and staged protest against the arrests from their area. Protestors blocked Teen Hatti Road and pelted vehicles with stones. Subsequently, police arrived on the scene and quelled the agitation by shelling and made many more arrests. TrendPK
Ban on Pillion Riding in Karachi to Continue
Karachi, trendpk: The duration of ban on pillion riding in Karachi has come to an end today but provincial Minister for Interior Affairs has decided to extend this duration till Chehlum. Notification for this extension might be issued today.
In order to avoid any sort of terrorist activities, a ban on pillion riding in most of the major cities including Karachi was imposed during the month of Muharram. A notification was issued by Ministry of Interior, Sindh, for ban of pillion riding under the act 144 from 2nd December 2010 till 19th December 2010. However the provincial Minister for Interior Affairs has announced to extend this ban till Chehlum but no notification in this regard has been so far issued. According to the sources of Ministry of Interior, a notification can be issued in this regard today. Earlier to this, a ban on pillion riding in Karachi was lifted on 23rd November 2010. This ban on pillion riding has also been lifted in Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
Sindh: Security arrangements finalized for Muharram
Pakistan Rangers Sindh have finalized all security arrangements for the month of Muharram-ul-Hara’am, trendpk.Com reported on Tuesday.
All important gatherings, conventions and caravans would be monitored through satellite and also aerial surveillance would be employed to ensure that no mishap takes place. Video recording of all majalis would also be done. A high level meeting took place in the Rangers’ headquarters Karachi to finalize the security arrangements for the month of Muharram. Senior police officers and Rangers’ personnel attended the meeting. Strict orders have been issued on implementing the pillion riding ban, keeping and possessing weapons and also against aerial firing. Security has been beefed up on all the airports, railway stations and other important places of all the cities whereas all the caravans and majalis would be monitored through satellite and CCTV cameras.

KARACHI: Pillion riding in the city is once again under threat as Sindh Government is considering banning it in few days from the start of Muharram.
Shafuddin Memon, an adviser to the Sindh Home Minister, has confirmed the pillion riding ban information; the faces of transporters and policemen have started to glow after hearing this news.
Earlier in December 2008, motor cycle pillion riding ban was imposed in Karachi. After two years, on October 16, Sindh Home Minister Dr. Zulfiqar Mirza announced the removal of the ban but just after two days of break it was again resumed.
Finally, after a long and constant ban of 22 months and 23 days, pillion riding ban was removed on November 23. Now just after one week of relief a new pillion riding ban has been planned by the authorities.

Three-day Ban on Pillion Riding in Punjab
Pakistan News: Slashing the five day ban, Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed three-day ban on pillion riding from 8 till 10th of Muharrum-ul-Harram.
The CM called for utilization of all resources to promote religious harmony and added proper monitoring to enforce the pillion riding ban.
Earlier, speaking in another gathering, the CM directed to jazz up the demolition drive against illegal plazas in Lahore, and said that no influence or approach would be entertained in this regard.
He also gave directives to initiate a crackdown against wall chalking across the province.
