Hudson River plane crash video, Just days after authorities completed the recovery efforts of the nine victims and plane wreckage in the Hudson River, new video of the collision has come out.

The single-engine plane was hit by a helicopter, sending both aircrafts into the river. The plane, a Piper Saratoga PA-32, was found lying on its side at the bottom of the river.

The collision has led to calls for more restrictions on use of airspace around Manhattan – and two air traffic controllers have been removed from duty for having a conversation.

Liberty Tours New York, Helicopter Crash, A small plane carrying three people collided with a tour helicopter carrying about a half-dozen people Saturday, sending debris into the Hudson River and onto the Hoboken, N.J., waterfront.

Two officials at New York City emergency response agencies said at least one person was confirmed dead and they knew of no one being rescued. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to speak before Mayor Michael Bloomberg gives an expected mid-afternoon media briefing.,

A helicopter and small plane have collided over the East River, witnesses said.

The two aircraft crashed near West 14th Street just before noon, with wreckage falling into the water and on land on the New Jersey side, witnesses told the New York Post.

It is unclear how many passengers were involved. Witnesses said the small plane was a Cessna.

Witnesses said one victim was already pulled out of the water and taken to Pier 40.

Teterboro Airport helicopter crash, A tour helicopter carrying five Italian tourists collided with a small plane Saturday over the Hudson River, and authorities believed all nine people aboard were killed., The plane, a Piper PA-32, took off from Teterboro Airport in New Jersey, and the helicopter was a Eurocopter AS 350 owned by Liberty Tours, a sightseeing and charter company, the Federal Aviation Administration said.

The plane was headed to Ocean City, N.J., FAA spokesman Jim Peters said. The helicopter had just taken off from a heliport on Manhattan’s West side.

People who saw the crash and its aftermath described the two aircraft colliding not far from the Hoboken shoreline, and said the impact sheared off the plane’s wing.

“There was a loud pop, almost like a car backfire,” said Buzz Nahas, who saw the crash from Hoboken. “The helicopter dropped like a rock.”

Katie Tanski, of Hoboken, heard the noise of the collision, looked up and saw chaos in the air.

“We saw the helicopter propellers fly all over,” she said. Some pieces of the wreckage fell on land, sending Tanski and others scurrying for cover.

Seven months ago, the same river was the scene of a spectacular aircraft accident that resulted in no loss of life. In January, a US Airways flight taking off from LaGuardia Airport slammed into a flock of birds and lost power in both engines. The plane crash-landed in the Hudson River, and all 155 people on board were pulled to safety.

A person who answered the phone at a Liberty Tours office declined to comment on the accident, but said the company would be releasing a statement. The company runs sightseeing excursions around the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island and Manhattan at costs ranging from $130 to about $1,000.

Two years ago, a Liberty helicopter fell 500 feet from the sky during a sightseeing trip. The pilot was credited with safely landing the chopper in the Hudson and helping evacuate her seven passengers.

Ufc 101 fight card and Ufc 101 date, From the moment he stepped in the octagon for the first time, BJ Penn was a known commodity, so talented he earned a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt in three years, so gifted that he’d won the equivalent of the jiu-jitsu world championship just weeks after his black belt ceremony despite competing against lifelong devotees. His reputation was such in the BJJ world that mixed martial arts fans had debated, analyzed and speculated about this wunderkind before he’d ever had a single MMA match. And when he finally debuted, it was not on a regional show like most, but in the UFC.

Contrast that with his UFC 101 opponent Kenny Florian. He entered the world of MMA with no fanfare, was thought to be a major underdog on his season of The Ultimate Fighter, and even after making it to the finals, he was never expected to amount to much. Fighting at 185 pounds, the former collegiate soccer player seemed outsized, outclassed and out of his element.

Yet somehow, their paths are converging Saturday night at the Wachovia Center. Such is the beauty of sports. Such is the beauty of MMA.

Despite Florian’s constant record of success in beating the odds, from talking to a horde of MMA reporters here covering the event, it’s safe to say some things haven’t changed: Florian is still a big underdog (in Las Vegas, Penn is around a -240 favorite).

The conventional wisdom is that Penn is better in every aspect of the game than Florian; the better boxer, grappler, better in scrambles, etc. So then, the thinking goes, how can Florian possibly win?

In discussing this with FIGHT! Magazine editor-in-chief Donovan Craig earlier this week, he mentioned UFC 76. And why is that relevant? UFC 76 was probably the last time the top two matches on a UFC pay-per-view were thought to be so one-sided. Yet, what happened that night? Both underdogs won (Keith Jardine beat Chuck Liddell, and Forrest Griffin beat Shogun Rua).

In MMA, underdogs win. Not all the time, but they win. Rua was the last underdog to win in a main event or co-main event of a UFC pay-per-view when he knocked out Liddell at UFC 97.

But if any fighter has a chance of scoring an upset, it’s Florian. How can you discount a guy who was never expected to be a factor in the UFC but has earned a second shot at the belt? Sure, he hasn’t faced the overall caliber of opponent that Penn has, but you can’t ignore his impressive six-fight winning streak, nor the fact that he finished five of those opponents. You also shouldn’t underestimate his secret weapon: his brain.

Florian is one of the most strategic fighters in MMA. For all the attention we give to someone’s ground skills (Demian Maia, for example) or their head kicks (Mirko Cro Cop) or their crushing right hand (Dan Henderson), we constantly fail to take into account a fighter’s intelligence. Few study the game and their opponents like Florian. You can bet he will come into the cage with a complete understanding of Penn’s tendencies and abilities. That’s not to say he can stop what’s coming, only that he probably has a better idea of what’s coming than most. And this being GI Joe opening weekend, we need not remind you that “knowing is half the battle.”

The other half will be fascinating. For all his accomplishments, Penn is just 4-4 in his last eight fights. Those losses are to elite-level fighters Lyoto Machida, Georges St. Pierre (twice) and Matt Hughes. We’re about to find out if Florian is an elite-level fighter. Maybe he’ll get blown out, but maybe not. He came into the UFC as an afterthought. He could leave the cage Saturday night as a champion.

Sturgis hail storm, Sturgis rally 2009, A thunderstorm Friday evening pounded Sturgis, where hail damaged some of the motorcycles and other vehicles in town for the Sturgis Rally, according to preliminary reports from the National Weather Service in Rapid City.

Hail measuring 1.75 inches was reported in downtown Sturgis shortly before 6 p.m. Friday, and with even larger hail reported just five miles east of downtown Sturgis.
