Rick Pitino would expect that the police would release the Karen Sypher Tapes (video footage of the complaint of Karen Sypher who is accusing Rick Pitino of rape) which could add more damage to his name? If you have been following the Rick Pitino extortion case, you know that Pitino and Sypher have been trying to destroy each other, making a feast for the media in the process.
Pitino called an immediate press conference.
“If you all showed up thinking I am resigning you are going to be disappointed. On the day Ted Kennedy died we broke into news here in Louisville with Karen Sypher tapes….Believe me I will suffer for that mistake. My wife and children should not suffer for these lies, and believe me these are lies.”
University of Louisville president James Ramsey issued the following statement thereafter:
“Several months ago, Coach Pitino informed me about the alleged extortion attempt. I’ve now been informed that there may be other details which, if true, I find surprising”.
Reports claim Pitino’s contract with Louisville provides “dishonesty” and “moral depravity” as basis for firing.

Rick Pitino Extortion Case Updates
University of Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino admitted to police that he did have sexual intercourse with Karen Cunagin Sypher back on August 1, 2003. The incident took place at Porcini restaurant in Lousville with Vinnie Tatum close enough to hear the entire encouter.
Pitino told police that he had consensual sex with Karen Sypher (Cunagin, at the time of the relationship) at a Louisville restaurant where he’d been drinking on Aug. 1, 2003.
Details from the police report were published in the Louisville Courier-Journel today. The sex took place in the restaurant the two had ran into each other hours before.
Pitino said Sypher left the restaurant and returned at about closing time. He said that after the restaurant closed and the last employees and owner Tim Coury had left, Sypher “started coming on to him and that they had sex,” according to Abbott’s report. Pitino said he learned later that [Pitino aide Vinnie] Tatum was still there.
Tatum told the FBI that he had lain down and couldn’t see what happened but that he heard what sounded like consensual sex, Abbott wrote in a report.
Naturally, Cunagin-Sypher called Pitino two weeks later claiming she was pregnant. Pitino arranged to meet her at the condo of the team strength coach, Tim Sypher.
Pitino said he told her they should meet somewhere discreetly to discuss the matter. He said he suggested the condo of the team’s strength coach, Tim Sypher, whom she’d not yet met, but later married. She met Tim Sypher and followed him to the condo.
But Pitino’s admission to Louisville police gets jucier and even more scandalous:
He also told police that he later gave Sypher $3,000 to have an abortion, according to Louisville Metro Police reports The Courier-Journal obtained under the Kentucky Open Records Act.
Sypher is the woman that as been accused of blackmailing Pitino for money in exchange for her silence about the sexual relations and alleged rape by Pitino. She has been indicted by a Grand Jury on charges to extort money from Pitino.

The Perseids are always reliable, and sometimes rather spectacular. The only things that puts a damper on the August show are bad weather or bright moonlight. Unfortunately this week, as the Perseids reach their peak Tuesday and Wednesday nights, the moon will be high in the sky, outshining the fainter meteors.
Still, skywatchers around the globe will have a good chance of spotting the brighter meteors. Some already are enjoying the show.

The Perseids are bits of debris from Comet Swift-Tuttle, which has laid down several streams of debris, each in a slightly different location, over the centuries as it orbits the sun. Every August, Earth passes through these debris streams, which spread out over time.

There are no counter allegations, and as far as I am concerned this criminal investigation is going to proceed to a logical conclusion and I hope that we can put this matter behind us as quickly as possible.”
Pitino had previously issued the following statement:
My family and I were recently threatened as part of a criminal scheme to extort money. Upon receiving these threats, we reported this extortion attempt to the FBI. While I did not want to make this matter public, I recently learned that the individual behind this extortion attempt has already gone to the media with false, defamatory and outrageous allegations in an attempt to pressure me to cave in to this scheme.
I want to make it clear that I intend to vigorously defend my reputation and the character of my family against any criminal scheme to extort money. I am hopeful that the media and public will recognize the slanderous nature of this direct and malicious attack.
