Earlier, PM Gilani was accorded a warm welcome by Sharif Brothers on his arrival in Raiwind. While, Nawaz Sharif son Hussain Nawaz and the senior leader PML-N Ishaq Dar were also present at this occasion.

Also, the meeting was attended by Chief Minister Punjab Mian Mohammed Shahbaz Sharif and other senior leaders of PML-N.

The issues pertaining to current political situation, Charter of Democracy (CoD), repeal of 17th amendment from constitution, accountability bill, good governance, grievances of common men, foreign policy, contacts with US and NATO and resumption of Indo-Pak talks came under discussion during the meeting, sources said.

PM Gilani said that he wanted to stick to the government’s policy of reconciliation, predicting a good news regarding 17th amendment soon, sources told media.

The premier said: “I want to work jointly with PML-N for the supremacy of constitution and strength of democracy in Pakistan.”

During the meeting, Mian Nawaz Sharif urged PM Gilani that government should work sincerely to address the plights of common men.

Government should soon proceed towards the restoration of transparent accountability system as decided in the Charter of Democracy (CoD), Nawaz demanded concrete actions against those who are found guilty of sabotaging law and constitution of Pakistan.

Addressing a gathering at Aiwan-e-Iqbal, the PM said, “Beauty of democracy lies in difference of opinion, and the future of country depended on the continuation of democracy”. He maintained that all the political parties were united in the country and added that problems did not call for reversal of everything. He said politics was not a film industry where faces change, and added that same faces would come in forefront if the mid-term polls were held. The PM said that it is President’s constitutional right to address the parliament and added that it would be a great injustice to compare a dictator with a democratic government. He noted that reconciliatory politics was Benazir Bhutto’s vision.
He said that good governance meant that the judiciary should dispense justice to the masses and did not mean that the PM should deliver. He asserted that the provincial governments were as much accountable in this regard. The PM noted that terrorism topped all the big challenges facing the country. He hailed the army, saying that the armed forces are extending sacrifices to save future of the country.

KABUL: Afghan officials say four policemen have been killed and four others wounded when their vehicle struck a roadside bomb in southern Afghanistan.

The Afghan Interior Ministry said in a statement Wednesday that the four were killed Tuesday in the Reg district of Kandahar province.

Kandahar province is next to Helmand province where 15,000 U.S., NATO and Afghan troops are in the fifth day of a massive military offensive to wrest control of the town of Marjah from Taliban control.

Rawalpindi, Pakistan News: Prime Minister Syed Youusf Raza Gilani has assured that the country, democracy and institutions are not in danger.

The PM observed that self-sufficiency in arms production was the need of hour and vowed to provide the army with modern equipment despite the economic crunch. He noted that Pakistan, China ties were very deep and based on mutual trust, and added that the inclusion of PNS Shamsher would further boost the ties. Speaking on the occasion, Admiral Nauman said that F22P Frigate has been prepared in view of the Pak Navy’s requirements, while the third frigate was being prepared. Earlier, the PM was given Guard of Honour by the Navy personnel.
