PML-N, PML-Q Likeminded forge alliance
Leaders from both sides had a meeting where they decided to form the alliance.
PML-N was represented by Senator Ishaq Dar, Mehtab Abbasi, Iqbal Zafar Jhagra and PML-Q Likeminded by Senator Salim Saifullah, Humayun Akhtar and Senator Ghafar Qureshi.
As the matter of PML-Q Likeminded and the PML-Q objections to the splinter is pending in the Lahore High Court, both parties decided to retain their separate identities despite agreement on forming an alliance.
Sources said issues relating the economy, establishment of new provinces and the law and order situation were also taken up in the meeting.
PML-N decides not to amalgamate with Leagues
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has decided in principle not to be a part of the leagues coalition, Dunya News reported on Friday. The party leaders were of the view that they could not unite with those politicians who supported a dictator i.e; Musharraf.
PML-N leaders criticized the leagues coalition in a meeting of the central organizing committee of PML-N in Islamabad chaired by Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif. The leaders of PML-N said that they earned prestige and respect due to the fight against dictatorship and therefore this respect could not be lost by the party by participating in the coalition of the leagues. The leaders also said that most of PML-Q leaders sitting in the parliament support PML-N and those who are trying for the leagues amalgamation are infact desperate for their political survival.
PLM-N chief Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif said that the present government has created serious challenges for the country because of its ill-conceived policies and wrong deeds. He also said that had PML-N not taken bold stance on the issue of restoration of the higher judiciary, the government would never have fulfilled its promises.
Ishaq Dar and Ch. Shujaat hold key meeting
PML N leader Ishaq Dar held a meeting with PML-Q chief Ch. Shujaat Hussain on Wednesday. PML-N has demanded to review the decision of proposing both the names from PML-Q for constituting a parliamentary committee for judges appointment.
The meeting between Ishaq Dar and Ch. Shujaat took place in the chamber of Opposition Leader in the Senate Wasim Sajjad. Ishaq Dar, in the presence of Wasim Sajjad, objected the decision to give both names from PML-Q for parliamentary committee. He said that PML-N was also in the Opposition and why it wasnt consulted.
Talking to Dunya News, Ishaq Dar said that Ch. Shujaat and Wasim Sajjad have assured him to review the both names.
PML-N demands mid-term polls
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has put forward its demand of mid-term elections openly when Khwaja Asif of PML-N said that mid-term elections should be held as the masses have become fed up of the present set up. Khwaja Asif was talking in Dunya News programme, Dunya Meray Aagay.
Khwaja Asif also said that change has become inevitable as hopes for improvement have diminished. He said that PML-N wants the mid-term elections to be held in the country. He said that those who are proud of their mass popularity and vote bank should not get restless this demand as they could again get the mass support if there is any support for them. Khwaja Asif termed the present governments performance as extremely disappointing and hopeless. He advised the government to go to the public again to regain the mandate.
Earlier the prime minister while responding to the opposition leaders remarks about mid-term elections said that no martial law is going to be imposed and neither would he (the PM) dissolve the assemblies.
PML-Ns demand could affect present system: Kamil Ali Agha
Senator of PML-Q Kamil Ali Agha has said that the demand of PML-N could affect the present democratic system. He also said that such demand should be made after brain storming and not as emotional demands. Kamil Ali Agha was of the view that such decisions could only be made in the party meetings.
Mid-term polls could affect democracy: Mian Iftikhar
The information minister of the KhyberPakhtunkhwa province Mian Iftikhar Hussain has said that the demand seems to be Khwaja Asifs personal thought and not the party stance of PML-N. He said that mid-term polls could affect democracy in the country. He also felt sure that Mian Nawaz Sharif would not be in support of this demand.
We would not support any extra constitutional action: Liaqat Baloch
Leader of Jamat-e Islami Liaqat Baloch has said that the Jamat would not support any extra constitutional move. He said that mid-terms could only be held when the assemblies are dissolved. Liaqat Baloch said that on one hand PPP and PML-N are in coalition government in Punjab and on the other hand this demand has been forwarded. He vowed not to support any extra constitutional action or step.
PML-Ns desire would not be fulfilled: Faisal Abidi
Leader of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Faisal Raza Abidi has responded on the demand by saying that this demand and desire of PML-N would not be fulfilled. These types of demands are not new for PPP, he added. He proudly prophesied PPPs success even in the next general polls.
Circumstances compelled to launch MML: Pagara
All factions of All Pakistan Muslim League have merged into Muttahida Muslim League (MML) which was formally launched in Karachi today. Pir Pagara was elected as president of newly-formed Muttahida Muslim League (MML). The four factions, which were merged into the newly formed MML, were PML (F), PML (Zia), PML (like-minded), and PML (Awami).
In an important meeting at Kingri House Karachi on Friday, newly-formed MML leadership has constituted a 10-member committee to contact Nawaz Sharif and others to join MML. Mir Zafarullah Jamali will lead the 10-member committee.
Talking to media in Karachi, Mir Zafarullah Jamali said that Pakistan was passing through a difficult phase of time and it was need of the hour to unite all Muslim Leagues. He said that without showing leniency, Leagues cannot be united.
On this occasion, Pir Pagara while talking to media said that circumstances compelled them to launch a united party. He said that without Mutahida Muslim League, challenges of the country cannot be addressed.
Its a plan to break Ns vote bank: Ahsan
PML-N leader Ahsan Iqbal while talking to Dunya News said that it was a scheme to break vote bank of PML-N. he said that N doesnt believe on traditional alliances but we believe on politics of principles. He said that hurdles were being created in the way of PML-N.
No decision to join APML yet: Ami Muqam
While talking to Dunya News, PML-Q leader Amir Maqam said that the party still had no meeting on the issue. He said that there should be a true and credible leader who can lead the new alliance so that every one can follow him.

KARACHI: Chief of Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) Chaudhry Shujjat Hussain said that the Sindh card carries no value, adding that the game is now in the hands of Pir Pagara, the chief of Pakistan Muslim League-Functional.
He gave these remarks at Karachi Press Club on Sunday accompanied by PML-Q leader, Mushahid Hussain Syed.
Mushahid Hussain said, on the occasion, that Pakistan Peoples’ Party leaders preferred self interests in their areas during floods.
He said that half of the Sindh card sank during the flood and remaining half with the merger of PML-Q and PML-F.
Mushahid Hussain also invited PML-Nawaz to join the new platform of PML. SAMAA

Degrees scrutiny to undermine democracy: Atta-ur-Rehman
RAHIMYAR KHAN: Federal Minister for Tourism Maulana Atta-ur-Rheman Saturday said holding a degree is not necessary to do politics in any country of the world, terming the current exercise of degrees’ verification as an attempt to destabilize the incumbent democratic set up.
“The Supreme Court has already ruled that it is not necessary to hold a degree to contest elections,” the Minister said while addressing a press conference here.
The issue of fake degrees at hand is result of the unnecessary condition of holding one to be eligible to participate in elections.
Musharraf has no future in politics: Ejazul Haq
LAHORE: The PML-Zia Chairman Muhammad Ejazul Haq and former minister in former president Pervez Musharraf regime stated that the ex-dictator has no future in the country”s politics.
He was addressing a press briefing at Lahore Press Club here Saturday.
Hamayun Akhtar Khan from PML (Like-minded) and MPA Makhdoom Ahmed Mahmood from PML (Functional) also accompanied him.
Ejazul Haq told media that they have written letters to respective leadership of various factions of the PML, urging them for working together to pull Pakistan out of the prevailing crises on different fronts.
He added that in this regard, they have received very positive response from the PML-F head Pir Sahab Pagara, while, the PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain also expressed his resolve to jointly work for the welfare and progress of Pakistan and assured his party”s cooperation.
To a question, the PML-Z President said that they were also in contact with other political parties including Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf, Jamaat-e-Islami and Sindh Awami Ittihad, adding, “We want the sincere and patriot people must come forward to play their role for the welfare and prosperity of the nation.”
He said, “We will meet again at Pir Sahab Pagara”s residence in Karachi on August 5, 2010 to chalk-out joint strategy in this regard.
To another question, he said that they support the formation of new provinces to ensure timely, speedy and effective administrative measures to facilitate the general public.
Ziaul Haq, Hamayun Akhtar and Makhdoom Ahmed Mahmood also strongly condemned the anti-media resolution presented by a PML-N MPA Sana Ullah Mastikhel and subsequently, unanimously passed by the Punjab Assembly.
They said that all the parliamentary parties at their own must take cognizance of the fake degrees of the MPs and expose the black sheep in their folds.
