Bullish spell prevails at Asian stocks

Bulls ruled the roost at Asian stocks on Monday while silver hits 30-year high rates in the international markets.
MSCI Index closed at 1 percent, while Japans Nikkei Index gained 1.39percent.
Hang Seng gained 1.28 points while Topix added 1.3 percent. Silver prices crossed 21.60 cents in the international markets.

Asian stocks witnessed a bullish trend on Wednesday.
Morgan Stanley Asia Pacific Index lost 4 points while Japans Nikkei Index touched the lowest level in the last 16 months as it shed 1.7 percent. Shanghais composite Index lost 2 percent. Rise in Yen against other currencies cast a negative impact on Japanese export.

Bears reign supreme at KSE this week

Bearish sentiment prevailed at the Karachi Stock Exchange this week and 100-index plunged 350 points.
Expected imposition of capital gain tax and VAT in the next budget, investors remained on sidelines and they preferred selling. Due to which, Index dropped 442 points on first two days. On Wednesday, Index gained 183 points. On Thursday, Index plummeted 171 points while gained 81 points on Friday. So, overall drop at KSE recorded at 3.5 percent. Experts are of the view that investors will remain cautious during the next due to arrival of the budget.

Shares down by $53tr in Asia

Asian markets are bullish while shares are down by $53trillion owing to the financial crisis hitting Europe.
MSCI Index came down at 111 points after losing 1.5 percent. Japans Nikkei Index closed at 9,784 after shedding 46 points.
During trade, Indias Sensex lost 160 points while Hang Seng shed 33 points. Taiwan stock market lost 187 points.

WAPDA retain National Senior Weightlifting Championship

LAHORE: Defending champion Pakistan WAPDA won the 57th National Senior Weightlifting Championship here on Thursday while Pakistan Railways secured the second position.

Teams of all the four provinces along with Pakistan WAPDA, Pakistan Railways, Higher Education Commission, Pakistan Police, Pakistan Army and Islamabad participated in the two-day championship held here at the Punjab University Old Campus Ground from March 30.

WAPDA displayed brilliant performance in the event and defended its title with 74 points while the Railways came second with 43 and HEC finished third with 30 points.
