Evidence of Indian ntervention In Balochistan: PM

Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani said that Pakistan has evidence of Indian intervention in Balochistan.
The Prime Minister (PM) while speaking in the Senate said unlike the previous governments that tried to strengthen ‘One Party Rule,’ the PPP-led coalition government had worked for reconciliation in politics.
The Prime Minister said that on the day he assumed office, he announced the manifesto of coalition government and it also had the endorsement of Pakistan Muslim League-N. “We’ve tried to implement our manifesto in the most difficult times,” he added.
Gilani said his government had convinced the world that Pakistan was playing a crucial role as a frontline state against terrorism.
It had suffered massive losses in its fight against terrorism including the economic sector.
“Unlike the past when USA didn’t trust you, today the whole world is supporting Pakistan. Today Pakistan is being offered ‘Strategic Dialogue, which is a paradigm shift,” he said.
Prime Minister said he would inform the nation about the result that Pakistan would attain in the strategic dialogue and assured the nation that nothing would be kept secret from it. He said the Pakistan People’s Party from the day one had accorded priority to empowerment of the people of remote areas and added once terrorism was crushed political parties would then be allowed in Federal Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).
Gilani said he himself went to NWFP and announced a package for the relief of people, but if there was still any shortcoming in the package, it would be removed.
He directed Interior Minister Rehman Malik to resolve the problems faced by Pushtun people or in any other part of the country n acquiring National Identity Cards.

Google, Viacom Sling Mud In YouTube Court Fight
April 20, 2010 by Trend PK

The Viacom-Google battle over YouTube’s alleged copyright infringement has been going on mostly behind the scenes for years. But court documents made public this week shed some light on the unfolding drama.
Viacom filed suit against Google in 2007 for allegedly allowing users to upload more than 100,000 videos clips containing copyrighted Viacom content, including parts of shows from MTV, Comedy Central, and Nickelodeon. The suit, which seeks $1 billion in damages, was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.
Now the court is making documents public. Revelations include a Google claim that Viacom employees posted clips on YouTube and complained about YouTube hosting them. The documents also reveal Viacom’s unsuccessful bid for YouTube in October 2006. Google won the bidding wars and paid $1.65 billion for the video-sharing site.
“Google beat out Viacom, and Viacom has had sour grapes ever since,” said Ilan Barzilay, a litigator at Seyfarth Shaw in Boston. “As far as immediate impact on these things on the lawsuit, this isn’t going to mean much. The parties are filing motions and the court will be addressing issues on summary judgment. The court may or may not ultimately decide the case on summary judgment or may cue it up for trial, which would be a circus.”

China’s State Media Accused Google
April 20, 2010 by Trend PK
BEIJING CHINA NEWS : China’s state media on Sunday accused Google Inc of pushing a political agenda by “groundlessly accusing the Chinese government” of supporting hacker attacks and by trying to export its own culture, values and ideas.
In a commentary signed by three Xinhua writers, the state news agency also sought to defend the government’s Internet censorship, which Google has cited as one reason the world’s largest search engine may quit China.
“Regrettably, Google’s recent behaviours show that the company not just aims at expanding business in China, but is playing an active role in exporting culture, value and ideas.
“It is unfair for Google to impose its own value and yardsticks on Internet regulation to China, which has its own time-honoured tradition, culture and value.”
On Friday, the China Business News reported that Google may make an announcement as early as Monday on whether it will pull out of China.
Two months ago, Google said it had been the target of sophisticated hacking attacks originating from inside China, and the company said it would no longer agree to abide by Beijing’s censorship rules even if that meant shutting down its Google.cn site.
Since then, the two sides have reportedly been at a standoff, although Google’s chief executive, Eric Schmidt, said he hoped to have an outcome soon from talks with Chinese officials.
China requires Internet operators to block words and images the ruling Communist Party deems unacceptable, including those involving politically sensitive topics.
Beijing has also entirely blocked internationally popular websites Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
In the Xinhua commentary, the writers accused Google of violating international norms.
“In fact, no country allows unrestricted flow on the Internet of pornographic, violent, gambling or superstitious content, or content on government subversion, ethnic separatism, religious extremism, racialism, terrorism and anti-foreign feelings,” the commentary stated.
As in other disputes with foreign businesses and governments, the commentary said China’s stance in this case was a “pure internal affair”.
The writers said China’s Internet development would prosper without Google, while the company would be the “biggest loser”.
“Whether it leaves or not, the Chinese government will keep its Internet regulation principles unchanged. One company’s ambition to change China’s Internet rules and legal system will only prove to be ridiculous.
“And whether leaving or not, Google should not continue to politicalize itself, as linking its withdrawal to political issues will lose Google’s credibility among Chinese netizens.”
Although it is the global leader, Google operates at a distant second place to Baidu Inc, China’s domestic search engine leader, which has benefitted from the dispute.
Baidu’s shares have surged more than 44 percent since Google’s announcement that it could pull out of China, while Google’s stock has fallen roughly 6.3 percent.

Toshiba In Early Talks On Nuclear Reactor :Gates
April 20, 2010 by Trend PK
TOKYO : A company backed by Microsoft founder Bill Gates and Toshiba are in early talks to jointly develop a small nuclear reactor, the Japanese electronics giant said Tuesday.
The Nikkei business daily earlier reported that the two sides would team up to develop a compact next-generation reactor that can operate for up to 100 years without refueling to provide emission-free energy.
The daily said the joint development would focus on the Traveling-Wave Reactor (TWR), which consumes depleted uranium as fuel. Current light-water reactors require refueling every few years.
“Toshiba has entered into preliminary talks with TerraPower,” said Toshiba spokesman Keisuke Ohmori. “We are looking into the possibility of working together.”
Gates is the principal owner of TerraPower, an expert team based in the US state of Washington that is investigating ways to improve emission-free energy supplies using small nuclear reactors.
Unlike the current reactors at mega power plants, the smaller types could be introduced by cities or states or in developing countries more easily.
Ohmori said Gates, together with other TerraPower executives, had visited a Toshiba laboratory for nuclear power research near Tokyo last year.
“TerraPower is developing a small nuclear reactor and Toshiba is developing a different kind of small reactor. They were interested in Toshiba’s technology and aiming at practical realisation” of small reactors, he said.
Ohmori said the two sides had just begun to “exchange information” but stressed that “nothing concrete has been decided on development or investment.”
Gates is expected to use his personal wealth to back the development of TWRs and his investment could reach several billion dollars, the Nikkei said. The news boosted Toshiba’s share price by around four percent Tuesday.
The Nikkei said TerraPower had decided to join hands with Toshiba as it lacks the know-how to manufacture nuclear power equipment.
Toshiba, which owns US nuclear plant maker Westinghouse, has developed a design for an ultracompact reactor that can operate continuously for 30 years.
The company is preparing to apply for US approval to start constructing the first such reactor as early as 2014 and put it into practical use by the end of the decade, Ohmori said.

China Slams Google For Lifting Censorship
April 20, 2010 by Trend PK

Internet giant Google announced it would shut down its mainland China search engine rather than continue to censor user searches as demanded by Chinese authorities.
Mainland Chinese Google users now will automatically be redirected to the company’s uncensored version in Hong Kong. Google supporters and free-speech advocates hailed the news as a historic moment for freedom of expression inside China.
But government authorities in Beijing lashed out and condemned the move, clearly fearful it could stand as an example to other foreign companies frustrated by China’s ever-increasing controls on commerce and information exchange inside the country.
‘Google has violated the written promise it made on entering the Chinese market’, the Sino spokesperson said. ‘It is totally wrong in halting its filtering (censorship) of its search engine’.
