NEPRA approves power tariff increase for Faisalabad’s IPP, RPP
FAISALABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved power tariff increase for an independent power producer (IPP) and a rental power plant (RPP) of Faisalabad on Tuesday.
According to NEPRA notification issued today, Faisalabad’s Northern Power Generation Company’s (NPGC) Unit no.1 and 2 have been allowed to increase their power tariffs by Rs. 3.41 and Gulf Rental Power Plant (GRPP) by 38 paisa per unit.
After this current increase the power tariff of NPGC has jumped to Rs. 21.74 and of GRPP to Rs. 20.34 per unit.
The NEPRA has allowed this power tariff hike to counter price hike of furnace oil; the increased new power tariff will be charged for the period of March 15 to March 31. TrendPK
KESC asks Nepra to down power tariff
Karachi trendpk.com: Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) sent an official application to Nepra asking it to decrease the power tariff, trendpk.com reported on Wednesday.
As per the statement issued by Nepra, the KESC asked for a 10 paisa per unit decrease. The said request has been made for the month of November. Nepra would hear the request on Dec 29.

KARACHI: National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) reduced the power tariff of Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) by 84 paisas per unit on Monday.
According to NEPRA sources, this power tariff reduction has been made on a quarterly review basis and will cover all consumers of KESC.

KARACHI: The federal government has issued notification regarding two percent hike in electricity tariff in line with the guidelines of International Monetary Fund (IMF), Trend Pk reported Monday.
The fresh raise will be applicable from 1st November.
Sources say that the government has provided copies of the notification to an IMF team.
Under the IMF conditions, the government has to completely withdraw its subsidy on electricity by June 30, 2011.
On the whole, 20 percent increase in power tariff will be made by June next year. Trend Pk

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Water and Power Raja Pervez Ashraf said that his government knows the worries of the common people, adding that the increase in power tariff will be slow.
While talking to the media in the Parliament House on Thursday, he denied that any increase was due to the pressure of the IMF. He said that the government is doing for its own betterment. Raja Pervez Ashraf said that it was in favor of the country’s economy.

According to the sources of the ministry of water and power, the power tariff has been increased from yesterday raising the unit price to 12 rupees. It has been learnt that the increase has been made due to the agreements and ongoing programmes with the international monetary agencies. In this regard the government has decided to withdraw the subsidy in intervals. Since October, 2009 the government has increased the power tariff time and again.
According to the ministry of finance until the subsidies are finished, the power tariff would be increased every month by 2 percent.

Govt dissolves PEPCO: Pervaiz Ashraf
Minister for Water and Power Raja Pervaiz Ashraf said that the Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO) has been dissolved because it was suffering huge losses.
During a press conference in Islamabad, the minister said that PEPCO was suffering deficit of Rs 250 billion annually. He said that now, distribution companies would be responsible for their issues and would be independent but a Steering Committee would be made for distribution companies to look after these companies.
He said that 2 percent increase in power tariff was necessary. He said that Provinces would be consulted to deal with the issue of power theft. He said that it was directed to re-organize the public organizations.
