He said the business and industrial activities have also been severely affected due to the present law and order situation in the city.

KARACHI: Awami Muslim League (AML) leader Sheikh Rasheed has urged the people of Karachi to stand up like India’s Anna Hazare against the present system.

Interacting with newsmen at Karachi airport today, he said that MQM’s Karachi Card and PPP’ Sindh Card would go waste, warning Pakistan will sink, if Karachi sinks.

He said that army would not come in Karachi to eat biryani or nihari; it would come here set up military courts.

To a question, he said bureaucrats are thriving while people are vulnerable.

The nation, he said, looking toward skies for help.

“There should be no confusion. Political parties should make amends,” he said.

PTI’s Islamabad sit-in attracts large gathering

The sit-in has been started before Iftari today (Saturday).

Talking to the participants, Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) Chief Imran Khan said that the PPP as well as the PML-N were deceiving the masses and the inefficient rulers had led the country to the brink of destruction. He further said that political mafia was behind the Karachi violence and it should be stooped.

He said that presence of people showed that had rejected the present government and they desired such leadership which would pull out them from crisis. He stated that after come in power, he would take every step to end poverty, unemployment and to bring inflation down.

He stressed that the PTI was only a party which could provide relief to the poor. We will bring to justice to corrupt leadership with the help of the nation, he added.

Rs 1,000b needed to meet deficit: SBP

Governor State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) Shahid Kardar has said that the poor policies are causing price hike of daily use items.

Talking to media, he said the main reason of price hike was bad governance and the present government was not serious to provide relief to the poor.

He said there was no shortage of supply but to control the further increase in prices, proper monitoring is required. He mentioned that no extra money would be paid to the provincial governments, adding that deficit showed 1.6 percent decline in the first quarter. He said that a loan worth Rs 1,000 billion is needed to meet the deficit.

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani said on Friday that the new alliance of Muslim League, Muttahida Muslim League, might be in favor of Pakistan Peoples’ Party.

PM Gilani was addressing the Energy Conference held in Islamabad. He said that the government has completed work on the Charter of Democracy up to 80 percent.

He said that his government will consider opposition’s suggestions in favor of the country.
