Casting trouble keeps Ashutosh Gowariker’s Buddha on hold

The biggest ever project devised by Ashutosh Gowariker, Buddha, continues to be on hold. The filmmaker, who is known for films that are set on a huge

canvas while boasting of an opulent treatment, has decided that he won’t progress on the film till he finds the perfect actor to play the part of

Buddha.

“Frankly, it is a very difficult casting which I have in hand here”, says Ashutosh Gowariker who would be attempting a film with a religious base to it for

the first time ever, “I have seen so many actors worldwide but still haven’t found the right face to play the part. It is so difficult because this actor has

to be convincing as someone who goes through a complete turnaround in his life. I have to go ahead in a zero-compromise mode here.”

Another strong reason behind casting a correct face and physical appearance is the fact that Buddha is being pitched for an international market. This

means that the actor, whether new or established, is required to have a pan-universal appeal.

“While this is truly a major reason, I also feel that the team of Buddha has a responsibility to take care of for several other nations as well”,

continues Gowariker, “There are millions in this world who practice Buddhism; whether it is Japanese, Koreans, Vietnamese and others. When they see our film,

they should be able to relate to the actor and say that this is their Buddha. I should be accurate enough in my presentation so that there is a sense of

reverence that comes in for a world-known personality like Buddha.”

All of this means that while the search continues for the right face and personality, Ashutosh Gowariker may well move to some other film in the interim. His

Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Se is up for release and post that, it would be time for Gowariker to zero on another subject and begin work on it.

“Frankly, I haven’t closed on anything as of now”, he brings on a smile here, “All that is occupying my mind currently is Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Se.

There are just a few more weeks to go and we are going full steam ahead in pumping up the promotion further and bringing the film to the audience.”

A period thriller, this Abhishek Bachchan-Deepika Padukone starrer is based on the book ‘DO and DIE: The Chittagong Uprising 1930-34′ by Manini Chatterjee.

Also starring Sikandar Kher and Vishakha Singh, Khelein Hum… has music by Sohail Sen and releases all over on 3rd December.

Karen Owen Powerpoint Presentation

Karen Owen Powerpoint Presentation, When Duke University graduate Karen Owen first compiled her ”unofficial senior thesis,” which stood code for a 42-slide PowerPoint and accompanying paper detailing her intimate activities with many of the University’s athletes, she supposedly thought it would never leave the classroom doors. Little did she know that emailing the presentation to a few close friends as a joke would result in her list going viral, and her being dragged into the middle of a full-blown media  scandal. Since it hit the Internet, the PowerPoint, including the full names of the men listed, has been published for the entire world to see. The 13 men included in the thesis did not exactly find this joke funny, to say the least, nor did Duke University.

Though the extent of the resulting consequences are not yet clear, the embaressment felt by everyone involved will linger long after the presentation has been pulled from the random websites that published it. It seems like everyone has something to say about this incident- Duke is angry; the parents are angry; the guys involved are angry; the guys who were left out are probably angry- but what can our children learn from this very public mistake?

I believe that this is an opportunity to teach our children something we often assume that they already know : the importance of privacy. Just as important as our own privacy is the privacy of others, which is something that Danielle Owen completely disregarded when choosing to share her PowerPoint with even her closest friends. The Internet is a very powerful thing, and we need to make sure children both know and understand this. If a young, intelligent woman studying at a top university can underestimate the power of the Internet, it isn’t so far fetched to believe that your son or daughter could too.

At an inspiring and solemn graduation ceremony befitting the University of London, Mr. Yash Chopra was awarded an honorary higher doctoral degree, a DLit, a Doctor of Letters honoris causa, for having made an outstanding contribution to the field of cinema in his six decades of work in the Hindi film industry, by the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS).

The function held on Friday, 23rd July 2010, opened with an impressive procession, which included Heads of Departments, Senior Management and the Presidents of the Students’ Union, entering the Hall to a musical accompaniment. The Director and Principal of SOAS, Professor Paul Webley and The President of SOAS, Baroness Helena Kennedy QC, welcomed the graduates and their guests. One of the highlight of the ceremony was the Presentation of an honorary doctorate to Mr. Yash Chopra. Professor Rachel Dwyer, the public orator, read a citation in tribute to Mr. Chopra and the President, Baroness Helena Kennedy QC, presented the degree.

Mr. Yash Chopra’s career and his work was compared with the greats of the Indian film industry. Professor Dwyer said that his films use a melodramatic form to show emotions at their deepest and rawest and that the dialogues and the song lyrics of Yash Chopra’s films are remembered and recited almost as mantras, as they describe things that are hard to say, using language, imagery and music in a perfect balance. She pointed out that Yash Chopra continues to innovate with every film he makes and remains young at heart, always interested in how people think, feel and behave.

Mr. Yash Chopra’s love of London and his connections with SOAS, one of the first universities to offer a course in mainstream Indian cinema, began in 1992. Professor Dwyer further said the graduates should be inspired by Mr. Yash Chopra’s success, learn his dedication, hard work, focus and his ways of rising above failure, saying that his films have brightened the lives of people from the poorest to the richest, from heads of states to humble people. He has been honoured by royalty, presidents and prime ministers and this DLit was a mark of the esteem in which the academic community of professors and students holds him.

Mr. Chopra in his response said, “I am humbled by this honour and would like to thank SOAS for this recognition. My filmmaking has always been from the heart and I would like to pass on this same message to students all over the world”.

Mr. Yash Chopra has previously been conferred with an Honorary Doctorate by The Leeds Metropolitan University, UK in 2007, The Punjab University, Chandigarh, India, in 2008 and The Guru Nanak University, Amritsar, India, in 2004, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to Indian cinema.

Package handling jobs are the most readily available jobs with UPS. Driver jobs are a more coveted and hard to get position.
