PPP’s core committee resolves policy shift

ISLAMABAD: The shift in the government’s policy is of ‘mandatory importance’ to provide people with relief, so was decided amid the core committee meeting of PPP that met here at Aiwan-e-Sadr on Wednesday, reports TrendPK.
The meeting was jointly presided over by President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani.
Spokesman to President House, Farhatullah Babar confirmed to media what sources had claimed earlier that the core committee agreed to substantial shift in policy of the PPP-led government to provide masses with relief.
The meeting also resolved continuation of reconciliatory strategy, taking along all coalition partners towards resolution of core issues in order to address the prevailing challenges being faced by Pakistan and the nation alike.
The attendees, by the conclusion of meeting, reposed full confidence in the joint leadership of President Zardari and PM Gilani. TrendPK

ISLAMABAD: Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has been made as the head of the Zardari tribe, TrendPK reported on Friday.

President Zardari, PM Gilani Exchange views on Balochistan govt
ISLAMABAD, trendpk: Prime Minister Syed Yusaf Raza Gilani called on President Asif Ali Zardari at the Aiwan-e-Sadr on Tuesday and discussed prevailing political situation in the country.
According to sources, they also discussed the reservations of MQM besides relations with coalition partners.
They discussed the recent visit of Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao to Pakistan and the President’s forthcoming visit to Turkey, the spokesman for the President House said.
They also exchange views on the rumors of change of Balochistan government.
Eid ul Azha being celebrated across Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Eid ul Azha is being celebrated with religious zeal and fervor across the country today.
Eid prayers were offered at eidgahs, mosques, imambargahs and open grounds.
In the early hours of the day, Muslims thronged mosques, imambargahs and open spaces for Eid prayers. After Eid prayers, special prayers were offered for Allah’s blessings, peace for mankind, solidarity among the Muslim Umma and prosperty of the homeland.
The largest congregation of Eid prayer was held at Faisal Mosque in Islamabad where politicians, diplomats and citizens offered Eid prayers.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani offered Eid prayers at the President House and Prime Minister House respectively.
In Karachi the largest Eid prayer congregation was held in Bag-e-Jinnah where Governor Dr. Ishrat ul Ebad
Rehman Malik, Mirza Called at Presidency over Karachi Situation
ISLAMABAD, News Trends: President Asif Ali Zardari has called Federal Interior Minister Rehman A Malik and Sindh Home Minister Zulfiqar Mirza at the Presidency to mull over the exacerbating situation in Karachi.

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari said on Thursday that construction of controversial dams could damage the unity of the country, adding that the energy crisis could be overcome by building small dams.
He chaired a meeting of the projects of water and power at the President House, and asked authorities to look at the projects of power plants at the local level.
President Zardari was of the view that local and foreign investors should be included in local level projects.

ISLAMABAD: Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer called on President Asif Ali Zardari at Aiwan-e-Sadr on Wednesday.
The current flood situation, relief and rehabilitation efforts in south Punjab were discussed in the meeting.
According to a statement issued by the President House, Governor Taseer briefed the President about the provision of health facilities to flood-ravaged families in south Punjab.

Geo’s transmission blocked on shoe hurling news at Zardari
KARACHI: The transmission of Geo News has been blocked overnight in various parts of country after it aired news regarding hurling of shoe at President Zardari during his party address in Birmingham, Geo News reported cable operators sources as saying.
Meanwhile, many offices of cable operators in Karachi have been set ablaze by angry activists of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).
Some of PPP’s leaders and government officials have issued threats and warnings to cable operators across country against continuation of Geo News transmission, pressurizing them to shut Geo News transmission but most cable operators refused to do so, sources said.
However, a private company namely World Call and another one by the name KMPC blocked Geo News signals as late as 2am in morning.
Following the blockage, a large number of people registered a massive protest against closure of Geo News transmission across country and rampage, arson and riots triggered by workers of PPP, sources said.
Meanwhile, many a Geo News’ workers have decided to register a protest against government in reaction against blockage of Geo News transmission over keeping people updated with facts and truths.
People and Geo News employees have resolved staging a massive string of demonstrations against stoppage of Geo News transmission and burning of Jang and Thenews newspapers by PPP workers, sources said.
The Demos will be staged outside President House, Prime Minister House, in front of Oman Embassy in Islamabad, outside CM, Governor Houses, Press Clubs and offices of cable operators all over country.
Most copies of Jang and Thenews newspapers have been burnt to ashes after robbing them of hawkers at gunpoint in Karachi.
A meeting of journalists, and Geo News employees has been convened in this connection, which will decide further course of action over this issue, journalists told Geo News.
