All business activities back to routine after Eid holidays

LAHORE: After Eid-ul-Adha’s holidays, all business activities have returned to the regular routine throughout the country on Monday.

All public and private schools, offices, markets and other institutes are open.

A vast majority of those who returned to their native homes to celebrate Eid with their families have returned to their respective cities.

Activities in Lahore, Karachi and all other prominent cities have re-started and traffic on the roads is as per normal. Trend Pk

Sindh Assembly passes resolutions against TI, fees rise

KARACHI: The Sindh Assembly on Thursday unanimously adopted two resolutions, condemning the recent Transparency International’s report on corruption and private schools’ fees increase.

Sharjil Inam Memon of the PPP tabled the first resolution against the Transparency International.

It was endorsed by all political parties, including MQM, PML-F and Muslim League-Q.

After passing the approval, female lawmakers chanted slogans against the TI and thumped their desks.

They alleged that some non-government organizations (NGOs) are working against the national security.

In addition, the provincial assembly passed a resolution against the huge rise in fees by private schools. Trend Pk

KTI, traders support mourning call

KARACHI: Karachi Transport Ittehad and traders have decided to support the mourning call issued by Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Wednesday against the target killings.

Condemning the deaths of innocent people, trade bodies said that business activities would remain closed on Wednesday against the violent attacks.

KTI has also decided to keep public transport off the roads today.

Meanwhile, differences have emerged among the management of private schools.

Directorate of Private Schools announced that schools would open on Wednesday, while the chairman of the Private School Association opposed the decision. SAMAA

World Teachers Day marked in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: A large number of students from private schools held a walk in the federal capital to mark World Teachers Day on Tuesday.

The walk was led by Dr. Warren Mellor, UNESCO’s Director and Representative in Pakistan.

Addressing the participants, Dr. Mellor said that the presence of better teachers, along with modern facilities is vital for the growth of education sector. SAMAA

KARACHI: All private schools will remain closed on Thursday in view of the precarious security situation in the metropolis.

This was announced in a joint statement by Private Schools Associations issued here on Wednesday.

Christie Todd, Christie Todd NJ: Chris Christie predicted to be “a big fat winner”. Republican Chris Christie has won the race for governor of New Jersey, unseating the rich, tax-raising Democrat Jon Corzine.New Jersey, has had 27 governors Republicans and 16 Democrats. Christie Todd Whitman, is the last Republican elected statewide. She left office in January 2001.

Chris Christie Corzine alluded to being too fat to retain the governorship. “That raised the dialogue and Christie made some hay with it (see a video below).

Christie supports tax credits for families sending their children to private schools, which supports state-funded vouchers to families trying to reach their children from failing school districts, supports merit pay for teachers and aims to increase the availability of charter schools. Christie supports civil unions and opposes same-sex marriage. He has promised not to raise taxes and reduce state tax revenue and business – although it has stated it will not be immediately feasible, and especially not feasible in the first year.
