A local Non Governmental Organization (NGO) organized a seminar ‘Women Rights Awareness’ in Badin Gymkhana today. Women from across the district, including rural areas, participated in the seminar.

The speakers of seminar said that many laws on women rights had been made in the country but none of them is being followed.

The women participants of the seminar presented many suggestions for the solution of their problems and demanded for the implementation of the existing laws on women rights. Trend Pk

JEDDAH: Haj proceedings are nearing the end today, but Pakistani Hajis’ problems continue to multiply amid the Manasik-e-Haj (Haj rituals).

According to details, many Pakistani Hajis are deprived of tents in Mina and they passed the whole day yesterday under open skies in the heat. They tried to contact Pakistani officials, but failed to get through to any concerned person.

A vast majority of Pakistani Hajis did not get any transport facility from the concerned authorities; finding no other way most of them traveled on foot from Mecca to Mina.

Pakistani Hajis were already troubled by costly residences situated far away from the Haram (Mecca). The lack of other facilities multiplied their problems further.

Singapore Air to change oil-stained A380 engines

SINGAPORE/SYDNEY:Singapore Airlines will replace engines on three of its Airbus A380 planes after finding oil stains on them, almost a week after Australian rival Qantas grounded its A380 fleet due to an engine failure.

Qantas’ six A380s have been grounded since Thursday, when a Rolls-Royce engine partly disintegrated mid-flight, forcing the fully laden Airbus to make an emergency landing in the biggest incident to date for the world’s largest passenger jet.

Investigations into that incident have focused on oil leaks inside the Rolls-Royce Trent 900 engines, the same model used to power Singapore Airlines’ and German Lufthansa’s A380 fleet.

But Singapore Airlines stressed the problems on three of its 11 A380s were precautionary and unrelated as the oil stains were different from the oil leakage in the Qantas turbines.

CJP urges Parliament to review reservations over judges appointment

Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said that he hopes the Parliament will review the problems and concerns of judiciary about new system of judges appointment.

Addressing the first meeting of the judicial commission in the Supreme Court, the CJP said that new system of judges appointment is pending in SC as well as in Parliament. He said that this responsibility of judges appointment would be fulfilled keeping in view all the norms of justice and collective conscience. He said that 17-member heard the 18th Amendment case for four months and announced the decision on the basis of collective wisdom.

The CJP said that it was the first time a number of judges were gathered under one roof. And the nation has pinned high hopes with us that how we will fulfill our responsibility, he added. He said that judges are here due to 18th Amendment and SC verdict, and we will try our best to introduce better judicial system. Chief justices of all high courts and federal shariah court, federal law minister and attorney general attended the meeting of judicial commission while Justice Mian Shakirullah Jan could not attend the meeting.

ICC not against Pakistan, says former president

DUBAI: A former president of the International Cricket Council blamed Pakistan cricket authorities for the state of the game in the country and denied the ICC was picking on Pakistan.

“ICC is not against Pakistan, it’s Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) which is against their cricket and has not sorted out their problems, forcing the ICC to take the matters in its hands,” Pakistani Ehsan Mani told AFP.
