MQM to hold public meeting in Lahore: Altaf
LAHORE: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain today announced his party’s plan to hold a public meeting in Lahore and directed his activists to commence preparations.
In a telephonic address to party’s Punjab office bearers, AMPSO workers and students of Punjab University, Hussain said that despite leveling various allegations against him, Altaf’s followers are still present in Punjab.

PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif has said that his views about the interests of Pakistan makes some quarters against him.
Addressing a public meeting in Skardu on Wednesday, Nawaz said he would not back the imposition of Reformed General Sales Tax (RGST) till end of corruption from the country.
He said he does not believe in political statements and would serve the Gilgit-Baltistan region practically.
PML-N would build five model villages for the flood victims of Gilgit-Baltistan region, he added.
Musharraf Says ‘Will Hold Public Meetings in Rivals Areas’
MANCHESTER: Former president Pervez Musharraf has said that he not afraid of anyone and that he will hold public meetings in the areas of ‘rivals’.
Addressing a public meeting here on Saturday, the retired general said the Lal Masjid people had created a state within a state and that he had tried to bring the administration of the mosque to mend their ways but in vain.
He said All Pakistan Muslim League will soon be dominating all others.
Pervez Musharraf appealed to the people present there to strengthen his party by joining it. He said he will serve the nation with all honesty.

LONDON: In his first public meeting in Birmingham after announcing the creation of his All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) party, former president Pervez Musharraf called former prime minister Nawaz Sharif ‘brainless,’ and the PML-N a family party.
He said that the ex-prime minister lost power twice as he lacked intellect.
Noting that Nawaz had failed to deliver during his previous two terms as the country’s premier, Musharraf said that the PML-N chief would ruin Pakistan if he became Prime Minister for a third term, The Nation reported.
He also revealed that the joint communiqué‚ drafted following the then Indian premier Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s visit to Lahore on Nawaz’s invitation, did not carry a word about Kashmir.

Three more die in Karachi violence
KARACHI: The fresh wave of targeted killings that began Friday night in Karachi has become severe, as three more people have been killed in separate incidents of firing.
The death toll from violent incidents has mounted to 9 while 10 people have sustained injuries.
According to police, two men were shot dead by unknown armed assailants when they attacked a state agency in Khuda Ki Bast, Surjani Town. Enraged people set on fire a bus which led to closure of shops and businesses in the area.
Intermittent firing continues in the area.
In another incident, one man was killed and two injured by armed men.

According to Met office, like other parts of country, monsoon also hit Karachi and the light rain is expected in Karachi and adjoining areas in next 12 hours.
MQM claims ‘ANP backed land mafia behind Karachi violence’
KARACHI: Central Leader of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Dr. Farooq Sattar Saturday called for prompt and strict action against ‘land mafia, drug mafia and arms mafia’ to ensure peace in the metropolitan city.
At a press conference called in emergency, the MQM leader flanked by members of MQM Rabitta Committee Raza Haroon, Nasreen Jalil and Wasay Jalil alleged that Awami National Party (ANP) continued to function as a political party until it was led by Bacha Khan but ‘now the sole objective of the party is to patronize land mafia, drug mafia and an armed group’.
“It was ANP’s armed terrorists who attacked MQM’s office, killing one of our worker while (some) other party members who were seriously injured are still under treatment at a hospital,” he alleged.
Dr. Farooq Sattar said ”land grabbers” are challenging the writ of the government and called for steps to put a strict check on the same.
Rehman Malik turning blind eye to Karachi killings: Rana
LAHORE: Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah Saturday said Rehman Malik is fond of highlighting even minor incidents happening in Punjab but at the same turns a blind eye to the targeted killings in Karachi.
Addressing a public meeting of Pakistan Muslim League-N’s candidate Azhar Qayum Nahira and later talking to media men, Rana Sanaullah said Rehman Malik keeps criticizing Punjab government, contributing further to the problems but becomes inactive when it comes to intelligence sharing.
He said the criticism against the concrete steps being taken by Punjab government to deal with terrorism is uncalled for and that the people will not be deceived by such tactics.

Mukhtar says UN report is incomplete
GUJRAT: Federal Defense Minister Ahmed Mukhtar said Sunday that the UN commission report on the assassination of Benazir Bhutto was still incomplete.
“The Fact Finding Mission constituted by the Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani will finalize its report in eight days, which will pave the way for arrest of real culprits,” he told newsmen in Gujrat. He said exposing the conspiracy of Bhutto’s slaying was essential.
The federal minister further said world powers would not let us reach a consensus on Kalabagh Dam. The load-shedding duration would decline in three to four years, he said, but added it would not completely end.
To a question, he said that those who had tasted defeat in the last general election were now making a fuss about creation of new provinces.
