Niu Shooting, The Northern Illinois University police are investigating a shooting which injured one student early Friday at the DeKalb campus, the university said.

The shooting appears to be an “isolated incident between two individuals,” according to the university’s Web site. A student was injured and taken to Kishwaukee Community Hospital for treatment, the Web site said. It was not immediately known in what condition the student was.

Police have one person in custody, the Web site said.
DeKalb police confirmed a person was in custody but would not give further details.
Public Safety officials are advising students to take extra precaution and to call NIU Public Safety at (815) 753-1212 if they see anything unusual.
The campus remains open and classes will be held as usual, the university’s Web site said.
Last week marked the second-year anniversary of a shooting rampage at the university that left five students dead. Former NIU student Steven Kazmierczak opened fire, killing five students and injuring 12 others before taking his own life. The five students killed were Gayle Dubowski, Catalina Garcia, Julianna Gehant, Ryanne Mace and Daniel Parmenter.
