LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Saturday urged the Ulema (religious leaders) to save the country, TrendPK reported on Saturday.
While addressing a Seerat-un-Nabi conference here to commemorate the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), the Punjab CM said that hatred has destroyed the country and now religion can play part to save it.
He said that begging from outsiders is against the Islamic teachings.
The minister said that there was no leader in the entire history who helped the spread of Islam and the concept of equity around the world other than the Prophet (PBUH).

LAHORE: Government and opposition lawmakers in Punjab Assembly traded fire on Friday against each other over the deaths of dozens of people due to contaminated drugs.
Opposition leader in Punjab Assembly Raja Riaz asked Shahbaz Sharif to step down as the chief minister due to the fiasco.
He said Khadim-e-Ala has become Qatil-e-Ala.
Disregarding the demand, Punjab’s Law Minister Rana Sanaullah said opposition has nothing substantial to offer. He said Chief Minister Sharif has no time to listen to junk talk.
Although precious lives are being wasted due to the spurious drugs, ruling and opposition leaders are wasting no opportunity to humble each other.
Speaking to newsmen after the Punjab Assembly session, Rana Sanaullah said his party would welcome any positive proposal by the opposition parties. But he said the chief minister has no time to hear the rubbish talk. TrendPK

LAHORE: In not an unprecedented chaotic day in the Punjab Assembly, Leader of Opposition Raja Riaz Ahmed Tuesday said Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif is seemed to have signed a contract to kill innocent people.
Launching again a scathing attack against the CM Sharif, who calls himself Khadim-e-Aala (Chief Servant), Riaz termed the Chief Minister as Qatil-e-Aala (Chief Assassin).
Talking to a battery of reports outside the Punjab Assembly, the PPP leader bristled, “We, in strong words, condemn the invectives employed against the MPAs,” adding the CM does not show up at the assembly and instead, sends such ministers who uses inappropriate dictions against the other ministers.
Riaz maintained the province saw two massive scandals in education and health sectors and it is the CM Sharif who possesses the concerned two ministries.
‘Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) remained unstoppable vis-à-vis dictators like Ziaul Haq and Pervez Musharraf; what to speak of Shahbaz Sharif,’ he asserted adding Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah will have to apologize at all costs.
Rana Sana, reacting to the situation, said the deaths did not take place owing to the fact that there was no health minister.
Commenting on former Federal Law Minister Babar Awan’s Umrah visit, the provincial law minister said the Satan has commenced protesting on his (Awan’s) Umrah, saying, “I (Satan) would be left alone if he (Awan) was pardoned.”
The PA session began two hours late, but, was soon adjourned till Friday morning on uncontrollable commotion over Rana Sana’s comments. TrendPK

LAHORE: Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah Thursday said the legislation in connection with the fake medicines will be undertaken as and when Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif returns home after his Germany visit.
Replying to a question over the proposed bill banning musical concerts at educational institutions in the province, the law minister said the objectionable concerts alone have been restricted under the proposed bill.
Standing outside the Punjab Assembly in front of media persons, Rana said the CM Sharif is giving attention to the Health Department, adding no one can be punished over the issue relating the medicine reaction until the culpability is determined. TrendPK

Punjab drug reaction: Death toll surges to 72

LAHORE: The overall death toll spurred by the reaction of heart medicines at Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) surged to 72, TrendPK reports Wednesday.
Meantime, Punjab Health Department issued notification regarding the post mortem of the people killed by drug reaction.
The recent death was of a heart patient Bilqis Begum, 50, a resident of Lahore area of Sandah. Her condition worsened this morning at Mayo Hospital.
The police and district administration are going to each doorstep in entire province to collect back the PIC-offered medicines on directives given by Punjab government. Also, the suspicious medicines are being captured from markets as well.
A report on the medicines recovered thus far has been sent to the commissioner.
The provincial government announced recompense money for the bereaved families and sent abroad the medicine samples.
The steering committee set up to probe the issue has termed it a calamity. The committee chairman Khawaja Salman Rafiq said the provincial government was forced to buy medicines from the companies listed by federal government.
He said the plan is being formulated for future purchase of the medicines, adding the suspicious have been taken back from 9,000 patients. TrendPK
Drug deaths: Six more die, overall toll at 70

LAHORE: At least six more people died of recent monster in the form of medicine reaction, raising the overall death toll to 70 in Punjab with government machinery fully charged against the responsible for the menace, as cases have been launched against five manufacturing companies, TrendPK reports Wednesday.
While visiting the patients at Jinnah Hospital here yesterday, Punjab Chief Minister Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif said that measures are being taken on emergency basis to bring the situation under control triggered by reaction of the medicines of the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC).
He said that Medical Superintendent of Services Hospital had been made OSD due to poor performance.
The CM Sharif noted the matter was being thoroughly probed and stern action would be taken in the light of inquiry against anyone found guilty of negligence or dereliction. He was talking to media persons after inquiring about the health of the patients affected by the reaction of PIC medicines at Jinnah Hospital here on Tuesday.
The case for drug-spurred deaths has been registered against the unidentified miscreants. Meantime, a local court handed owners of three medicine-manufacturing companies to Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on three-day physical remand.
However, Pakistan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Associations Chairman Dr. Riaz Ahmed held the PIC responsible for the deaths. TrendPK
Gas restored to Punjab industries after a month

LAHORE: The gas supply has been restored this morning to the industries of Punjab after a disruption hiatus of one month, TrendPK reports Monday.
The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) issued a notification of two-day supply in a week. According to the notification, Punjab industries have been divided in four zones.
In first phase, industries of Lahore and Sahiwal have been restored gas supply at 6AM this morning. Afterwards, Faisalabad and Sargodha zones will receive gas for two days.
Third zone incorporates Sheikhupura and suburbs of Lahore; while the industries of Islamabad, Gujranwala, Multan and Bahawalpur have been placed in fourth zone. TrendPK
Two-day gas supply for Punjab’s industries announced

ISLAMABAD: The government has resumed the supply of gas to Punjab’s industries for two days a week.
The Sui Northern Gas Company (SNGC) has issued a notification in this regard.
It is pertinent to mention here that Petroleum Minister Dr. Asim had announced that Punjab’s industrial units would get 3-day gas supply in a week.
Despite his announcement at a press conference this week, the SNGC has resumed the supply for two days only.
According to the announcement, Punjab’s industries have been divided into four zones. On first two days of the week, Lahore and Sahiwal zones will get gas supply. Faisalabad and Sargodha regions will be supplied gas for the next two days. Industries of Sheikhupara and other areas will get gas supply during the next days.
Finally, Islamabad, Bahawal and Multan regions will get the gas.
Industrialists have expressed their dismay at the plan.
Govt decides to resume gas supply for Punjab industries

LAHORE: After a one-month suspension, the Punjab government has decided to restore the CNG gas supply to industries of the province from Monday, TrendPK reports.
The textile industry was facing ruination of business, with thousands of jobless daily wagers protesting against the government move which made it hard for them to arrange two-time meal.
Authorities said the gas supply would be resumed from Monday, creating happy ripples among more than 10 million labourers associated with textile and other industries.

LAHORE: Lahore, Murre and Islamabad received light rain, which led to an increase in ongoing spell of cold.
According to the Meteorological Department, 4mm rain was recorded at Rawlakot and 2mm at Muzaffarabad in Azad Kashmir.
The Met office said light rainfall increased the current spell of cold in Lahore, Murree and Islamabad.
More rain is likely in some parts of Khyber Pakhutnkhwa, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala and northeastern parts of Punjab. TrendPK
